What do you guys think the population was of a Lion Turtle City? There isn't much to go on, aside from (in the case of the Fire Lion Turtle) the evidence that there were a few wealth classes (those with food, weapons, and power, then those without).

Idk, it just seems like humanity would be safer being able to catch fish off the back of their patron beast than venturing out into the jungle. I can't imagine the lion turtles would have too much trouble moving around in the water, considering how much the AtLA lion turtle moved around.
I am thinking that people living within the cities needed the lion turtles because that was where they got their bending ability from, so if they simply disappeared, the people in the cities wouldn't be able to bend much anymore.
they may not have spent too much time in the seas because of all the other resources humanity need, to build houses, clothes, weapons, etc.
I got the idea in my head that the water lion turtles drifted with the global currents, spaced out enough so they don't have to interract (as they are known to be solitary creatures). I've been trying to figure out why the south pole was uninhabited until the water tribes (that were all in the north at one point) split. I've got an explanation worked out in my fanon, but I still wonder what the actual reason might be.
As L33N4TRON said, the hunting parties were fairly small. This indicates that the populations could have been as low as 100, which really isn't very many. However, when Wan visited the Air Turtle, i got the impression that it wasn't the most populated of turtles due to the amount of garden/meditation space, the spacing between the stick huts, etc. - this could be more evidence to suggest populations could have been fairly small
Considering the size of the cities, I doubt it was as low as 100. Like I said, 1000 per turtle is a pretty good bet, especially since it seems the inhabitants seemed to be very conservative about food rations.
but remember the LT aang met? he was able to traverse the whole "island" in like, under a minute.
how cool would it be if that LT was revisited and the ruins of a city were exposed under all the overgrowth?
but he wasn't using that airbending run thing. although come to think of it, 1000 isn't that many people, especially for a city, and those cities were pretty cramped.
wonder how long that living on the lion turtle thing went on... People would have become pretty inbred if it went on for 10,000 years. hell, speciation could even take place. if raava's goal during wan's HC was to separate humans and spirits, then what was her goal in the one before that? the whole spirit wilds and LT thing seemed pretty chaotic to me... This raava and vaatu and darkness and light and peace and peace and chaos thing is confusing. i wish bryke would explain it better.
1,000 seems reasonable, especially considering that there were class systems in place. I'm sure the wealthier inhabitants were able to grow their own food and/or had domestic animals to live off of. The hunters probably helped feed the lower class individuals.
@Intelligence4
THAT WOULD BE SO AMAZING!!! GAH! I love Archaeology and History in general, so being able to come across ruins just gets me super excited ^.^
Around 3,000.
