Zuko in The Last Airbender video game
Zuko in the pilot episode
Zuko is a firebender and the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation. He received the scar on his left eye from his father, Fire Lord Ozai, after speaking out against a general's plan in the Fire Lord's war room. Deeming his actions to be a sign of disrespect, Ozai challenged Zuko to an Agni Kai. Zuko, however, refused to fight his father and begged for forgiveness. His father considered this an act of weakness and scarred Zuko to "teach him a lesson". Zuko was banished from the Fire Nation and sent to capture the Avatar; only when he had successfully completed his mission would he be allowed to return to the Fire Nation and redeem himself.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Northern Water Tribe
Zuko attacked the Northern Water Tribe, with the men of his ship, laying siege to the city. He ordered them to capture the Avatar without harming him. Although Aang, Katara, Sokka, and the waterbenders managed to fend off his firebenders, the prince was able to capture Katara as he departed and severely injured Master Wei. Zuko proceeded to order his men back to the ship.
Zuko was later captured by the Fire Nation jailer and imprisoned as soon as they docked at a Fire Nation controlled village in the Earth Kingdom along with Katara. When Aang and Sokka came to rescue Katara, they accidentally freed Zuko as well, who left them to fight the jailer, returning to take back his ship.
Zuko proceeded to journey onward on his ship. Knowing that Aang and his friends were in Omashu, Zuko attacked the metropolis.
After defeating King Bumi's advisor, Aang and his friends proceeded to flee Omashu when Zuko caught up to them. His attempt to capture them proved unsuccessful, however, when Haru earthbent a wall between them.
Picking up the fallen advisor, Zuko demanded to know where the other side of the passage led. However, the advisor merely smiled before passing out; Zuko looked up to see a huge shadow looming over him, machine noises issuing from it. He attempted in vain to firebend at it, only for the machine to move forward undamaged.
Later, Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Haru found Zuko isolated inside the Maker's fortress. Aang suggested they help Zuko, saying they could not just abandon him. Despite objections from Sokka and Zuko himself, Aang told Haru to earthbend a platform to help Zuko navigate the stream between them. However, Zuko attacked the group, causing Haru to drop the platform; the prince nearly plunged into the stream until Aang caught him. Zuko, refusing help from the Avatar, released himself from Aang's grip and fell into the stream before being swept down a waterfall.
Zuko eventually crawled out of the stream, which led him to the exterior of the fortress. Grumbling angrily, Zuko began to walk away.
Back in Omashu
Zuko was in Omashu with Uncle Iroh when he saw Aang and Katara walking through the city, now being on the run himself after being betrayed by his father; who now desired to imprison him and Iroh.
He attacked Aang, but discovered that his sister, Azula, and her friends, Mai and Ty Lee, were present as well. Iroh informed Zuko that he could not win due to the overwhelming number of enemies, leading them to flee the scene when Aang used his airbending when being attacked to create a dust cloud.
Living in Ba Sing Se
Zuko and Iroh arrived at the city of Ba Sing Se, where they tried to lead normal lives as refugees. There, Iroh found a job for him and Zuko working at a tea shop. Sometime past until Zuko saw Katara and ran after her. When he did not find her, he firebent in a rage. A Dai Li agent observed that he was a firebender. Knowing the agent had this information, Iroh and Zuko chased after him to Lake Laogai.
After chasing him throughout the underground headquarters of the Dai Li, Zuko and Iroh found the agent in a room also containing Appa in chains. Iroh told the agent that he and Zuko simply wanted to live a peaceful life in Ba Sing Se. The agent stated that if he let them go, Long Feng, leader of the Dai Li, would find out that he betrayed the Dai Li. He explained the only way for Zuko and Iroh to be released was to fight.
Zuko and Iroh defeated the agent, leaving them alone with Appa. Iroh persuaded Zuko to liberate Appa with the prince stating that "it [didn't] feel right" to release Appa.
After the Fire Nation drill had been sabotaged by the team, Zuko was told by Azula, who was controlling the drill, to follow her, and the two proceeded to battle Aang and Katara atop of the drill. However, Zuko was the first to be defeated, followed by Azula, and they could only look on as Aang delivered the final blow to the hull, destroying the drill. He was later dragged out of the wreckage of the machine by his sister, who told him they still had work to do.
Everything is the same as the PS2 version except that, instead of going to Lake Laogai, Zuko and Iroh were being chased by the Rough Rhinos and had to make their way through an obstacle. Zuko used firebending to burn bushes and trees and skilfully dodge rocks and cracks in the path. Once they made it through all of the obstacles, they picked up speed and lost their pursuers.
Into the Inferno
Conquering Ba Sing Se and reform
After Zuko helped Azula defeat Aang and conquer Ba Sing Se, they returned home to the Fire Nation. There, Zuko began to regret what he had done and decided to join up with Aang to defeat his father, Ozai.
During the Day of Black Sun, Zuko hid with his father though later left him when they were invaded by Aang and his friends. He found Aang and Toph battling Azula, stepping in to prevent Azula from defeating Aang for a second time. He left with Team Avatar, therefore becoming a member of the team and Aang's firebending teacher.
The Boiling Rock
Zuko accompanied Sokka to the Boiling Rock, a high-security Fire Nation prison, where Sokka planned to rescue his father, who was captured during the invasion on the Day of Black Sun. They entered the prison where, after passing through a few rooms and battling many soldiers, they found Hakoda and, to Sokka's surprise, Suki. They released the two from their cells where they proceeded toward the gondola, which would transport them to the outer part of the Boiling Rock.
Once they boarded the gondola, Azula and Ty Lee appeared, and began dueling Zuko and Sokka atop the gondola while Suki and Hakoda remained safely sheltered within the vehicle.
Soldiers began severing the gondola lines, halting their progression. Azula and Ty Lee hastily leaped onto another gondola. Mai intervened, defeating the soldiers that were cutting the line and the vehicle began to move again. Having successfully escaped the prison, Zuko, Sokka, Hakoda, and Suki ventured to the Western Air Temple where the rest of the team was currently residing.
Chamber of the Elements
Zuko and the others took refuge at the Western Air Temple. Struggling to teach Aang firebending, the duo left to search for the Chamber of the Elements, as it was rumored to assist in firebending training.
After roaming around and avoiding traps for a while, they eventually found it. There, Zuko watched as Aang spoke to Avatar Roku, who told him that his training was complete and that he was ready to face Fire Lord Ozai.
They left the Chamber of the Elements only to find Fire Nation soldiers attacking the temple. Though many soldiers were present, Zuko and Aang managed to fight them all. They eventually escaped on Appa to find the others and abandon the temple.
Into the Inferno
With the arrival of Sozin's Comet, Ozai carried out his plan to burn down the Earth Kingdom and build a new world from the ashes of the old. Meanwhile, Zuko and Katara faced Azula, who had been proclaimed Fire Lord since Ozai was crowned Phoenix King.
During the Agni Kai between the Fire Nation prince and princess, Azula caught Katara off-guard and fired a bolt of lightning at her, as opposed to her original target, Zuko. However, Zuko leapt in front of Katara, shielding her from the attack and taking the bolt himself, severely injuring himself in the process.
Meanwhile, Aang stripped Ozai of his firebending power, thus ending the War; Ozai was subsequently imprisoned.
Zuko and Mai met up with Aang and Katara. Zuko stated that he and Mai were going to build their relationships with the other nations. He asked Aang what his plans were, to which Aang replied that he was not sure, although "things [were] definitely looking up".
Everything is more or less the same as the PS2 version, though there are some notable differences:
- Zuko only joins the team at the Western Air Temple after saving and assisting Sokka in defeating Combustion Man with his firebending.
- Zuko takes Aang to find the Fire Sages when he discovers he is unable to bend rather than finding the Chamber of Elements.
- Zuko still assists Katara in fighting Azula but fights her at the Fire Nation Capital instead.
- Zuko has the ability to create a long wall of fire, a technique which is enhanced during his battle against Azula.
- Zuko appeared in the first Avatar: The Last Airbender video game, only playing a minor role, as opposed to the series. He also appeared in the two other video games as a playable character.
