The Zhang are an Earth Kingdom tribe that appeared in "The Great Divide".

The tribe are refugees of The War. They are heading away from the Fire Nation to the safety of Ba Sing Se. However, the route to the Earth Kingdom capital takes them through the largest canyon in the Four Nations, the Great Divide.

[edit] History

The Zhang tribe has long been conflicting with the Gan Jin tribe for over a hundred years. Tribe lore holds that their founder, Wei Jin, found the Gan Jin's leader Jin Wei dying from exhaustion, and though he offered to help, Jin Wei told him to take his Sacred Orb back to his tribe instead. However, when he arrived, he was accused of stealing the orb and thrown in prison for twenty years.

Years ago, the Fire Nation attacked this Earth Kingdom tribe, forcing them to flee their homeland. The Zhang are now refugees fleeing to the capital city of Ba Sing Se.

These two are complete opposites of each other. The Zhang adorn brown rags and condone uncleanliness. They are generally uncivilized. In general, they are very messy and unkempt too. This is due in part to their history as a society of hunters and outdoorsmen, though the more modern Zhang have taken interest in many industries.

Aang escorted the Zhang and the Gan Jin tribes across the Great Divide, and was able to bring peace between the two sides through a rather elaborate lie. He claimed that Wei Jin had not been imprisoned for twenty years as believed, but for only two minutes, in a game called "Redemption". And the orb was just a ball, and the sun setting and rising was just the goals in the game redemption..
