"The city is far too dangerous. Avatar Aang tasked us with keeping you safe while you mastered the four elements." |
— The White Lotus leader to Korra.[1] |
The White Lotus leader is a waterbender and the head of the same society as of 170 AG.[1]
History[]
Four years after the death of Avatar Aang, the White Lotus leader, along with two other members of the Order, visited the South Pole in search of his reincarnation. The group visited the home of Tonraq and Senna at their request, the couple believing their daughter, Korra, was the person they sought. The leader was initially skeptical, having previously investigated multiple claims in both Water Tribes, but he was proven false when Korra promptly demonstrated her earthbending, firebending, and waterbending abilities in front of the members of the Order.[1]
Over the next years, the leader oversaw Korra's training at the Southern Water Tribe compound. After the young Avatar had completed her earthbending and waterbending training, he introduced her to Master Yim who was supposed to serve as her firebending teacher. When Yim immediately outlined his extremely strict views on the proper forms of training, Korra raised her voice. The firebending master interjected that he would leave if she disagreed with his methods, causing the White Lotus leader to quickly intervene and declare on the Avatar's behalf that Yim's views were acceptable. He then nervously encouraged Korra, before quickly leaving the training field.[2]
Years later, the leader was present at Korra's final firebending test, and witnessed the young Avatar demonstrate her prowess in the art before the renowned organization and Katara, her waterbending master. Although he expressed concerns over her lack of restraint in firebending and ignorance of the spiritual side of being the Avatar, he deemed Korra a firebending master and told her that she was ready to commence her airbending training under Tenzin's tutelage.[1]
When the airbending master announced that he could not relocate to the Southern Water Tribe, the White Lotus leader, Tenzin, and Korra discussed the delay of the Avatar's training and their best course of action. When Korra suggested that she could return to Republic City with Tenzin, the White Lotus leader promptly objected, emphasizing that it was the Order's task to protect Korra while she mastered the four elements, and that Republic City was too dangerous for the young Avatar.[1]
