I never called you God, all I did was ask why it was so hard to make an addition for fan art in the licensing template, and then I continued saying that it isn't hard and I know this because I see the code for the template and can easily and quickly make it. Nowhere do I say that the image is a screenshot. In fact, I agreed it was not when I said 'that's why in the description field I wrote "(digitally produced from a screenshot of the show)".' I simply refused to add an appropriate image license tag to the imagebox because instead of asking, you went out of your way to make silly allegations (like owning rights over the image) and rant about how it wasn't a screenshot. That's not the most productive way to request improvements. As for the "berating," it was very much attuned with your over the top and "playing the victim" attitude. ― Thailog 22:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I have no need to play the victim, as you can clearly see in the license you keep tossing on those pictures it states in the first line, "This image is a screenshot" which is quite the opposite of what you claim. I am aware that the image license tag says that it is a screenshot, but like I explained to you just today, that's because no one updated the imagebox template with a suitable template for digital images. Joey, this probably has to do with the merger, the battle template we use appears to have been overwritten by the fanon one, I tried to see an older version of it, but it appears that those have been overwritter as well. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 20:38, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Joey! I'm back from my inactivity. I've noticed that the merge has happened, and I just have some concern. It seems that, now that the title "Fanon:" has been placed in front of all the pages in fanon, which has broken many of the links on the pages, and I was guessing this happened in the merging process. Well, I was wondering if you could somehow (if it's possible) get your bot to change it back to the original links, and then redirect the pages, such as "Tam Mee" to "Fanon:Tam Mee". I'm inexperienced in this type of things, so if it's not possible or too tedious, or if I'm just way too out of it, I understand. Vaznock - Talk 21:49, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

At Kyoshi Revolts Chapters, almost every link is messed up, as well as some screwed up quotes on some character pages, such as Azula (Kyoshi Revolts). Vaznock - Talk 13:29, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Yup, that's just cache. Because a link will turn either blue or red once it is created (the page is saved), if the linked pages were imported after the linking page then you get a redlink. Don't worry about those, all you have to do is purge the page, and I'll do some mass purging as soon as I get the images. Thanks! Joey aa 13:34, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

It should have done the majority of links when I did the massive XML change, of course the problem always is the fact images and categories use [[]] too and a bot change could mess them up. I don't think so, it's kind of technical. I imported and purged their pages, but the actual uploads were done by a Wikia tech whom had server side access resulting in them to be directly uploaded to the server. Hey Joeyaa, sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but you can offer some more advice for updating the main page at Foamipedia? I pretty new to Wiki so I know next to nothing to coding a proper main page. Andftw18 01:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

It's actually quite easy (once you do it a couple of times). See help:main page. The usual pattern of a main page is to use two columns (see the main page columns) which divide the page in two (one side being bigger ^left^), and with conventional use of bordered boxes full of the usual featured pages, media, poll, quote, site news, links to pages, and pictures to aid navigation. Try taking each component (listed above) and making them individually, and then putting them altogether. It may be the long way, but it sure will teach you how to do it in the future :) Good luck, and I'm open to questions. Joey aa 01:18, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Maybe it would be in the best interest of some of our user groups to have their own channel on Freenode. Perhaps a double-hash (##) beginning or a triple-hash that reads ###wikia-Avatar-SouthernDramaTribe (which is a little long, though). I think this choice would be especially helpful for the group I used in the example in order to halt further spamming of group members' user talk pages. [edit] Anonymous Edits

I apologize if this is not the correct place to put this or if it has been brought up before.

I've noticed an amount of vandalism is instigated by unregistered users; is there any possibility of disabling anonymous editting of the wiki? This practice has been implemented on a number of wikis I've seen and has cut down on the number of negative or otherwise poor edits, although it should be noted the wikis in question are smaller in scope than this one. At any rate, this is likely due to registration creating a barrier to entry, small as it is, and ensures an editor has some amount of interest vested in the project. On the other hand, this also prevents those anonymous users that do provide constructive edits from doing so.

As well, I've observed that editors that make negative contributions receive hardly a penalty except for a slap on the wrist telling them not to do so again under pain of temporary block. If the edits are merely poor in judgment then it's understandable, but someone that actively disrupts the wiki's efforts has made his intentions clear from the start and should be dealt with decisively.

Hey M10,

Luckily, we here are rather fortunate to receive the little vandalism we do get, which compared to the mass amounts from other wikis I've dealt with is petty. And to this day, I think our vandalism is usually dealt with rather quickly, before it causes any harm. We have a great team here watching over the wiki; administrators block when needed and everyone reverts any foul edit as they see. Our blocks are strategically planned so that if an edit by an anonymous user or other user could be "a test edit" as they may not understand how to use the wiki yet, they can not be punished if they really didn't mean any harm, and subsequent ones can result in blocks if they show their edits are bad-faith.

As a community and whole we haven't actually discussed disabling edits by anonymous contributors (or by user lacking emai-confirmed, another possibility,) but in my opinion and I guess the rest of the community agrees with me on, is that it would do more harm than good. Reduce editing, reduce adding new information, dramatically reduce the amount of grammar/spelling fixes, etc., and would cause to fewer users registering as they'd find it stupid. I've seen this type of MW-modification used elsewhere - but in my opinion this isn't a good place for it. However, you are free to flag it up with the rest of the community.

Actually, I'd like to point out that we have had this kind of discussion before, but nearly a year ago and when the wiki was a very different place. (I was just another new user back then.) The consensus at the time eventually was against implementing this kind of measure. I was a very minor participant in that discussion, but I agreed with the decision the others discussed and came to, and I still agree with it. Like Joey said, the wiki experiences far less vandalism than other wikis (Wikipedia, for instance, needs to employ a few bots to help), so I think we'd be annoying genuine, interested new users by implementing this kind of measure.
Your (M1O) second point is an interesting one. I'll agree that we are far less harsh than many wikis on vandalism. Where others immediately block, we warn. Where others block infinitely, we block for a week or two. However, my theory on this is that deliberate harsh treatment of such editors only encourages and baits them. If you merely acknowledge that you know that they are doing this, it is less inflammatory. Obviously, we will eventually deal with people that continue vandalising without end - and, as you say, "decisively". :) Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 09:25, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
