The 888th Avatar

In two days, it will be six years since the "The Boy in the Iceberg" aired on Nickelodeon. Six years later, the franchise is still alive, with a movie and a coming new mini-series. Meanwhile, Avatar Wiki has steadily become a stronger and more diverse site.

Diversity is a fact of life on this site. As the only known Avatar site that is almost completely editable by anyone with Internet access, there are people here from all over the world. Almost half of our traffic, and the majority of the administrators are not from the United States. Combined with the difficulty of interaction over the Internet, this means that misunderstandings can occur.

Because of this, it is very important that everyone gain an elementary understanding that people on this site will be different from one another. It is crucial that all interaction is as diplomatic as possible - a firm hand is required at times, but never an angry hand. If that can be achieved, Avatar Wiki will truly have a positive atmosphere.

48px-3287055.png Fanon?
Toph Lover

Are you interested in writing a fanon? But, are you not sure how? Well, continue reading this article to find out!

Creating Page:
First, go to the main fanon page. Up the top it will say Create a Page. Do not delete the word, Fanon: in the white box next to it and do not put a space after (a mistake I made) e.g. If your Fanon was called Toph's Story, it should look like this: Fanon:Toph's Story.

Decorating Page:
To make the page acceptable you will need an infobox (which can be found on the Fanon templates page), a relevant image for that infobox (I suggest uploading one, please license it though as it will be less work for Carloso), a summary of the fanon (longer is better, but not too long), and a part saying no chapters have been released (that part will be filled later with the template of your chapters). Add Author's Notes (basically, notes about how you feel about this fanon, and how well you hope for it to turn out).

Getting Your Fanon Known
Do not randomly spam pages with the link to your fanon, as it is considered annoying (again, another mistake I made); instead be creative! Create a blog, tweet about it or you may ask one of the users who have a popular blog post to advertise your fanon for you.

If you have any further questions I suggest contacting a fanon admin and/or checking out one of the following fanons as they are great examples; Eyes of Katara-Vulmen, Legend of Teru-Will94, Alone-Millenia2, Guardian-The Bos or Rise of an Avatar-Carloso

Dcasawang1

While David Fincher and the Cohen brothers are preparing to receive the Oscar, M. Night Shyamalan seems to expect only some Razzies. The Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies are awards given in recognition of the worst in film of the year. To honor the worst film productions of 2010, the nominations were announced on January 24 and the 31st ceremony is scheduled for February 26. “The Last Airbender” and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” are the movies with more nominations. The film directed by Shyamalan was nominated in the following categories:

  1. Worst Picture: TLA is the favourite to win in this category.
  2. Worst Supporting Actor: Jackson Rathbone (TLA and Twilight) and Dev Patel are nominated. I do not think they deserve it. Probably, George Lopez will win this one.
  3. Worst Supporting Actress: Nicola Peltz. She definitely did not make a bad job. Also, Cher is the favorite.
  4. Worst Screen Couple / Screen Ensemble: The entire cast of TLA. Okay, maybe they deserve this award.
  5. Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel: TLA is a strong candidate here, but Twilight is nominated too for this one.
  6. Worst Director: M. Night Shyamalan............
  7. Worst Screenplay: Written by M. Night Shyamalan. The screenplay was dreadful.
  8. Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3-D: TLA may win in this category too, although “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore” is also a candidate.

Will94

Hey there readers, instead of the usual boring introduction, I am just going to dive back in to the column, and review this issue's Undiscovered Fanon, The Kyoshi Warrior Chronicles. This series was created and is primarily written by AvatarHaiLi, and secondarily written by myself (self promotion you naughty :O).

Anyway, it all started with a blog post, detailing the ideas Mike and Brian had about "an elite group of female firebenders tracking the Avatar" (which of course evolved into Azula alongside Mai and Ty Lee). This idea was taken, and reproduced into the form of a Kyoshi Warrior fan fiction, detailing the events that the Kyoshi Warriors took part in between their meetings with Team Avatar.

The prologue to the series has been released, and details the creation of the Kyoshi Warriors, after the fall of the short and stumpy Chin the Conqueror. From here the first chapter of the series, "The Avatar, the Warrior and the Waterbender", will be released today! The first chapter in a two parter, retelling the time Team Avatar spent on Kyoshi Island, and the battle that ensued with Zuko and the Fire Navy.

The second part of this two part special, written by myself, will be released within the week, that is if I get my laptop back from being serviced in time (darn iPod touch restricting my creative expulsions)! That chapter, yet to be named, will have the first battle of Kyoshi Island dragged out into one chapter, but a little more epic. So definitely read the prologue and the first chapter if you haven't already, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Now the ratings will be done so on AvatarHaiLi's chapters only, to exclude the biased opinion of myself.

7/10 stars.

Coming soon to Avatar Wiki.

  • Ianbernard, for tirelessly keeping up his work in his very own Hawky Awards.
  • Dcasawang1 and Will94, for having the energy to create userboxes for every chapter.

48px-1025281.png Help guides: making good blog posts
The 888th Avatar

Blog posts are one of Avatar Wiki's most popular features. However, despite good ideas, many blog posts become an eyesore, or become an example of bad writing, and are sometimes summarily deleted. This guide gives a few tips to help yours avoid the admin axe.

  • Use a title that contains no strange symbols, and uses correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. A title that doesn't seem to be professional at all is very annoying on our main blog list.
  • Use a spell-checker. Seriously. Unless you're a veteran, do this. Just copy the text of your blog post to word-processing software on your computer (such as Microsoft Word), and run the spell-check over your blog post.
  • Tables are better than long lists. If your blog post contains a long list, put it in a table. Save your reader from endless scrolling. And endless misery.
  • Learn how to use paragraphs. Not really just for blog posts, in fact. For real life, too - this could be (one of the only) good lessons learnt from Avatar Wiki!
  • Add an image at the top right. (Not applicable to posts about serious matters such as policy.) Impressions count. Having an image at the top right tells the reader that you took this blog post seriously, and it also makes your blog post much more readable. Use an existing image that has already been uploaded.
  • Submit a column to The Ba Sing Se Times. As your column is then edited and checked by yours truly, you can get some insight into what "mistakes" you are making, so that you are wiser when you make your own blog post.
