Avatar Extras have long been a source of information regarding Avatar, and is considered canon by the wiki and several users. But is it really canon? In fact, it may not even be Bryke's doing.
Look at several points of information for this:
Note:Several of these points are paraphrased
1) From Avatar Extras: "Zuko was originally Katara's love interest." Look at that point of info, however, the creators spoke differently:
From the Sozin's Comet Interview:
Question: There were several allusions to Katara being Zuko's girlfriend throughout Season Three. Aside from Uncle Iroh, she seemed to be the first person to see the potential good in Zuko. Was there ever a spark between the two? Was there ever a point which you thought they would end up together?
Michael Dante DiMartino: Sorry to disappoint the "Zutara" fans out there, but we never intended for Zuko and Katara to get together. Maybe we're just sentimental, but we always had a soft spot in our hearts for "Kataang".
Bryan Konietzko: Zuko and Katara might have shared some sparks, but sometimes there are people along your "journey of love" who are there to teach you about yourself and what you really need, but don't necessarily end up being your partner. Come on, kids! "Zutara" never would have lasted! It was just dark and intriguing.
2) From Avatar Extras: "Aang had mastered three elements by this point."
From The Show: Toph says he isn't a master Earthbender yet. Okay, so they are off one number, BUT it's stated directly in the show. Do you think Bryke wouldn't know how many he mastered by this time? They probably wouldn't have let that line pass if they didn't want him to only have mastered two elements.
So, I ask you, is Avatar Extras really from Bryke?
Last issue I gave promotion to a fanon by Keitonashita entitled Shoji's Journey. And since then the viewers of that fanon has increased, and Keitonashita receiving lots of praise for his work! This week I will do the same, but for another fanon for all you readers to sink your teeth into.
This issue's featured undiscovered fanon is Taekwond1's fanon series, Azula's Mysterious Plan. The story is set after the war, and follows Azula upon her escape from her rehabilitation center. The first chapter of the series, A Warning starts off to a fast pace, with the beginning of Azula's scheming, and also introduces a reappearing character, Long Feng. The relationship between these two characters is very interesting!
The fanon also takes its' readers around the world. From Ba Sing Se, to the Northern Air Temple, and into the Spirit World itself. Book 1 and Book 2 have already been released in the small time the fanon has been active, and the first chapter of Book 3 already released! If you are a fan of Azula, then you will love the expansion of her character in this piece of fan fiction.
Brilliantly written, with a plethora of chapters already released, and more being released at an astonishing pace, this fanon is definitely worth giving a read!
After the long and heated debate on rather or not we should have an Admin, a new question arose, should we have a Fanon Admin? About one month ago, Avatar Wiki had 6 fanon admins, two active and four inactive. Since then, Avatar Wiki has lost all four inactive due to the three-month inactivity rule; therefore there are two fanon admins remaining, Bos and Superflash101. So the question arises, should we have a new fanon admin. It sounds like a good idea, however there are some problems with it. Of the sixteen rollback users, only six have successful Fanons, Ian, Mightybrit, Dudewaldo4, Dcasawang1, Twilitlink, and myself. Also, the only two rollback users that really deserve it, Mightybrit and Twilitlink, are inactive (I’m not taking anything away from anyone I just think their the only ones qualified). So that just leaves four users who are qualified. Personally I think we should nominate and upgrade two users, but I’ll someone else decide.
How well do you know your Avatar Wiki fauna? I'm prepared to bet that you are about as clueless about Avatar Wiki fauna as the Zutarians were in the shipping wars. Don't worry - today, we're going to remedy that.
Now, the first basic type of Avatar Wiki fauna I'd like to introduce to you today is known as the
White Hamster Energybender (shown to the right). The Energybender is a fearful and squeaky creature. I'm afraid that I don't know much more about the Energybender, however, as they're inclined to scarper away when humans are sighted from editing the wiki. As I recall it, their last known appearance was back when we found that boy in the iceberg. That must've been a while ago.
Another type of fauna is known as the
Snail Sloth Joeyaa. This creature is the very definition of slowness and laziness. If you need to ask a Joeyaa (yes, despite assertions to the contrary, Joeyaas can understand plain, human speech) for a favour, you need to be prepared to wait for a very, very long time. Unfortunately, I was unable to provide a picture of a Joeyaa. It seems that the particular Joeyaa I was studying was too lethargic to pose for even one.
Boarcupine Thailog is a different kind of creature to the first two species I described. A very fierce (some might even say "bad tempered") animal, its quills are quite enough to strike fear and compliance into lesser creatures in the Animal Kingdom on Avatar Wiki. The Boarcupine certainly isn't invincible, however. On one occasion, a flying bison The 888th Avatar emerged victorious in battle... though I hear that some very serious injuries were sustained.
Considering I've now mentioned
Flying Bison The 888th Avatar, I might as well regale you with some details about this creature. Now, while the creature known as The 888th Avatar did emerge victorious in a fight, this is an exception to the rule. This creature is extraordinarily docile. Its inclination is so mild that it's quite likely you can make one do your bidding. A simple call - "Yip yip" "I wantz help, KFAJ" - would probably work.
I'm aware that I'm introducing a lot of material here, but I'd also like to describe the
Elbow Leech Vulmen. This is a most annoying creature, and I tell you this from personal experience. Once a Vulmen attaches itself to your elbow begins stalking your contributions, you will have difficulty dislodging it from your limb stopping it replying to your every comment.
Finally, there is
the Platypus Bear The Bos. This particular creature, in a similar fashion to the Thailog, can appear to be formidable and does in fact demand the respect of many lesser creatures. Research has shown, however, that the Platypus Bear itself can be intimidated, demonstrated by the way in which it fled when confronted by a particular flying bison The 888th Avatar. I hear Bos eggs are a extraordinarily popular treat in some parts.
Okay, that's all for today, class.
The episode , The Desert is about The Gaang wandering the desert trying to search for Appa. They are slowly drifting apart and growing more thirsty by the second. Sokka results in drinking cactus juice but he ends up halucinating for a while. Katara tries to keep everybody together and stable but is slowly failing by the second. Xin Fu and Toph's old master are on a rabid hunt searching for her but refuse to go into the desert so they decide to chase after Zuko and Iroh. After a huge fight Zuko and Iroh escape to Ba Sing Se with the help of Iroh's friends, The Order of The White Lotus. At the very end Aang comes across the thieves who stole Appa. He becomes extremely mad at them, so mad that he enters the avatar state. He was about to destroy everything but is calmed down by Katara while everyone else gets away.
This episode was hilarious thanks to Sokka and his cactus juice. It was also good because it had some action, more humor (not only from Sokka) and signs of shipping. But some parts were not as riveting as others, which is why I rated it 4 stars.
