Well... Not much to say about this one.
I thought that the dynamic between Katara, Pakku, and Aang was something that could have been fleshed out a bit more, so, in this scene (and a few succeeding ones) I attempt to show it a bit more.
The Legend of Aang: Sifu Pakku
EXT. PAKKU’S STUDY – DAY
PAKKU stands, his hands behind his back. AANG and KATARA stand perfectly postured in front of him.
Perhaps I’ve already gotten off on the wrong foot with you two.
PAKKU he begins to pace.
After all, if any good is to come out of our relationship, than we must at least cooperate on some level, shouldn’t we?
KATARA keeps her eyes down, not wanting to face the man. AANG, however, nods.
Tell me, then. What is your current experience?
He looks to KATARA.
I, uh… I don’t use it often, but I do know a few tricks.
KATARA looks at him with disdain.
This is not the place for tricks. If you know how to fight, simply tell me.
PAKKU sighs and turns to AANG.
And you, Avatar?
Uh… Well… Well I…
If you cannot tell me.
PAKKU lifts a ball of water out of a nearby fountain.
Then you will show me.
PAKKU whips around, sending the water careening towards him.
AANG puts his hand up to stop it, but ends up getting doused. KATARA gasps.
PAKKU examines AANG.
Right. No experience, then.
PAKKU bends the water off of AANG, pulling it to himself, looking like he is about to let it back into the fountain. However, he instead hurls the water to KATARA, who quickly freezes it into a wall.
PAKKU nods in approval, walking over to her.
However, he unfreezes the wall, drenching KATARA.
But, we will work on it.
KATARA sputters, as AANG comes to her aid.
What was that about?
It was an assessment. You can tell a lot about somebody by the way they react under pressure.
KATARA squints her eyes.
You, for instance, while being competent enough, still act without true thought of the consequences.
KATARA clenches her fist, but AANG grabs her hand.
And you, Avatar, are not one to face responsibility easily. You, like many of your kind, are capable of wonders… But, you often require the nudge out of the door.
AANG hangs his head.
Well… This will be a challenge.
KATARA looks over to AANG.
However, we don’t appear to have much of a choice, now do we?
What do you mean?
Based on what we’ve heard of your travels, we’ve got a few weeks at most before the Fire Nation is at our doorstep.
AANG sighs and closes his eyes.
I’ve got that much time to teach both of you the basics.
KATARA and AANG exchange glances anxiously.
Now, shall we begin?
