Hmm... I wonder if I haven't gone a little too far here... At least, a little too quickly... Ah, whatever...
Anyway, I wanted to try to make this scene basically what the romance would be like if Hahn's subplot didn't exist. Hahn does exist in this version, but his role is so extremely different that I may as well change the name... Oh, well.
I wanted to try to establish Yue's connection to the moon subtly here, but not enough that it seems odd for a character we've only just met. I was actually looking forward to this scene, for the reason that it sort of provides Sokka's version of Katara and Aang's scene from a little earlier. With some recent edits, I've been able to keep the focus on Aang just a little bit more, but, unlike the 2010 film, I'm attempting to make sure the siblings get their necessary development.
Anyway, rambling over, enjoy!
The Legend of Aang: A Nighttime Sky
EXT. NORTHERN WATER TRIBE – NIGHT
SOKKA waits at a corner of the city, now dressed in somewhat more gentlemanly garments. He adjusts his neckline, before noticing YUE walking toward him.
He quickly adjusts his posture, and extends a hand toward her. She chuckles and excepts it.
You certainly know how to dress well for a woman, I’ll say that much.
SOKKA laughs a bit, clutching his sides.
I don’t think they had temperature in mind when they made this thing… Or comfort.
YUE laughs, motioning SOKKA to walk with her.
You know, I have to say, this is a nice change of pace.
What do you mean?
This place. It’s calm, it’s out of the way.
You enjoy it?
SOKKA chuckles slightly.
I’ve been on the road for two months. I haven’t had a full night of sleep since. I haven’t been allowed to eat any meat, or test out my skills with a boomerang, or… anything! This is a very welcome change.
YUE smiles. SOKKA looks around himself.
And that’s not even mentioning the city. It’s gorgeous.
YUE’s smile fades.
It’s comforting to know that there’s some places that even they can’t touch.
What’s it like in the South?
Imagine if you took one of those warrior encampments and tried to fit a whole village in there. Then, decimate the food supply, take away the men…
YUE looks down at the ground.
And, add a constant, looming feeling of insecurity.
They walk in silence for a second, YUE subtly moving closer to SOKKA. She soon grabs his wrist.
She begins to lead him by his wrist, up a flight of stairs.
Hey! Where are we going?
My favorite spot in the city.
She runs him over to a balcony, and smiles as SOKKA looks entrancedly at the sky.
The moon is full in the sky, and the northern lights covering the sky.
SOKKA walks over to the railing, YUE soon joining him.
I always come here. No matter what I hear, it always inspires me.
YUE looks over to SOKKA.
If you take away the lights, you still have the moon. And if the moon is away, then you have the stars. There’s a beauty up there, that nobody can touch.
SOKKA looks over to her.
For cheering me up.
