All in all, this version is rather similar to most interpretations, except for two major differences.
For one, Aang wakes up. That might not seem too strange, but Sokka renders him unconscious right after seeing his tatoos.
Secondly, Ozai is now informed of the Avatar's return by a Sage who notices the discharge of spirit energy in the Crescent Island temple as Aang is released. I felt was necessary for narative flow in order to get our main villain into the film.
The Legend of Aang : A Boy in an Iceberg
A strange blue light is seen in the water. KATARA and SOKKA exchange glances, but turn back when they notice that the water is starting to churn.
SOKKA places his arm over KATARA and begins to back up with her as a strange humming noise begins to be heard.
A huge sphere of ice shoots up from out of the water, bobbing up and down before finally settling.
SOKKA starts to cower but KATARA walks closer, beginning to circle the hole of water.
She then pauses, and looks closer into the sphere.
A silhouette of AANG is seen through the light reflecting into the ice.
KATARA widens her eyes as SOKKA is seen backing up behind her.
Alright, let’s just head back to the tribe, say we had an uneventful trip and get on with our lives…
Sokka, I think there’s someone in there…
SOKKA and KATARA begin to hear a rumbling. They back up.
The sphere begins to crumble, with a steady stream of blue light filling the sky. KATARA and SOKKA cover their eyes. A sharp ring comes out as well.
INT. ZUKO’S QUARTERS - DAY
ZUKO sits in the lotus position in front of some candles. He suddenly tilts his head when he hears the ringing from his cabin. He immediately gets up from his seat and goes to a porthole.
The light extends into the sky, until it eventually disappears.
ZUKO is amazed and tantalized by what he just witnessed. He fumbles for a few seconds before he can even get a word out.
INT. FIRE NATION TEMPLE – DAY
A sage passes a statue of AVATAR ROKU, before the statue’s eyes light up. He stops and pauses, looking at the statue.
His lip quivers as if he wishes to say something, but doesn’t.
EXT. ICE PLAIN – DAY
SOKKA and KATARA remove their hands from their eyes. KATARA begins to lean forward.
Great. Among everything else I think I’m flash blind now.
KATARA breaks his grasp and heads over to the ice.
Why do I even bother?
KATARA hops over the now destroyed husk of the ice shell and slides down into the resulting crater. She stops cold.
AANG lies motionless on the floor of the shell, a hood covering his tattoos.
KATARA kneels down next to him and begins to try to get him up. SOKKA jumps in next to her. He points bewilderedly at AANG.
KATARA motions him away and returns to lifting up AANG.
SOKKA turns away, screaming as he sees what lies before him. He walks cautiously towards APPA, who lies motionless on the ground.
What is that?
KATARA props AANG against a wall of the sphere, and tries to revive him. First, she tries slapping his cheeks lightly. She looks over to SOKKA. He stands in front of APPA, whose tail is beginning to swing.
Katara, there’s no way he can still be alive.
He is then nearly pushed over by the force of APPA’s tail hitting him. He turns around to face him. KATARA presses her ear to AANG’s chest. Her eyes widen as she detects a heartbeat and faces him.
He is alive.
We’ve got to get him back to the village.
SOKKA looks as if it takes all he is to stop from bursting out laughing.
Yeah, I’m sure that’d look great…
KATARA leaps up to face him.
We can’t just leave him here.
Yes we can. He’s alive. He can get out of here on his own.
We’ve got to take him back.
Are you crazy? Imagine what they-
Their eyes both bulge out as they turn to face the before lifeless boy.
AANG stares at them, a frightened expression on his face. KATARA frantically looks between SOKKA and AANG, before breaking an uneasy smile on her face.
AANG has eased somewhat, but not much.
Would you mind telling me where I am?
SOKKA then, without warning, yells and lunges forward with his spear. AANG hops to his feet and screams as he is pinned against the wall of ice.
Who are you?
My name’s Aang. I don’t want any trouble.
All right. How did you get out here? And why aren’t you frozen?
I don’t know. I think I was caught in a storm.
SOKKA lowers his spear in utter disbelief in what he just heard.
Must’ve been some storm.
AANG starts to calm a bit.
Who, exactly, are you two?
My name’s Katara, and the violent one’s Sokka.
SOKKA shoots her a brief glare.
AANG steps away from the wall and faces KATARA, almost inadvertently putting his hood down.
KATARA stares completely silently at the boy’s tattoos, her eyes widening. AANG looks confusedly at her. He begins to move toward her.
He then falls from a sharp blow to the head. As he falls we see it was SOKKA, who grips his spear guiltily.
KATARA stares at AANG’s once again lifeless body. She then looks, appalled, to SOKKA.
INT. FIRE NATION – OZAI’S THRONE ROOM – DAY
OZAI is seen against a decorative window, staring at it with a cup of tea. The sage runs up to him, panting heavily. OZAI barely turns his head to the noise.
The SAGE hesitates before continuing.
Well? Get on with it.
He closes his eyes and exhales, before explaining.
My lord. The Avatar has returned.
OZAI’S teacup clatters to the ground.
