About

This is just an idea I had for a prologue of a film adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender that I am sharing with KaneC and Buttongoo after the latter's blog post. It is very similar in the style and format of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring's prologue, which is in a video below.

The prologue music - I recommend listening to this whilst reading through it, as the music may guide you - as it inspired me to write this. The dialogue lasts until about 5:50 on the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNx8tz4qVeI#t=139

The Prologue

AVATAR ROKU (naration)

Water. Earth. Fire. Air.

Fade from black:

As Roku announces each element, a silhouetted bender of each element appears on screen and displays their abilities.

Fade to black:

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

Only the Avatar could master all four elements, and only he, could have prevented, the war to come...

Fade from black:

The title The Legend of Aáng appears.

Fade to black:

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

Fade to:

AVATAR'S YANGCHEN, KURUK, KYOSHI and ROKU appear on screen one at a time.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

For over seven hundred years, the Avatar maintained peace, and order amongst the Four Nations.

Fade to:

One by one appear the Northern Water Tribe, Ba Sing Se, the Fire Nation Capital, and the Southern Air Temple.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

The Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. For seven hundred years there had been peace and prosperity. But war was brewing...

Fade to:

A map of the Avatar World pans from east to west, to zoom into the Fire Nation capital, where the Fire Lord sits upon his thrown.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

In the west of that world, in the heart of the Fire Nation. The Fire Lord, Sozin, plotted domination of the Four Nations.

Fade to:

A comet pierces the sky.

Fade to:

Sozin smiles maliciously.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

And on the day Sozin's Comet turned the skies red, he struck.

Fade to:

Hundreds upon hundreds of Firebending soldiers march under the red sky up the side of the Southern Air Temple, stoping, and then blasting fire into the camera.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

An army of Firebenders began the attack on their first target, the Air Nomads.

Cut to:

Air Nomads and monks rush to battle down the mountain side, creating strong currents of wind as they sprint. The army of Firebenders stand in line, with swords drawn, and as the Nomads approach the line, the Firebenders strike down the Nomads with swords, spears, and enourmous balls of fire. Nomads positioned at the temple fire dozens of arrows down on the Firebenders now charging up the side of the mountain. The few dozen Air Nomads cannot hold off the hundreds of enhanced-Firebending soldiers, and the temple begins to burn, as the women and children run screaming from the Fire Nation army, as the monks fall, burning. MONK GYATSO holds off the remaining hundreds of soldiers penetrating the temple, and manages to take down dozzens, single handedly. But he cannot continue forever, and his chest is pierced by a burning arrow. His lifeless body falls to the ground, and the soldiers charge over GYATSO's corpse, towards the women and children.

AVATAR ROKU (CONT'D)

The enhanced power of the Fire Nation was no match for the Air Nomads, and when the world needed him most, the Avatar disapeared.

All but one.
