Here I am, for my second review in the FRS (A late one, at that)! I woke up Monday morning, and was like: "Oh, crap! I've got a review!" xD So, here I am, reviewing a very interesting fanon: Jump, by Azulazulazula.
Warning: Spoilers for Jump below.
Toph Beifong, esteemed Chief of Police, has been framed for murder, but the true murderer framed her well, even getting her arrested. Only one problem: the metalbending Police Chief can and has escaped any trap, but in this case, she had to kill six people to do it, and another seven just to see her best friend Sokka. Now, the prosecution has her charged with fourteen counts of first degree murder, and if anybody catches her, she'll be hanged for sure. She won't let that happen. She has to run, but first, she has to find and talk to her best friend first. And along the way, she'll make some decisions, some crucial decisions. And maybe, just maybe, she can drag her best friend along with her...
If anything, this is one of the bestTokka fanons I've read. Maybe on the entire wiki. There are some believability issues, but honestly, I love this story! The writing is amazing, and I was moping around the house for ten minutes (or so) after reading the first chapter (Really, AAA? Really?) because of how well AAA manipulates your emotions through reading his awesome stuff.
Score: 9.0 - From that first chapter, AAA pulls you right on in, bolts you to the floor with metal chains, and recounts his incredible tale, keeping intensity levels high as he drills an awesome tale into your head. *taps noggin* Right around there. However, despite the intensity of the tale, he keeps it nice and refreshing with character interaction (as well as other plot devices).
Score: 9.0 - A lot of fanons I read nowadays rush right into the plot, but AAA sketches his story out nice and slowly, taking his time to make sure each step of his story is done for sure before continuing. A slight deduction to the score, however, because of how well he does this. *wince* Kinda... drag-y. But, in the end, it works out because of Suspense and INTENSITY! >:D
Score: 8.8 - Nothing can be more creative than putting Toph in the role of a criminal! Perfect! Keep it up, AAA~! Though, just a (teensy) deduction 'cause of the focus on canon characters.
Score: 10.0 - His grammar is perfecto, but the style is his best category here! AAA throws in intensity, suspense and emotion into his story, brewing a great tale for the everyday reader.
Score: 8.7 - I do see the character development you are throwing in, but Sokka and Toph seem kinda outta whack. I don't think Toph would give up so easily, and I don't think Sokka would become so dry.
Score: Omitted - According to the main page, it is an action story, but so far, I haven't seen much action. From what I'm reading though, its looking like AAA is picking up his action for the next chapter...
Score: 8.5 - I hate to have to deduct points her, but as stated above, Sokka and Toph seem outta whack, as well as some other things, such as the way Katara acts about the whole fiasco with Sokka, and some backstory stuff from the first chapter. But with just a little more convincing (and more Sokka humor!) your score would go up. :)
Score: 9.3 - You got this in the bag, man! Three cheers for AAA! The way you portray the emotions is great, and makes this a top-notch drama fiction!
Average score: 9.0
Another 9.0! *standing ovation*
Tips for Azulazulazula:
You are a great author, in all truth. Amazing, really. But to better your fanon, I'd suggest speeding up slightly, and (hopefully) adding some of our old Sokka into his character. Other than that, just keep writing! Good luck!
Who should read this?
Anyone, really, who is looking for a good fanon. Bonus points for people trying to learn how to show realistic emotions through your writing, or manipulate them. >:D Even more bonus points for Tokka shippers! :)
Well, thank you, , for reading this, and thanks AAA for writing this awesome fanon! Glad you could join me for my second FRS review installment! See ya guys next time!
