Omashu Rocks here for another installment of FRS:The Omashu Scoop! I would first like to sincerely apologize for the extreme lateness of this review (yes, that's twice in a row…) First the Wiki was in read-only mode then my Mac died… Anyways, today's fanon isby .
Authors' Plot: Ba Sing Se is kept balanced by the Dai Li. Any signs of conflict or talk of war are silenced immediately by these elite Earthbenders, under the strict eye of Long Feng. Brainwashing, imprisonment, execution... anything's acceptable to maintain order. Those who disrupt the peace must be eliminated at once. ...Right?
Yuhan, a highly talented converter of rebels (a.k.a. brainwasher) doesn't really have any issues with the Dai Li's reasoning. He lives to contribute to the balance of the city; he doesn't really have anything else to do, anyway. After an unexpected twist of events, however, a childhood friendship resurfaces - and blooms into love.
It wouldn't have been so bad if the Dai Li hadn't deemed her a disruptor of peace.
Plot/Storyline: Awesome! For those who haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan of Earth Kingdom fanons and the whole mystery of the Dai Li. I knew from the beginning that I would love it and I did- great storyline. 9.5
Organization: Really no complaints, but I'll never give an amazingly high score for this (my version of weighted scores). 9.4
Creativity: Are Dai Li brainwashings or forbidden loves original? No, but I've never heard of a fanon like this before. 9.2
Action: I usually prefer a bit more fights/battles, being an action guy myself. The quality, however, was great! 9.4
Interest Level: Each chapter got at least a 9.4 in this. 9.5
Character Development: Excellent. The way Yuhan is already doubting the Dai Li’s reasoning in the beginning to how his beliefs evolve, and how his relationship with Riya develops is incredible. This may be the greatest CD fanon I've read due to the lovers' relationship, the attitudes of the Dai Li, and… everything. Proud to assign the first-ever 9.7
Believability: I can actually imagine the Dai Li doing everything in here. Long Feng was also well-represented. 9.4
General Writing: Minnichi’s writing is beautiful, simply put. Her descriptions are beautiful and she’s mastered just about ever literary device. On top of that, her ,sometimes satiric, way of writing what the Dai Li would have said as propaganda is wonderful, calling agents “Peace Orators” that “‘ensure the safety of the people’- silence Ba Sing Se once again”. 9.5
Average Score: 9.5
Note: All Scores Are Out Of Ten
What Minnichi does right:
I just found another rising star. As I've said earlier, many parts of the fanon take on a satiric tone, and I love that- it's a key component of tons of great novels in the real world. Likewise, this style will give SHiE a big boost. Also, the author's descriptions are remarkable, the CD is flawless, it's believable, and very entertaining. Three thumbs up!
What Minnichi could improve on:
It took me forever to think of something to put here. All I can say is perhaps… more action.
Who does Silent Hero in Emerald appeal to?
If you love the corruption of the Dai Li, the secrets of Ba Sing Se, and the politics of the Earth Kingdom, then read this fanon right away! Now!
