Is It Possible?

Is it really possible that the avatarverse takes place in the future? I was watching Avatar Extras for "The Waterbending Scroll" and it mentions that the first gold pieces were made by Eygptians...why would they mention this in a show unrelated to our Earth or is it? Also the ocean leading into the Fire Nation is called the Pacific Ocean, why would it be called that? Why nt something entirely different? It also mentions the world Lemur comes from the Latin word Lemures why would they be called lemurs then? No Latin language existed in the Avatar world, only ours.
