The Legend of Korra is set to premiere one month from today, the day of this post, on Saturday, April 14 at 11:00 AM. In a major press release today, Nickelodeon made many announcements relating to upcoming shows and put forward an upfront for more than 650 episodes "accross every genre", according to Marketwatch.com. Not least among these--rather, featured most prominently among them--was the announcement regarding Korra:
The Legend of Korra, in which the mythology of the beloved animated franchise from Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko continues. The series centers around a new Avatar named Korra, a 17-year-old headstrong and rebellious girl who continually challenges and bucks tradition on her …Read more >
Today we got what I think is the best Avatar-related behind-the-scenes info since the Legend of Korra Comic-Con press release. In honor of that, I'm going to recap the Top Ten Most Important Revelations related to the new series since its announcement.
March 2011 The longevity of Legend of Korra was assured when the announcement came that Nickelodeon would in fact be airing an additional 14 episodes in the series. This doesn’t really come as a surprise: The same scenario occurred on the original series, when the episode “The Blue Spirit” could have possibly been a premature series finale. Since attending the Legend of Korra panel at this year’s Comic-Con, I’ve been hugely intrigued by the many revelations given to us by the creative team behind the new series. The aspect of the new series that intrigues me most is definitely the characters. I’d wager I’m not alone here. One newly revealed character, in particular, for which I’ve developed a strong affinity, is the character Mako. Because of this I even have a costume in the works. That's right, I’ll be cosplaying him at future conventions (so excited)! He’s very similar to me in appearance and in age, which causes a natural inclination, but more t…Read more >
Just some random thoughts on The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra. Some moments that would be cool to see, but have really no substantive effect on the plot whatsoever. Here's my list of 10.
- “Who Is She? She’s Beautiful.” Obviously, a major nod to Star Wars, Bolin would make this remark to his brother upon seeing Korra for the first time. A perfect brother bonding, Han/Luke moment. I guess it depends on whether their meeting is accidental or arranged, but a moment like this is probably the closest thing to a “squee” moment for me as you could get. May seem like fantasy, but Joaquim Dos Santos (sporting a Star Wars hat) recited the latter part of this quote upon the reveal of Korra’s finished design at Comic-Con. Foreshadowing? :)
- “I Have A Bad Feelin…

Greetings from the Avatar Wiki’s resident Comic-Con 2011 attendee! I’m sorry this is so late but I wasn’t sure whether I was going to link to a bunch of photos or external sources but I figure I might as well publish this in some fashion since it’s all written up. Yes, I was at Comic-Con for all four days, but for me only two were at least somewhat Avatar- or Legend of Korra-centric. Unfortunately I did not arrive on time to make it to the “Character of Music” panel on Thursday featuring Jeremy Zuckerman and Ben Wynn, who had invited Mike and Bryan to sit on that panel as well.
Saturday was the day I made a very emphatic point to get to the convention center early, since the two previous days my sister and didn’t get there until the afternoon…
