Hey there, Mageddon725 here, reviewing Darksome Knights: Resurrection by Lightningthief9 on behalf of the Fanon Review Squad as a test review.

Darksome Knights is a fanon created by Lightningthief9. It was originally created as a fanon for Kingdom Hearts, but it changed to involve more Avatar references. It combines references of Avatar, Kingdom Hearts, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pokemon, and Percy Jackson.

Let me begin by stating that the premise of the fanon is rather creative. I’ve never seen another crossover like this one, which merges so many varied worlds and their characters with Avatar. That, however, is perhaps the source of my discontent. Lightningthief is an excellent writer, but attempting to mesh together seven worlds and their respective characters is a daunting task indeed. The writing style is very good, but the story is just all over the place. Inconsistency and short chapters make for a confusing read, and I believe that it detracts from what had the potential to be a great fanon.

Scores:

Story – 6.0: It had so much potential, but Darksome Knights falls flat due to incoherence within the story and a lack of cohesiveness.

Action – 7.5: Darksome Knights was no slouch action-wise; it was done well. The confrontations were very descriptive.

Writing – 8.5: As I stated previously, the writing was excellent. It, in and of itself, was coherent and free of grammatical slip-ups. Lightningthief is a writer; that’s for sure.

Creativity – 7.0: Darksome Knights is incredibly creative, as I have never seen a fanon like it. However, it gets points off for the way the creativity is presented.

Believability – 6.5: There were more than a few moments where I found myself asking “Would they really act that way/say that”.

Character Development – 5.5: Characters often make or break any creative work, and the characters in Darksome Knights are no exception. From the beginning, there is no backstory, and little to no growth is present. Characters need growth to show their third dimension and at least some form of backstory or something to help the reader identify with them.

Average Score: 6.8

Note: All scores are out of ten

Advice for Lightningthief9: I do apologize if this score seems harsh; you really are a good writer. What I would suggest for the future is that you focus on character development, longer chapters, and a more cohesive story. The best advice I have for you is to keep writing and train yourself.

Who should read Darksome Knights? Anyone who enjoys crossovers and those who already know and love the characters from the other works would be right at home with Darksome Knights.
