Hey there, here, reviewing by on behalf of the Fanon Review Squad.
Tales of Their World is about what life was like in the Avatar World. The series of one-shots depicts not only the adventure, but the everyday life stuff...and more.
Tales is a series (well…two at the moment…) of one-shots, a style that has become more and more commonplace. I feel that one-shots can often express aspects of characters that we rarely see and make for some really beautiful moments. That being said, I feel like only one of the two that have been written carried any real emotional weight for me.
Story – 8.5: Both have very interesting plots, and they are both executed well, but The Death of Her Savior is arguably the better of the two. Snip should definitely add more one-shots to this piece.
Action – 9.0: Though only one of these little stories has any action, I cannot fault the action scenes I do find in it.
Writing – 9.1: The overall grammar and syntax is quite advanced in its usage; I only found a few minor missteps. Even then, those were more clunkiness issues than anything.
Creativity – 9.0: Fanons that consist of a series of one-shots are becoming rather common. Fortunately, I can say with some certainty that most of them are different from each other, simply because they are one-shots.
Believability – 7.0: I found that one of the two stories was excellent in this category, but the funeral left a little to be desired, as some of the characters said things in a way that didn’t seem all that believable to me.
Character Development – 9.2: I dare say the character development in the Death of Her Savior is done far better than in Life is Too Short, and it offsets that greatly.
Average Score: 8.6
Note: All scores are out of ten
Advice for Snip101: Keep writing these one-shots; they are exceptional. Just try and remember to keep characters…well, in character.
Who should read Tales of Their World? Anyone who enjoys a great series of one-shots, of which I hope there will be more, should definitely read this.
