Hey there, here, reviewing by on behalf of the Fanon Review Squad.
This fanon focuses on a Fire Nation girl named Rokan. Having recently lost her parents and brother in a terrible fire, Rokan has taken on a cover name and personality; a cold, mysterious character who takes the name of Zoai. The Legend of Rokan begins in the outer villages of the Earth Kingdom. Rokan (under the guise of Zoai) is slowly making her way through the Kingdom, for lack of anything better to do. However, she is making enemies quickly. Little can be foreseen of her future; Rokan is hard pressed to make it through a single day without her life being threatened...
Believe it or not, I have been waiting for a review request for this fanon simply so that I would get to say how awesome it is! Firebender weaves Rokan’s heart-wrenching narrative into the existing A:TLA story with no trouble, and it is a blast to read.
Story – 9.8: It may be in a familiar universe, but LoR is in a class all its own. It brings new life to the world of Avatar.
Action – 10.0: Superb. Literally, I can’t think of a single instance where it wasn’t absolutely riveting!
Writing – 9.5: Apart from a few slightly choppy areas early on, this is done very well. Most of those early issues, such as relatively simple sentences kind of just strung together, are done away with as the story goes on.
Creativity – 9.4: The Legend of Rokan takes the story of A:TLA and makes it the backdrop for this more personal conflict in an amazing way.
Believability – 10.0: I felt that everything within (story elements, character interaction, etc.) was all done exceptionally well in this department, and I usually find at least one or two problems here.
Character Development – 9.0: If it were only Rokan’s development involved, I would give this a ten, as well. However, I would’ve liked to have seen more of Zhensu beyond the nearly insane with grief guy that the story portrayed. Seeing him like that all the time got…tedious, and it made him appear two-dimensional.
Average Score: 9.6
Note: All scores are out of ten
Advice for Firebender896: Like I said, more of Zhensu beyond his motivation for killing Rokan would’ve been nice. Other than that, excellent job and congratulations on LoR’s completion!
Who should read The Legend of Rokan? Everyone who loves Avatar fanon should check this one out! Rokan’s story is deep and emotional, and the drawings are pretty awesome, too!
