Hey there, Fanon Review Squad.here, reviewing by on behalf of the
It is 200 years after the events of The War. Peace has reigned in the world for a very long time, and as such the world has changed. The Avatar, not needed due to the prevalent peace, has gone into seclusion and isolation. In his absence, the Order of the White Lotus has replaced him as the world's peace keepers, making sure that the peace of the world is not disturbed. Along with them, a new batch of unique warriors has arisen, called the Samurai. Riding great beasts, they are the White Lotus' main warriors, travelling all over the world and making sure that trouble does not blow out of proportion into a massive cataclysm of chaos.
Combining samurai traditions and customs with the Avatar World is indeed a daunting prospect, if not an incredibly creative one. So far, though, Kamigati has managed to allay my fears by crafting a genius story that has kept me reading.
Story – 9.5: This story is honestly amazing! The idea and execution mesh flawlessly, while many fanons only have one or the other.
Action – 9.2: Well-described and constantly present, but with believable rest periods.
Writing- 8.9: A few spelling and grammar hiccups occur, as well as some choppy sentence structure. However, this is still great.
Creativity – 9.6: This is one of the most creative ideas I’ve ever had the privilege of reading, no doubt about it.
Believability – 8.2: This is the one category where it gets dicey. The plot elements and characters so far have performed incredibly and believably, but, for an Avatar story, it doesn’t feel as much like one as I had hoped. Who knows? Maybe that will change.
Character Development – 9.0: With only four chapters, we don’t see much development, but the characters are each their own.
Average Score: 9.1
Note: All scores are out of ten
Advice for Kamigati: Other than double-checking your spelling and grammar, you could try making the world and story seem a bit more Avatar-verse. Other than that, keep writing!
Who should read Avatar: Shattered Balance? Anyone who loves an anime/manga style Avatar story with samurai should definitely read this, and if that’s not your thing…try it anyway. You might find something new to like.
