Legend of Korra was a great show; that much is true. Unfortunately, LoK was considered by many to not to live up to the same standards that were created by Avatar: The Last Airbender. When I saw this negative reaction and examined the evidence, I realized that their were many factors that led to this unfortunate event to occur.
1. Legend of Korra's Short Season Time:
Legend of Korra's first season was only around for 12 short episodes, thanks to a limited time frame for the creators of the show. Because they had to explain the equalist movement, what had happened between A:TLA and Lok, and many other smaller details, it became nearly impossible to explain everything in a way that would make fans of the show feel content with all the information thrown at them.
2. Avatar: The Last Airbender's High Expectations:
Avatar: The Last Airbender had done many things that many other shows before and even after had trouble doing: character development, relationships that developed naturally, and stories that actually meant something. Legend of Korra had all these things, but unfortunatly, it could not execute them as perfectly or as meaningful as The Last Airbender with the limited amount of time it had.
3. Legend of Korra's Different Setting:
Legend of Korra takes place a couple decades after the events of The Last Airbender. There is a new sport called Pro-bending, there are radios... heck, there are even cars! Unfortunatly, The Last Airbender had been set in an older time period, and this drastic change threw off many of the old fans.
After years of showing The Last Airbender on their main channel, Nickelodeon decided to move the show to Nicktoons Network, a channel many people do not have. Legend of Korra was only shown for a brief period of time before being moved to Nicktoons Network as well, and shown even less than The Last Airbender. Even if the Legend of Korra had fewer episodes, it should still be shown on Nickelodeon every so often because it wasn't on there for very long.
5. Long Time Gap:
The simplest reason Legend of Korra could never be as good as Avatar was because of the long time span between the two of them, which left only the most dedicated of fans waiting for it.
Legend of Korra: Season One was a good show, but many factors led it to never being as good as Avatar: The Last Airbender. I can't wait for Season Two of Korra to see if they can make the show even better and just to see more Avatar.
I'll see you all later,
