Because now is your chance! We at the Fanon Review Squad are opening our doors once again to let users try out to be part of our awesome group.
We have a massive fanon portal, and heaps of active writers, however currently we're so backlogged with reviews that it can be hard for a newer author to get some helpful advice. That's where you come in.
See, we're looking for active users on the fanon portal who have an interest in reading and critiquing other people's stories.
So, what are we looking for?
There are a few... non-official requirements that you need to have, though (tick off as applicable):
- We generally prefer those who apply to have a fanon of their own. Users who sign up to you and looking for an unbiased opinion of the quality of their work, and it's easier to connect with users who seem to know what their talking about (namely, ones who have gone through the trials of writing their own story)
- You are someone who can influence other authors' chances of reading a fanon through your positive or negative evaluation. You will have the opportunity to feature any reviews in Avatar Wiki's two newsletters as well
- Your schedule is really important. It lets people know how active you are and how long you expect to take between each review. If you choose not to have dates, that's fine—we don't use them—but you have to remember that you've made a commitment. Basically, just treat your reviews with as much care and consideration as you would your own story.
It doesn't matter to us if you've been on the wiki since the dawn of time, or you just joined yesterday. We just need strong writers who can critique other people's stories, critique people's stories well, and enjoy it ^^"
And, this thing works... how?
So, to try out for the Review Squad, you just need to... do a review. It's a tryout.
We're looking at how effectively you review and critique a story, as well as things such as punctuality and how well you get your point across. Even the sort of constructive criticism you use! This may sound daunting, but don't be worried (or put off). We've chosen a great story for you to look at. I should know—it's the one I had to do ^^"
We want you to review past test reviews to help you get started (and I certainly recommend a glance at Minnichi's reviews of the test reviews; however, we want you to bring your own charm and style with it.'s story, . In your test review, we want to see you critique a story without bias, in the same format you would if you were a member of the FRS. You're more than welcome to look at
We don't have an actual closing date for submissions, but do be aware that punctuality is never frowned on—actually, the more punctual you are, the better! Though we don't have a closing date in mind at the moment, we will give you warning when we decide one.
If mine isn't as pretty, is that okay?
If you don't know how to do a lot of the coding yet, that's completely fine. You're more than welcome to use it, however we are not looking at the colours and style. We will be looking only at the quality of the review you give, and nothing else.
How do I send you my review?
All you have to do is comment on this post to state your interest in applying, and once the review is done, just post a link
When is this due by?
There really is no deadline, however punctuality is always appreciated (and may even get you some brownie points). We definitely don't want you to stress about time and come up with a half-hearted review, but you do need to be able to stick to any schedule you create.
Remember, though–quality over quantity.
Now, if you have any more questions, don't be afraid to message eitheror . Good luck to all the applicants, and just remember–this is about having fun. If you don't get in next time, trust me, there will be another chance.
