In some opinions, one of the most acclaimed characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender was the deranged Princess Azula. In a recent and unexpected interview with, Grey DeLisle (the actress the gave Azula her iconic voice) discusses working on the show, and what went into voicing this complex character, especially during the emotional series finale.

For starters, when asked how she got the role,

Grey: They went through a lot of famous actresses because they didn’t want a voice virgin taking this amazing roll, and they came crawling back — the peasants that they were — to me, and I was able to do it, by not yelling or screaming too much.
