Hello folks, welcome the wiki's newest deputy editor of the Ba Sing Se Times, yours truly. If you don't know what the Times is, that is acceptable, for we don't expect everyone to. An issue hasn't appeared since March. So if you don't know what it is, let me explain in short. The Ba Sing Se Times is an Avatar Wiki newsletter, that used to appear on time every other Saturday, that any user could contribute an article to. But starting last Fall, and then through last Winter and into the Spring, we had a decline in the newsletter, both in our ability to get it out on time and in the number of articles we got for the newsletter.
I made this blog so the community can revive the Ba Sing Se Times. 888 and I are working on organizing everything, but we need you to give us the content to create the newsletter. You need to create a column for the Times. The fact that a lot of users don't know is that anyone can create an article for the Times (and they get a contributor userbox, if that's an incentive). Please consider making a column, even if you don't think you are good enough. Anyone can write something, you can say whatever you want, make it as long as you want, and there are over 130 subscribers plus anyone else that will read it. If you want to get the word out about something, this is the best way to do it. We hope that you will help out to bring back the newsletter.
Want to write but aren't sure what to write about? Here are some ideas:
- Theories about Legend of Korra
- Episode reviews
- Character reviews
- Something about a new fanon of yours
- Fanon reviews
- Opinion of the wiki (community, government, etc)
- Advertisement to get the word out about a particular group or project of yours
Of course, it's not just limited to that. You can say anything you want the whole community to look at and comment about. Once you've decided what you're doing and have written the column (it can be pretty much any reasonable length), you'll need to submit it to us for it to appear in the newspaper. There are two options for sending it in:
- Put the article in a sandbox (if you need to, we can give you instructions on how to make one, just post in the comments) and give the link to either me or 888 on your talk page.
- Send an email to 888 with your article.
Here's the hard part. We are planning to create the next issue this Satuday, the 16th. Which means all of these articles must be in by early Saturday at the latest, preferably sometime tomorrow. I know that this is late notice, but if everyone contributes something smaller we will still have an issue of decent length. Please consider helping out.
