Dai Li agents This is an official writing competition of the Fanonbenders! We hope you have fun participating!

Flameo, everybody!

It's time for another edition of the Fanonbender’s Fanontastic Fanon Contest. Let's start off with the results from Round 5. Reading through each of the entries was a blast, as always.

The prompt from last contest concerned the development of the relationship between multiple characters. While the overall writing was taken into account in our judging, the decisive factor was how the pieces presented the characters and highlighted their relationship and how it was developed in the story.

The Wanderer by Agent Slash distinguished itself through the interesting relationship it portrayed, and the dynamic behind it, but some more descriptive language and flow would have made the reader feel the relationship better. Meanwhile, Katherine Rebekah established the main theme of her piece Choose very clearly, though some of the dialogue felt like the events were moving too fast to be believable. Nevertheless, it was a great read and we hope that all who participated this month will continue to do so in the future.

And now, without further adieu:

Special Mention: A Simple Game
It takes a lot of talent to develop a relationship further that's already been developed so much, and Mageddon725 is just the person to rise to that challenge. Through Zuko's self-consciousness and Iroh's more relaxed demeanor, it was the characters themselves that Mage allowed to tell the story as he wrote for them. For a character-driven prompt, especially one with relationship, that fits perfectly.

First Place: Chapter 11 - Fate and Trust
Obviously, Lady Lostris needs no introduction, as every canon and fanon editor and commenter will see that she's pretty much everywhere on here. In addition to her tireless editing and her administrator duties, she writes a fanon series entitled Heiress of the Nile, set in an alternate universe which combines Avatar and Ancient Egypt.

This latest installment of that fanon was packed with relationship development between characters from start to finish. With it's emotional struggle, vivid description and powerful dialogue, the characters and their relationships materialize before our eyes and undergo strong trial and growth. In fact, this chapter did this more than once, with the protagonist and multiple other characters in individual scenes, and each time was executed well. Taking all this into consideration, it was finally agreed upon to award Chapter 11 - Fate and Trust the top prize for Round 5.

We want to thank all the participants, and we even made a userbox for you to have! Just type out {{FBParticipate|round|fanon|type}} to stick onto your profile! Just change 'round' to 'round 5', 'fanon' to your fanon's name, and 'type' with whether it was a one-shot or chapter!

As for LL, she wins the right to use her very own userbox, which states that she won the contest this time. This box uses the code {{FBWinner|round5|fanon|type}}.

Now, onto this month’s prompt.

Unlike most of what we've done so far, this time the prompt will not follow a character-focused example. The prompt this month is to write about "extreme temperatures". Submissions will be accepted through September 23.

What does "extreme temperatures" mean exactly? Well, it involves just that, and you have a hot route and a cold route to pick from. So, will you make us face off against Combustion Man? Or struggle to survive in the dead of winter? Will you bring your heroes into an active volcano or the freezing waters of the Southern Water Tribe? It matters not where the extreme temperature comes from, but in what you make of it. Best of luck!
