Heyo, everyone! Agent Slash, a.k.a. Suki Fanboy with something that has been on my mind for a while.
Okay, so we all know what shipping is and how big of a factor it was in the first season of The Legend of Korra. I have seen SO many people commenting on either Mako, Asami, or Korra, saying bad things about all of them.
We also know what a big factor shipping was in the original series, with many people shipping Kataang, Zutara, Sukka, Tokka, and many others.
With all of this going on, many people have done something that I cannot stand: they have disliked certain characters JUST because of shipping.
Many people do not like Suki, for example. I literally cannot come up with a single reason anyone would dislike her except for the fact that they ship some other Sokka-related ship. You don't have to love her, but many people openly hate her for no reason.
Another example is Mako and Asami. I have seen Mako referred to as a heartless jerk by some and have even seen fanons depicting him as abusive towards Asami. I have also seen Asami referred to as a 'bit**' for no apparent reason. Now, again, you don't have to love certain characters, but you don't have to hate them, and when people do, shipping is the only logical reason for doing so.
Some people also dislike Mai, especially after her breakup with Zuko in the Promise Part 2. You people are hating on the wrong person. Yes, I agree that the way she left Zuko was pathetic, but who should you blame for that? Mr. Gene Yang, that's who. You don't have to hate Mai, who has done nothing else wrong, just because of a badly written breakup.
I have also noticed that much of The Legend of Korra's reception is shipping based, which is really, truly pathetic. The series so far should be judged based on things that actually matter, and it seems to be pretty good in that area. If you can find anything about the Legend of Korra that makes the overall series horrible, then please let me know in the comments.
Asami was not 'too clingy or possessive' and Mako was not a 'heartless jerk'. Granted, he did lose his coolness around episode 5, he is still not a bad character simply, because of shipping and neither is Asami.
Now, there is an easy way we can like all of these characters and The Legend of Korra overall, and that is stop taking shipping so seriously! I mean, if you want to have a favorite pair, that's fine, but this unnecessary drama needs to stop. Shipping could not matter less and could not be less relevant to the show.
Well, that's my opinion, folks! Wanna leave yours? Go ahead!
