I know that there have been blogs about the recent Korra news but I just want to talk about the name change (The Last Airbender: Legend Of Korra). This isn't 100% confirmed, but the Wall Street Journal sort of said it was. I'm going to wait for another source before jumping to conclusions, but if this was the new name, why would they change it?
First of all, it doesn't make sense because we have Korra and Tenzin who are airbenders so there isn't a last airbender anymore. There are two reasons why I think that this name change occured.
1. James Cameron's Avatar - This is the reason why The Last Airbender didn't have the word Avatar in the title, so he probably told Nick to change the title so there wouldn't be confusion between our Avatar and his Avatar.
Opinion: James Cameron has no right to do this. He doesn't own the word. I don't care how much money or how popular his movie is, he doesn't own the word 'Avatar'.
Edit: Okay, he does own the word, (he trademarked it) but I think that's really selfish. Since he didn't invent the word, it's not fair to trademark it, especially when there is another project using it. I know that he came up with the idea for his Avatar first (in 1995 or 1996). I wish that Viacom would've trademarked the name first, then this problem wouldn't be happening (James Cameron should have just his movie named Pandora or Navi'. It makes more sense). I'm pretty sure that this is the reason why the name change happened.
2. Nick wants to tie it in with The Last Airbender. The movie did pretty good at the box office, especially considering the terrible reviews it got. This movie is the reason why we got the Legend Of Korra. Nick wants people who liked the movie to see the series by calling it The Last Airbender.
Opinion: NO! I don't want to be reminded of the terrible movie (In my opinion, it was terrible). And, as mentioned above, it doesn't make any sense. The series is called Avatar.
What do you think about the name change? Do you like it or not?
Edit: I think this is the new, (sadly) but I'm still going to call it Avatar: Legend Of Korra or A:LOK or just LOK. The good thing is that this one decrease the show's quality at all. So, I can't wait for The Last Airbender: Legend Of Korra (such a long name and I hate James Cameron for what he did)!
P.S. Please check out my other blog, Avatar The Last Airbender: Through The Years. It's about Avatar's history from 2005- 2012.
