Usami is a waitress that works at Ping's Place, and was Pathik's best friend while he was living in Ba Sing Se. She used to live with her cousins in Gaoling. During the Dragon of the West's attack on the capital, Usami ran to the palace with all the other citizens for protection. As she passed Pathik on the streets and saw him running the other way, she tried to stop him. He pretended to go with her to the palace, but instead ran away when they were in the middle of the crowd. She went to the palace with the rest of the citizens after searching for Pathik, to no avail.
