The Ultimation was a war machine with various elemental abilities that was created by the mechanist Lian.
Once Team Avatar arrived at the fortress where Lian was located, the latter summoned the missing benders the team had been searching for, who willingly aided her by powering the "Ultimation", her most powerful invention yet.
Team Avatar's united attacks managed to put down the machine, but when Avatar Aang became distracted, the Ultimation attempted to attack him from behind. Katara stepped in its path to protect Aang but was struck by the Ultimation, rendering her unconscious. Enraged, Aang went into the Avatar State and easily destroyed the machine, causing it to topple over Lian.
The Ultimation was a large gray-black machine, with a single glass eye within a yellow gear. It had two treads that serve as legs and four arms, each specialized in controlling one of the four elements. The airbending arm was a windmill that could project air in the shape of small tornadoes; the waterbending arm was a gun-like attachment that shot continuous flows of ice; the earthbending arm was a saw-like component capable of creating earthquakes; and the firebending arm, which was similar to a welding torch, projected heat beams.
