How did you guys solve the problem of the badge transparency going wonky? If you go to tardis:Special:Leaderboard, you can see that some of our badges have a black background. Others don't, and there's apparently no pattern to it. But your badges have retained their transparency after the MW 1.19 upgrade. What's your secret?
Oh… hm. Well in that case then I may try and re-upload those pictures, or ask other users to see if its just your problem or theres, because I didn't see any problems with it when I clicked on the link…
I've got an open issue with Wikia staff on this issue, so I'm trying to gather precise details to help with troubleshooting. When you say, ATFF, that "you've never had that problem here", are you saying that you did not re-upload the images after the MW 1.19 upgrade?
And when you say that you noticed no issues when you visited tardis:Special:Leaderboard, are you actually saying you saw no black backgrounds on any badges?
This is an extraordinary statement that none of the other testers of this bug have reported. What browser/operating system are you using? Could I prevail upon you to go to tardis:user:CzechOut, expand the window showing all my badges, and then take a screenshot?
Thanks for your help, and for all the responses to this thread.
I didn't look through all of the badges, but I did look through a few, which seemed like they had not been updated since they were first uploaded in 2010.
Yeah, that's my conclusion as well, but like you, I didn't look through all your badge files here.
I'm still very interested in your perception of w:c:tardis, though. Are you really seeing no black backgrounds there? If so, please give details of your browser and operating system. Also, a screenshot of what you're seeing would be most helpful to diagnosis. Thanks. :)
No, I'm glad you do. If you weren't able to see it, there'd be another dimension to the problem. Anyway, Wikia got back in touch with me to explain it was an error on their end. While it can be solved by simply uploading the pictures again in 1.19, they're actually trying to solve the errors the system made. Apparently, .jpgs were sometimes temporarily created beneath the surface in the upload process. This wasn't a problem in MW 1.16, because the files ultimately were posted as .pngs, thus allowing the transparency to return. But 1.19 seems to be taking the very first form of the files — which in some cases were these "temporary .jpgs". Hence, there are black backgrounds, because there are no alpha channels in .jpgs.
