  • It has been a long time since the last tme I posted here.

I just wanted to add a question to the forum

I have been thinking about how a rpg of the avatar world would be. I think it would be interesting to set the world during the Kyoshi era, because I prefer to see the world how it was back then without the technology we have in Avatar: the last airbender and Legend of Korra. I have been thinking about how the bending would be implemented along with the specialized bending techniques

I decided that we would need to have the same amount of specialized bending techniques for every element, and every bending technique would need to have a difficult level, having the same amount of techniques of the same level in every element.

This said, I think we would need to differentiate what can be classified as specialized bending technique and what may not be classified or may not exactly have the need to be classified as one.

    The techniques would be:

    For air:

-Easy: sound bending (the creators said (I think I read that somewehere) that sound bending existed before the 100 year war)

-Medium (by medium I mean that you need to achieve some mental state to do it, like with lightning you need to have peace of mind): spiritual proyection (you need to have some connection with your spiritual side. I know in Lok it looks like really difficult because only Jinora can do it, but for the sake of the game we will say it's like lightning)

    -Hard: flight

    For water:

    -Easy: Healing

-Medium: spirit bending (for the sake of the game)

    -Difficult: bloodbending obviously

I didn't count plantbending because it is basically moving the water of the plants, I know it's classified as a sub bending style, but having only 3 and being plantbending considered easy I would count it as waterbending and not a specialzed technique

    For fire:

    -Easy: lightning redirection

-Medium: lightning (I know in Lok it looks like it is easy, but I will stay with the difficulty level they give it in Atla)

    -Difficult: combustion

    For earth:

-Easy: seismic sense (I know only a few know this technique, but I want to believe it's because they don't really need to learn it since most of the people can see perfectly. And remember how hard was for Aang to learn earthbending and still he was able to learn this, so I don't think we can classify seismic sense as medium)

-Medium: lavabending (Why not metalbending? Well, I know there are a lot of metalbenders in lok (1 in every 100 earthbenders) but in 10.000 years people have tried (I believe they had) to bend metal (see how they tell Toph: "even you can't bend metal", looks like people already considered that possibility and still failed, only Toph learned metalbending but she is the best earthbender in the world) and in 70 years from it's "discovery" already 1% of the earthbenders can bend metal? Doesn't sound right to me. In fact, I really dislike that idea, really. There are a lot of bending issues in Lok that I don't like so I want to stay as far from them as possible, but of course some people may not agree with me and like the idea of metalbending being easier and they may feel the need to explain me why it is easy. Before you do that, no need to explain anything. I'm sure there are explanations out there, that's nothing new. Still, I like the idea of metalbending being considered a difficult bending technique, and since we already see a few lavabenders in atla, I like the idea of lavabending being easier than metalbending. I know in lok it is the other way so if you like the idea of lava-difficult metal-medium I respect your opinion, please no need to explain anything)

    -Difficult: metalbending

I'm already open to the idea of adding more techniques to the specialized bending category, but adding 1 more in 1 one the elements would mean we need to add 1 more for every other element with the same difficulty level.

    One example would be:

    Air:

    Easy: sound bending

    Medium-easy: spiritual proyection

    Medium-hard: flight or suffocation

Difficult: suffocation or flight (I can't decide)

    Water:

    Easy: plant bending

    Medium-easy: healing

    Medium-hard: spirit bending

    Difficult: blood bending

    Fire:

    Easy: lightning redirection

    Medium-easy: heat redirection

    Medium-hard: lightning

    Didficult: combustion

    Earth:

    Easy: seismic sense

Medium-easy: sand bending (Why sand bending if it's basically earth? Well, bloodbending is basically water too, and it's not like it is easy)

    Medium-hard: lava bending

    Difficult: metalbending

We can add more like: energy reading, hyper sesitivity, lying detection or water sensitivity? (Like when Katara "sensed" how Rohan was going to be a powerful airbender) But again, we would need to change the chart again.

I also like the idea of some bending techniques being shared with other elements like: heat (fire-air), mud (water-earth), clouds (water-air) and lava (fire-earth). But that also means we have to change the chart again.

I would really like to make like a long chart with all the techniques above categorized as "special" and each one with a difficulty level and the same number in every element, but I feel it's going to be really hard.

    What do you think?

    • Now you may ask: but adding metalbending and bloodbending to the game isn't breaking the lore? Well yes, so maybe we should fix that somehow. Maybe we should take down the difficult ones in the first chart. Any ideas how we may do this? We can also set the game in the Korra era, but I don't like that idea. We can also make the game non-canonical.

    • Isn't there already a game like this? I mean, in minecraft there are a ton of roleplaying servers for every theme, and sure you can find something related to the Legend of Korra or The Last Airbender, if you are not a big fan of lego or building games like me, make sure to check our Garry's Mod many roleplaying 'servers?'. I personally played in many of them  and if you don't really like how they built it or whatever, just make your own.

Wtf, are you triggered by my post? No, I didn't know they existed, so? "Just make your own" wow, that's childish. Seriously, where did that come from?

        Loading editor
    • I'm sure they dudn't meant that as offense.

What other stuff could we do in such a game? How would character creation look like and house building or anything else?

    • I'm sorry if it offended you. As Hunprincess guessed, I really didn't try to offend anyone, and I am surprised you are. I just said that instead of just thinking of an avatar themed role play game, you can make it come true without a university degree in programming. When I said Just make your own, I meant that often the admins of those maps add whatever stuff they want and mix everything and if you don't really like that type of maps, you can easily create one that you like. Sorry again that it offended you so bad, but you should really try Garry's Mod it's awesome! It costs like 20$ on steam but if you want to play online with your friends on your own custom map you won't repent (admins please don't ban me this is not spam or marketing, just a suggestion :D)

      Something like this

    • It's ok, no need to say sorry.

Can somebody explain me where did my super long respond go?

    • I was responding to Hunprincess and my answer just dissapeared 😠😠😠😠😠

    • The response was like super long and I don't remember everything I said basically because I resumed the whole game so I'm just gonna focus on the questions you made.

So, as I was saying, depending on which nation you choose to play you will have different hair styles, clothes, accessories and hair, skin and eye colors... you can choose. You will be able to change a little bit the face but that's gonna be the same for every nation.

For the house creation I had two options in mind: the one in the individual-story telling mode (in which you can have dialogue options that will change the ending), and the multiplayer mode. In the story mode it's easy: they will give you a house and you will customize it as you want, make it bigger, smaller... In the multiplayer it's going to be harder. They will give you a house, but it's going to be the same house to everybody. When you enter the door you will enter to YOUR house. So maybe two people entering through the door doesn't mean they are entering to the same house. You will be able to change the inside, but not the outside. I think it would be interesting to have both options: to play online and offline

You will have different minigames and puzzles depending on your element and the nation you are in. For example a minigame would be penguin sledding, playing with the delivery system of Omashu, training your pet, cooking, riding your mount, challenging someone to an agni kai, entering an earthbending tournamemt, exploring the sea bottom using waterbending, flying with your glider... and other air nomad, water tribe, earth kingdom and fire nation sports and games

        Loading editor
    • You will start in different starting zones depending on your nation.

For water tribe: southern water tribe.

For fire nation: a random fire nation village.

For earth kingdom: an earth kingdom village.

For air nomads: depending on you sex you choosed you will be: southern air temple for boys and western air temple for girls.

In your starting zone they will give you a brief introduction to your people, you culture, history, life-style, habits... They will give you missions, quests... that reflect the nation you are in. They will teach you basic bending and give you the freedom to explore the zone. Once you do this they will give you the option to travel to a second zone where they will give you more of the same.

In the air nomads: if you are a boy you will go to the northern air temple or the western air temple (I can't decide) and if you are a girl to the eastern air temple or the southern air temple.

For water tribe: the northern water tribe.

For fire nation: the capital city.

For earth kingdom: ba sing se.

Once you do this you will be able to explore the rest of the world as you want.

The game will be filled with references to the series for what will happen in the future, along with jokes and people we already know. Some missions will tell you unique stories about their citizens and others will be part of the main story. This missions will show you the culture, traditions, history and life-style of each nation.

    • From my computer instead of that answer I see a sign saying This answer has been removed. Maybe you violated forum rules?

    • No... I don't think so. I send the respond but just didn't appear. I don't see any "this comment has been removed", just the first one, but I removed that one.

    • There's an error that sometimes makes posts fail to send, & the only way to solve it is to refresh & send the post again. That's why I copy everything I say before I send it.

    • Yeah, I shouls have copied it

    • So it would be similar to a 3D chat? That would be awesome! Like the late PetPet Park ... It could have seasonal events.

    • I was thinking about something more like Zelda: breath of the wild but online, with some dynamics of online rpg games like World of Warcraft. Although I REALLY dislike the idea of this being a game of: go there, kill stuff, gain money, repait process.

I would implement the battle system to attract the attention of the game community, but not make it the focus of the game. This game would be about exploring, about easter eggs, minigames, puzzles and interacting with other characters, players and the world. You will have the oportunity to fight other players and/or fight dangerous wild animals/bandits/pirates.. or NPCs in certain circumstances.

    • What makes you think that Metalbending is harder than Lavabending? Metalbending is about to bend the earth that still remains inside the metal, it is still earth, just a really small amount of it and you can't bend it with total freedom, Lavabending is about making the earth molecules vibrate so fast that they will generate heat, the Lava bender has to generate enough heat by vibrating them to get the earth to be at least at 1,292 ºF so it can become lava, and then you have to bend it, wich is also hard because if you watched avatar you know that the moves that they use to bend a solid element and the ones they use to bend liquid is totally different, so the lavabender also has to train his moves so he can bend lava.

      I already explained this

Following that logic it's easy to spot why lavabending is easier than metalbending, being lavabending the equivalent of icebending and metalbending, being the particles of earth microscopic, the equivalent of taking water out of the air. You have to open your mind. What Hama told Katara is pretty much what Toph did. Edit: and also what Su told Korra
