  • Is Spiritual Projection really an Airbending Technique only? I mean, I know that a technique doesn't require to bend the air itself to be an Airbending Subskill since airbenders can fly or rather levitate - and I'm quite sure that this is only able for airbenders. But Spiritual Projection is more a technique that requires a high spiritual level than a mastering of Airbending. Since Airbenders are naturally highly spiritual (maybe they aren't so spiritual anymore since they have become the Air Acolytes) but that doesn't mean they are the only ones who can master spiritual skills. A spiritual skill which is only able to achieve for one element is Spiritbending, but this actually requires water, whereas Spiritual Projection doesn't require one of the elements at all.

    So what do you think?

PS: I know that in In Harm's Way (or another episode - Edit: It was in this episode) Jinora said that it is a complex airbending trick. But as we all know, the people in the Avatar World don't always know everything about their bending, because Metalbending was thought to be impossible for a long time, or Lavabending was thought to only be able for the avatar.

    • Well, Jinora is the only non-Avatar character we see that's able to project her spirit. The simple fact that she, a very well-read and studied person, says it's a complex airbending technique seems to indicate that, at least until canon states otherwise, that only people capable of airbending can do spiritual projection.

She is indeed very well-read, but as I said, until Toph the entire world thought that Metalbending was impossible, including the professors of the Ba Sing Se University itself. And since she is the only person capable of doing Spiritual Projection, she has no evidence for her opinion being wrong

    • Maybe another reason it's considered an Airbending move is because it allows one's spirit ot fly or levitate.
