  • I just finished reading Smoke and Shadow Part 3 and I couldn't find any information or theories about who was the first Fire Lord's most trusted adviser. That's what Azula says when she went with Zuko into the Lion-Turtle shape crypt.

    Any ideas?

I think it could be Avatar Wan's crypt; but I'm not pretty sure. What do you think?

    • I'm pretty sure it is just an unnamed fire nation noble. It wouldnt make much sense for it to be wan.

    • Considering that the first Fire Lord was a Fire Sage, it's is likely another Fire Sage.

It's most likely this way. The fire sages would have never let him be the Fire Lord unless a couple of other sages stood behind him.

Is that still considered canon? The story in Smoke and Shadow Part 3 doesnt seem to indicate that the fire lord was one of the fire sages.

Here on the Wiki, due to the comics, it says that at first there was a certain Fire Lord, and after his regime had collapsed, one of the Fire Sages proclaimed the title of the Fire Lord. So the really first Fire Lord was seemingly not a Fire Sage, but the first one of the current blood line was one.

    • As far as I know, there's no basis for that speculation, except for as an ad hoc solution to the problem. There's nothing specifically disproving that the First Fire Lord was a Fire Sage, he's never said to not have been that. That said, there's also nothing saying that it was not retconned.

I guess, though if the intention was to make the first fire lord from smoke and shadow the head of the fire sages its kind of odd that isnt noted, or at least have what appear to be fire sages behind him.

Though I guess its just something worth asking mike and bryan about.

    • Wouldn't be the first time they omitted major backstory. We only know about the Bhanti, AKA the origin of every nation's sages that dates back to the era of Wan, because Mike shared the script for Beginnings.
