  • As we know, all air nomads, including females, get air nomad tattoos when they master air bending. Male nomads have their entires head shaved off whereas females on have the front half shaved off. Since the An have died off, will Ikki and Jinora be required to shave their heads. Will they even want to.

      Loading editor
    • they haven't master airbending yet and they haven't got there air bending arrows yet too. so no.

        Loading editor
    • For now, no since neither if them have mastered Airbending. But when they do master it then yeah, they're gonna have to shave half their head and get their arrows.

        Loading editor
    • There was no implication of Ikki or Jinora that they don't like the idea of having tattoos or shaving their heads. As the only surviving airbenders, they should, but again, they seem to embrace their Air Nomad heritage, making your question a non-issue. :)

        Loading editor
    • I think with current events they would and I think it's something, especially Jinora, they are aiming for. With the introduction of the new Airbenders obviously the culture will be different. So if any of the females gain mastery and get their tattoos maybe they'll choose whether to shave the front of their head or not. They're still visable on the hands, back, arms and legs

    • Well, in order to have the tattoo applied and to get the tattoo, yes, they would have to shave their heads...I see absolutely no reason why either of them would leave their heads shaved all of the time or for good, especially when the female Air Nomads didn't do that to begin with. But the answer to your question is kind of yes...if they're even going to get the airbender tattoo on their head they would need to shave it to have the tattoo applied.

    • I agree

        Loading editor
    • I hope not tbh

        Loading editor
    • Aang's arrow was still partly visible even with hair. Thus the headband worn while sneaking through the fire nation. So it may end up being optional since the whole purpose of the shaved head seemed to be about making the arrow more clearly seen

She will have her tattoos maybe but I don't think she will shave her hair, She will cut it from the forward

        Loading editor
    • I really don't wanna see her head shaved at all. Just make the arrow a little more prominent and longer past her forehead. She has really nice hair. Besides, I doubt cutting her hair from the front would make a difference. In "Original Airbenders" the new airbender felt the wind on the back, of his head.

        Loading editor
    • We've never actually got to see any female airbender apart from Yangchen with their master tattoos I believe so maybe it vary's per individual?

        Loading editor
    • That's a point. The show will add another layer because we didn't have much action from the other female air benders. Jinora and Ikki would be cool with tattoos. A little weird at first but still cool.

        Loading editor
    • They would have to shave temporaraly to have the tatoo placed.

    • Jinora's eerie resemblance to her grandfather was all the more pronounced with her head shaved.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, Aang came to mind when I saw her shaved head. I feel like the final season will be the time where Jinora is sort of leading the Air Nation and Tenzin will be counceling it alongside his daughter. I just hope in the final season, since the master tattoos are now there, I hope we see more fights so we can explore what Kai said when he was talking about Jinora being able to do everything her dad can do.

        Loading editor
    • I'm wondering if she'll have her hair back for Season 4, I mean obviously she would have to have it shaved to get her tattoos but as Tenzin said it is a personal choice.

        Loading editor
    • I hope and think it will grow.

        Loading editor
    • Bring back Jinora's hair please...or atleast give her a ponytail she doesnt look the same....

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I don't really like Jinora fully bald.

        Loading editor
    • It will probably grow back unless repeatedly shaven. Aang's did.

        Loading editor
    • Considering that Aang's hair grew back to a normal boy's hair length in 3 weeks, I'm guessing it'll take 6-7 weeks for Jinora's hair to grow back to normal.

        Loading editor
    • maybe in season 4 we'll see jinora witha a new hairstyle with the arrow tattoo.

i think the reason she's bald in last episode because she need to be bald to put on the tattoo.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah

        Loading editor
    • I think since Jinora is younger than Aang and most adult women, her hair amount is smaller, so when it does grow back, we won't be looking at hair like Yangchen's. The creators probably want a more smooth change for the audience to digest to.

        Loading editor
    • All I could think when I saw Jinora with the new tattoos for the first time was "if her eyes were gray rather than brown, she would look just like Aang." I hope she grows her hair back but given the time scale involved she may look like she has a 'pixie style' cut by season 4. No matter what, it's going to be a bit short for a while.

Yes, she was. No one cares about a year's or a few months difference when we're talking about hair.

Something like Tenzin teaching the kids how to tatoo (it is probable that only Tenzin would know the tattoo technique and history, etc..).. Tenzin (or Jinora) could even tell about the transition from that older tattoo pattern to the current tattoo design.. :)..

    • Personally I think they should stop with the Air Nomad tattoos if the Air Nation is going to start engaging with conflict, have Tenzins children be the last to get them upon becoming masters as they were born into the culture.

An major combat stratagy is to know your opponent. Having arrow tattoos on yourself give away you are an master. Other nations never needed to show some indication of mastery

LOL. I think Tenzin only does that to limit the earthly possession thing. See, he thinks probably with the one outfit, they won't have attachments to other clothing styles. I think we're all overthinking this a little.

Yeah, it'd be a nice deviation from the arbitrary cultural norm of women having long hair. And personally, I'd prefer it over the traditional half-shaven-half-long-hair look. It made the female Air Nomads look like they were balding. >.> (Though I guess our dislike for a balding look is also largely just an arbitrary cultural standard.)

The "crescent tonsure," which seems to be something of a fanon name for it, seemed to be more common at least from Yangchen's era on.  But it remains that there is precedent for female airbending masters to keep their heads entirely shaved.  (And I'm hoping that we'll see some of both.)

    • As we have seen, YES, they will shave their hair and Jinora was quite excited to I might say, I think shaving your hair for the first time weather your male or female is a liberating kind of thing and makes you feel some new good emotions- which I know because I shave my hair currently. I dont know if Ikki will want to but if she is to become an airbending master she will have to.
