  • His Appearance In Legand Of Korra Raises some Questions, And Perhaps a Future Plot, Even If it is just A Cameo. 1: Why Did Zhao Go To the spirt world? 2: What Would Happen If He noticed when Tenzin Did And Escape The Fog? 3: What If 2 Is Correct and he Causes Trouble In The spirt world?

    • It doesn't raise questions rather than answer one that the old series brought up. When La pulled Zhao into the water following the Koizilla rampage in "The Siege of the North, Part 2", his fate remained generally ambiguous. He could've simply drowned, he could've been brought into the Spirit World, or he could've somehow made his way back into the Avatar World (reference to this great non-canon piece of work).

His appearance this time around clears up that he was in fact brought into the Spirit World to be imprisoned in the Fog of Lost Souls for eternity as punishment for killing Tui. And considering how incoherent he was when Tenzin found him, he wouldn't have been able to see him depart the fog, much less have been able to escape it himself.

    • He probably drowned, & then was dragged into the Spirit World. He seems older, but not 70 years older. It seems unlikely that this would be the case if he were still in his physical body.

Actually, this does raise a question of how Hei Bai worked. If the Spirit Portals were supposed to be the ONLY way for a human to PHYSICALLY enter the Spirit World, then what happened to Sokka et al's bodies when Hei Bai took them?

    • I think they [writers] just wanted a cameo of an older villain for a nice touch¬†instead of thinking about the the problems it raises. It gave me the same reaction with Iroh: OH! That's nice! Is he really needed?

I think there are other ways to enter.

    • Greater spirits and do seem to have a way to go back and forth seemingly easily. Powerful enough to overcome certain limitations.

    • who knows what would happen if Zhao were to escape, he must soon realize Aang is long dead, Izumi is Fire Lord, and Korra is Avatar.

    • 1. La pulled him into the spirit world

      2. He's completely lost his mind; he's never getting out. Besides, Tenzin only got out because Aang helped him.

      3. He's too far gone to do any harm now

    • The question is, if someone gets out of that place, can someone regain consciousnes?

    • Well, yes, probably; Kya and Bumi were fine once Tenzin got them out. But I doubt anyone there would be bale to get out without help

    • It would be interesting to see Zhao eventually wander out of there, return to the mortal world, and see how much it has changed. He might hold a personal, deep hatred for both Zuko and Aang, but seeing as they'd all be dead at that point (Zuko doesn't have that many years left), he'd probably try to kill Izumi and Tenzin.
