Template talk:Avatar1

From Avatar Wiki, the Avatar: The Last Airbender database

I made this Template Painstakingly. I took aid from FFXII Template but the rest was my sweat and blood. I ask that you add data but do not change the Format of the Template. Ask me to do that and I will decide whether it is worth changing. Thank You. Zero 04:22, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Changes in Format

Sooo. Any Ideas for Particular Changes in Format? Dont be shy. Zero 05:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Well on Wikipedia they give you the choice to hide the navigation boxes or not. I just feel like it is TOO big. Greekpimp 09:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I second that. Omnibender 21:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Well I'll try to incorporate that into the template but I might not know How. So dont be too disappointed if I am unable. By the way, I thought of it too but had dismissed it since the Nav Box would be closing every other minute but OK. Zero 07:06, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I tried but I couldnt figure it out if any of you guys find out how to do it please paste the code and the instructions here. I'll apply them. By the way this is not Wikipedia and on Wikis we try to make sure that the nav boxes encompass most if not all the topics a viewer might want to jump directly to. Thank You. Zero 07:45, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Would it be better to alphabetize the games? I know, I'm an organization freak. Omnibender 16:13, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

No. It doesnt matter if you alphabetize the games.Zero 03:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I don't know anything about coding and stuff like that, but I found Template:Hidden, which I think will help someone who understands coding so we can make the template collapsible. Maybe you can work something out ChaosMaster16? Omnibender 02:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I'll look into it. Zero 11:07, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, wait a minute! This is on wikipedia. I tried to copy wikipedia's Avatar template word for word but for some reason it didn't work properly. All I got on page was what was wriiten in code form. No tables, nada. Sorry but I do'nt think this will work. Wikipedia and wikia codes seem slightly different to me in this regard. Sorry. Zero 11:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Let's wait ChaosMaster16, he understands more about coding. Omnibender 13:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

An admin needs to copy some code from http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js into this wiki's MediaWiki:Common.js page, in order for the "collapsible"ness to work. Who's an admin here that can do this? Rob 09:20, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I can but I just dont know what to do. Tell me. Zero 06:35, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid I can't work that, my code skills are less than zero. Omnibender 16:09, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I can make the template collapsible, but first like Tryforceful said, I put the directions on Omnibenders page, and an admin needs to do that first.. thanks.Joeyaa 13:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC) There you guys go, I got a janitor to add the pages I needed and now it is collapsable. Joeyaa 14:12, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Great Work. Now if only we could add an edit tag just like the show/hide tag. - Zero - Talk 13:18, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay Zero, if you want that, I did it, here is what I did, and if you want it, just copy in those codes for each template and that's it, thanks. Joeyaa 16:44, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

You can do it. You deserve to, since it was you who found out how to do it. - Zero - Talk 19:01, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey Zero, just for the future, if you want to add the coding for it to other things too here is the code and just fill in the spots with caps, oh and I did it now so there, how does it look, thanks and here is the code:

<span style="float:INSERT THE SIDE HERE;" class="plainlinks">[{{fullurl:INSERT FULL PAGE NAME HERE|action=edit}} edit]</span>

Joeyaa 19:14, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. - Zero - Talk 08:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I cant access the movie and games template from my university computers. can someone replace the code stated above with this one:

<span style="float:left;" class="plainlinks"><font style="font-size:10px; font-family:tahoma;"> [[INSERT FULL PAGE NAME HERE|v]] - [{{fullurl:INSERT FULL PAGE NAME HERE}} e] - [[INSERT FULL TALK PAGE NAME HERE|d]]</font></span>

Thank you. - Zero - Talk 07:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

A long line of ???????? means that you guys can enter links here but only two ? (ie: ??) means that it is still to be confirmed by Nick. Zero 06:20, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Can we use this great Template for a german Wiki about Avatar? --217.231.231.80 11:55, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Why not? All you have to do is translate the articles. Omnibender 16:59, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Breaking Down

This Template is really getting big. Maybe I should break it down into smaller templates with links back to the Main Thing and vice versa? What do you guys say? Zero - Talk 07:47, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I've broken down the template into smaller templates and placed them here in this Template. I hope everyone will like the new collapsible Template with collapsable sections. Zero - Talk 16:47, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Protection

If the main template is protected, shouldn't the ones in it be protected as well? Omnibender - Talk 22:49, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

The main template is protected so that nobody without the proper authorization level can remove whole sections. A single mistake in the sub template reference codes can ruin a lot. The sub templates dont need that since more links can be added to them. Something that the main template does not need. - Zero - Talk 15:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Can't we just protect them to at least to autoconfirms, IPs tend to add and change the arrangements, and add or change important elements of it without any discussion. Joey - Talk 07:22, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

I've suggested that, if no one objects, I'll protect it against IPs. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 18:57, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template Inclusion

Here's a question, exactly what type of pages should this template be on? I'd assume everything relevant to the template's content, in-universe stuff like benders, bending-related things, and all the other things on here, but is this correct? I want to get a good idea. Joey - Talk Contribs 03:07, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Since this Template is the Main Nav Template. It should be on all Article Pages, excluding Talk Pages, Templates, Forums, etc. It doesn't really matter if the link to the page is included in the Nav Template or not. This will ensure proper Navigation ability. Thus improving the overall rating of our wiki. - Zero - Talk 09:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, we should do that. The 888th Avatar - Talk 09:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Characters Template

[edit] Combustion Man

Combustion man doesn't belong in major secondary characters. Only one season, and very little air time to be honest. Sure, he played an important part, but not on the same level as the others in that category. Long feng and Zhao are also kind of iffy. My idea of a major secondary would be decent air time in at least two seasons. 99.231.30.49 00:18, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Long Feng and Zhao were important characters who had a great impact on the plot, they are major secondary characters. If screentime alone was criteria for this, Ozai would be a minor character. Omnibender 01:40, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't matter that much but he did play an important role in helping Zuko join the Avatar. And he was a powerful enemy for the Gaang. As such he deserves a spot.Zero 04:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

No, he doesn't. He never said a single word, there wasn't a single reference to him after his death, and he only appeared in a few episodes, purely to do some battle. He belongs in Minor Secondary Characters. He did very little at all and is very unimportant in the overall scheme of season 3. 70.18.219.118

Actions say much more than words, and he was mentioned again in The Ember Island Players, he was the gang's main enemy during the first half of the series (much like Zhao during most of season one and Long Feng during half of season two), and had a pivotal role in getting Zuko into the group, if that's not important I don't know what is. Omnibender 00:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I concurr. Zero 05:21, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

CM was not the group's main enemy at all. They didn't really have a main enemy in the first half. He just occasionally showed up. His importance was nothing compared to that of Long Feng and Zhao. Zhao acted as a rival to Zuko throughout season 1, nearly destroyed the Northern Water Tribe, and was overall a significant enemy of Aang's. Long Feng was responsible for keeping the war from the king and stopping Ba Sing Se for intervening, was responsible for Jet's death, was responsible for capturing Appa in the city, and played a major role in the season 2 finale. CM just occasionally attacked the group for a minute to a couple minutes, before they escaped or he died. No information about him at all, no major plot impact. Really just a convenient and barely used plot device. He also barely interacts with other characters. Odds are Zuko could have joined the gang without CM ever existing. His importance simply cannot be established. If he is major, then characters like Xin Fu, Master Yu, Piandao, the Mechanist, and Guru Pathik are major. They aren't. They all played a role in some way similar to CM's: convenient plot devices, except they are more important. I also think that Bato may or may not have earned a spot. But overall, CM's importance is way overhyped. 68.175.105.134 21:40, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Dude this conversation ended a while ago... Scott (Lets Chat) 22:05, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah. Its been decided. If it werent for Combustion Mans attack on Aang in the Western Air Temple. The Gaang might never have trusted Zuko. He deserved the spot. So... Lay off. Zero - Talk 10:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious: Who decided? 2 people are for him being major and two aren't. Key word in your argument is "might." I've a request: Show how, in comparison to others on the Major Secondary Characters list like Long Feng, Admiral Zhao, and Jet, he is important. It cannot be denied that they play a greater role than he does. 68.175.105.134 01:40, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Regular, registered, and committed editors whose additions to the Wikia can be verified, and hence weight a lot more than a non registered member contributions. We're not saying that the characters you listed are lesser than CM, they did have a stronger, more noticeable impact on the series, we're not denying it, we're just saying that while his participation on the series wasn't as big as theirs, CM had a strong enough effect on the plot, and therefore in the series as a whole to be listed as a major secondary character. Simple as that. Omnibender 22:54, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Combustion Man is a Major Secondary Character

[edit] Ursa

Am I the only one who feels that while Ursa is a minor secondary character, she should be moved up in the section? Omnibender - Talk 15:05, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Ursa's Impact on Zuko is too great, in my opinion, she should definately be moved up. But if the others think differently then I have no objections. - Zero - Talk 15:26, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Since no one seems to think differently then I'll move it up if not stopped in the next 24 hours. - Zero - Talk 09:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Suki

An Anon changed the avatar characters template to have suki as a main character, although she does show up in all three seasons, the amount of episodes she's in is somewhat blurry. What do you guys think? Should she be a main character? I want to hear opinions before undoing. Joey - Talk 00:23, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

It has already been decided that, while Suki was a member of the Gaang through the last part of book 3, and she did make appearances throughout all three seasons, she does not have enough significant character development to qualify her as a main character.

Sorry, I rolled back the edit before I saw this addition to the talk page.Puragus - Talk 00:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Suki had a significant impact on the plot, she did appear in all seasons, but her role in the series as a whole is not enough for her to be a main character. Omnibender - Talk 00:51, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Ya, I completely agree with both of you, when I saw the edit it kind of made me think al ittle, and I didn't get to see the discussion about her being a main character before, so thanks for the clarification. Joey - Talk 00:56, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Omni, Are you saying that she should be in the main character's section? (Your sentence is confusing, that "but" contradicts everything else you're saying).

If that is what you're saying, I disagree. Not to say that she didn't contribute anything, but she didn't contribute significantly to the plot any more than other characters in the Major secondary characters section. Puragus - Talk 00:58, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I think what he was trying to say was that she was in all three seasons, and had a relatively large impact on some characters and on the plot, but her lack of air time is why she is not a main character, or at least that is what I got out of it, thanks. Joey - Talk 01:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I kind of thought that too, but I'm still not sure. Puragus - Talk 03:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

If Mai and Ty Lee are secondaries, then so is Suki. - Zero - Talk 05:00, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

There was a "not" missing in my previous comment, it's been added a couple days ago, but in case it's still confusing, I don't think Suki qualifies as a main character. Major secondary, that's what she is. Omnibender - Talk 21:47, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, that clears it up. Thanks. Puragus - Talk 23:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gyatso

I can see why Ursa is a "Major Secondary Character", even though her appearance in the series is a little short, but I don't think you can make a good case for Gyatso being up there. Sure, he is important to Aang's development, but not by that much, considering Aang puts his guilt and sadness over his death behind him fairly quickly. Gyatso is barely mentioned in the series at all, and there are no major stories for him. I don't think he was developed enough, or had enough impact on the series to constitute being a Major Secondary Character. Puragus Talk 16:46, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

I agree with Puragus, Gyatso can be moved to minor secondary characters. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 18:57, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

So, I'll move it in about 24 hours (probably a little later, but approximately tomorrow), if no one objects before then. Puragus Talk 03:47, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Avatar Universe Template

[edit] Bison Polo

Guys. We need a Bison Polo Page. Zero - Talk 16:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Problem is, we don't know anything about it other than it exists and that is was played in one of the air temples. Omnibender 16:57, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Use the rules from real-life polo but instead adopt it to flying bisons and 3-D PLaying. Zero - Talk 17:06, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for making the page, Joeyaa. - Zero - Talk 10:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Your welcome. Joeyaa 16:49, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Idea

How about if we color code the links in the Avatar Universe Template as follows giving their basic affiliations.

  • Air Nomads
  • Water Tribes
  • Earth Kingdom
  • Fire Nation
  • Spirit
  • Neutral

So... What do you guys think? If you disagree with the color choices then feel free to paste any changes you feel are better. - Zero - Talk 08:43, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I like the idea, but if we do it for the characters, then we need to do it for the episodes, and etc. Joey - Talk 09:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not so sure if this would work, I agree with the purpose though. If this is going to be used, I suggest that we use the same colors we use for the header section of the character infobox templates. Omnibender - Talk 22:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I wasn't talking about the characters or the episodes. I was talking about the Avatar Universe Template. You know coloring according to the type of game, nation, bending, organization, etc. We could leave it be for that alone. The episodes one doesn't need it because their backgrounds have already been color coded. And I doubt that the Characters one needs it. But if you guys want then I could color the Character links. - Zero - Talk 06:43, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

That would require either separating and severely altering the current formatting or just color the links, the last one looks terrible in my mind, not sure about the other way. Omnibender - Talk 22:56, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

The Formatting wouldn't be changed too much. Let me try my hand at it. If it looks too terrible then we can simply undo my changes. How about it? I'm talking about the Avatar Universe Template of course not the characters one. - Zero - Talk 02:57, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I think that since your edits would be viewable on almost every page, that if a single error occurred a lot of trouble would be created. I suggest if your going to tamper with it, I suggest using a sandbox, even feel free to use mine. That way we can easily compare them and make small fixes. Thanks. Joey - Talk 05:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] World of Avatar

Anyone agrees that they should be put in alphabetic order? Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 21:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, we should do that. I just put one on every time one was created, which shouldn't continue. The 888th Avatar - Talk 22:28, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Finale Titles

Until there is any confirmation from a reliable source (Nick, DongbuFeng, ASN...), wouldn't it be better to leave the titles in open? Is it so hard to do? 201.17.77.159 15:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Stay out of this whoever you are. Ive had enough of people like you. There are many reliable sources out there other than the ones you mentioned. Besides I made this template so its none of your concern. (Joke) Stay out of this or taste the end of my Z-Sabre. Zero 20:57, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I only have this Wikias credibility best interest in mind. Omnibender 00:20, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I get it buddy but this wikia is still pretty reliable an by the way all websites are user submitted so there isnt really any really authentic site on the web. The guys on wikipedia didnt believe us on the firebending masters, the boiling rock, etc names and they're eating their hats now.Zero 15:22, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

In that case, we just move the finale pages if they end up having other names. Sounds good to you? Omnibender 16:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Just Delete them, make new ones and revise the links. That'll fix it.Zero 08:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Its great that we now know the Full Finale Titles. But as you can see what we said was part of the truth after all. Never underestimate the reach of the fans of Avatar. Oh Yeah! Thats Right! Uh Huh! Whoo! Zero 06:47, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Games Template

[edit] Question about Addition of Game

If I were to add the page " Avatar: Legends of the Arena" the upcoming Avatar MMORPG, should I add it to the online game section as it is online, or to the console section as it is a page and pc is a console? The online section has all links whilst this is a page, but it is online not specifically on a console, so which one should it be under? Joeyaa 14:07, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Make the article and give us the link. We'll make a new heading and put it under there. How does Massive Multiplayer Online Game sound? Zero - Talk 11:58, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Here is a link to the game: http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Avatar:_Legends_of_the_Arena and the name of the game is Avatar: Legends of the Arena . And ya that title does sound nice, thanks. Joeyaa 23:14, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Woud'nt it be better if you make a new page just for the game and provide this link on that page. Then we can put the link to that page on this template. Put a complete description of the game on that page. And dont worry about the size of content. I've seen pages that are extremely small. Zero - Talk 05:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you know what I meant, I made an article already, and that link goes to the article. I was wondering if you can add that article link to the template. Joeyaa 05:10, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

You dont need to give me the whole address. Just the Page Name will suffice. Thats how internal linking works around here. Zero - Talk 07:21, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

You asked for a linked and I gave you a link, but whatever, so will you add it, I am currently trying to make it (aka the template) collapsible. Thanks. Joeyaa

Done. But be careful. Dont mess it up. Even I couldnt figure out that trick. Zero - Talk 07:28, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help Template

Why is there a April's Fool 2009 link in the template? Omnibender 22:50, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Other Template

New links added. But still needs work. Help would be appreciated. - Zero - Talk 10:37, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Guys. I need help here. - Zero - Talk 08:09, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Hellllllllooooooooooo? Anybody there? I said I need help in the compltetion of the Other Template. - Zero - Talk 09:41, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

What do you need exactly? Omnibender - Talk 19:00, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Look at the above linked tenplate. Its incomplete. I need the names of the comics to be written on it and articles on the comics. They need to be created. Since I dont live in the States. I dont have access to the information. that's where you guys need to come in. At least those that live there and have the comics. Also We need to compile a full list of the Cast of Avatar. - Zero - Talk 04:38, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Well here is a nice link to the cast: http://www.avatarspiritmedia.net/voice_actors.php and it has a lot of the main, and even one/two smaller character voice actors, pick what you want and make it, thanks. Joey - Talk 05:04, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Could you do the honors. I'm a little buzy with my sessionals. - Zero - Talk 06:54, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Focus on the Main Characters and Major Secondary Characters. What about the comics? - Zero - Talk 06:55, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

If it is the comics from the Nick magazines, the summaries for some of them are available at Avatar Comics, there's a link the site where you can read them at nick's Avatar site, just go on the main page and wait until the bottom shows "new comics every week" or something like that. If you're talking about the DVD ones, there's nothing I can do. Omnibender - Talk 16:55, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Both would be good. - Zero - Talk 03:44, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Anybody who can make the articles for the DVD Comics would be appreciated. - Zero - Talk 17:03, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Should we add the Voice Actors, at least the ones for the main characters, to the Credits section? Thanks. Joey - Talk 03:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Its better if we make a voice actor disambiguation page and link it here. That way we can also state who the voice actors are playing properly without much fear of presentation errors (Line cutting, etc). Its just a thought though. - Zero - Talk 03:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Ya, that would work, so should we just place that into the section as an individual, or would making a disambiguation page for the creators, and one for the writer, etc be the way to go? Thanks. Joey - Talk 07:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

No. Just make the D Page for the voice actors. Major, secondary, minor etc. The creators and writers dont need such a page. All we'll need to do is then put a link to the page on this template. Just give me the D Page Name. I'll do it. - Zero - Talk 17:44, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I made the page, and I simply added the links for the Voice Actors, go ahead and add the characters with their links. I'm not sure of the best organizational technique to use, but go ahead and manage it, thanks. The page is Voice Actors. Joey - Talk 23:37, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Good. Now lets see.... all that's left... is... the... DVD COMICS!!! Come Oooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn guys. We need info on that. I cant find any pages on them either, I know of only one DVD comic, Private Fire (And only the Name at that), there are others though. Can somebody please make the pages and put the info. So I can link the pages on the template. Do I have to go Bloo on you guys. - Zero - Talk 09:20, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

If I had any info on them I would, the only thing I know about them is that there's the Private Fire one, and that in one of the DVD comics, Katara apparently uses Healing on Sokka's broken arm, I saw that info only once, so I can't guarantee its accuracy. Omnibender - Talk 00:23, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

If only someone were here who had seen the DVD Comics. - Zero - Talk 07:25, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

I haven't seen them, and I have searched for them in many different places, I don't think we will get lucky. Joey - Talk 08:32, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
