Crown Prince[]

Is this confirmed seeing as he was not Hou Ting's descendant, I find it hard to believe he was a crown prince O_o Killuminator (wallcontribs) 01:23, November 30, 2014 (UTC)

Wu's Dynasty[]

The page says that Wu is from the Hou-Ting dynasty but it has no citation and doesn't really make sense. He is (most likely) of the same dynasty as Hou-Ting but not the Hou-Ting dynasty. Claiming he is of the Hou-Ting dynasty implies that his link to the royal throne is derived from Hou-Ting but since he's a great-nephew his Royal claim is actually derived from his relation to Earth King Kuei. If anything he's from the Kuei dynasty, not that the show ever seems to imply that earth king's use any sort of dynastic naming system much less one based on important dynastic figures rather than dynastic founders. If the current earth monarch had a dynasty name it would likely be the name of the first Earth Monarch of that dynasty to ascend to the Earth Kingdom throne. Whom that is is unclear but it's extremely unlikely that it is Kuei and impossible for it to be Hou-Ting. Also since the Earth Kingdom likely prefers male inheritance it is often assumed that Wu's relation to the throne is through a grandmother rather than a grandfather. Although we don't actually know whether this is true it is still very likely that Wu is technically part of his grand fathers dynasty which may or may not be the same as Hou-Tings, assuming of course that in the earth kingdom dynasties are passed on agnatically.

Because of this I will be changing the wiki page so that it read's as a comment on Wu's relation to Hou-Ting, not a comment on earth kingdom dynasties.

Per "The Coronation":
Gun: Now rise, Wu of the Hou-Ting Dynasty, King of all the Earth Lands and glorious defender of Ba Sing Se. Long may you reign!
I will add the citation, but apart from that the fact stands regardless of parallelism to real world convention given that it was stated in canon. Waterbending emblem Water Spout 04:27, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your citation. I guess this is just another one of the weird quirks of the ATLA universe. Thanks Bryke! All hail Earth Queen Hout-Ting Hou-Ting!
