[edit] Templates

On the main page, you said if you know how to make a template, tell you here, well, I know how. Here's an example:

That was an example of my work. 4myself4 17:30, 10 July 2008 (UTC) For episodes? I'd do this:

That's just basic, I could make more added onto that, but I don't have that time unless I NEED to.

[edit] Linkbox Template

If you don't mind me saying, the box at the bottom with all the article links is far too big. Perhaps it could be broken down into link boxes for smaller categories such as "characters," "episodes," etc. DanMat6288 21:31, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

We're working to make it collapsible. Omnibender 23:47, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
You know, some Wikias like the DC Animated Universe Wiki have different navboxes for specific groupings, such as "Members of the Justice League" or "Project Cadmus." Couldn't Avatar Wiki do that? DanMat6288 00:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
I am pretty sure we do that, and please sign your name with four tildes (~) Felinoel 16:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
There aren't many groups here for us to do that, DC Comics has MANY more characters and MANY more elements, Avatar doesn't have as many. Omnibender 00:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Still, the nav box is ridiculously large, in my humble opinion. Anyway, something you could ask the DCAU Wiki people is how to make nav boxes collapsable, because they've done it with their "Members of the Justice League" one. I checked the code for "Template:JusticeLeagueMembers," but I didn't see what code it was that allowed them to do that. But still, their administrator might know something Avatar Wiki's doesn't. DanMat6288 00:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
As mentioned, we're working on it, we already know where the code to make it collapsible is, we just don't have a member who's good enough with coding to apply the codes. If you know someone who is, please contact the admins. Omnibender 18:27, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Featured Article

Ty Lee has been featured for at least a week. Let's get a new article, people. Fire Lord Spilledmilk 15:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Here are some ideas for a new featured article: Freedom Fighters, Dock/Xu/Bushi, or Wulong Forest (Many don’t know what this is, it is the site of Aang’s climactic battle, so if it is featured, more will know as well) Energybender 15:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
The point of a featured article is to show off the best articles that the wiki has to offer, not to bring attention to small ones. No featured article should be a stub. Howabout1-(Talk) 05:58, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
C'mon people, let's not put the new sections under the gigantic color section, makes it harder to read. Omnibender 22:23, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion

Can we just move the common used mark ups to a page? It is kind of annoying… ChaosMaster16 22:02, 25 August 2008 (UTC)ChaosMaster16

[edit] Site News

I'm not familiar with how the site news and this page is setup (yet) so would someone mind adding to the site news that the game Avatar: Legends of the Arena has been released, thanks. Joey - Talk 21:07, 24 September 2008 (UTC) I think that Nickelodeon should have another series based in the Avatar world, but instead of having Aang as the main character, it should take place after Aang has die and their is a new avatar recently born, or something. It would be cool if the characters were just a group of kids from the different nations.

I think that there should be a new section on the main page. There is info on the site news section (admin requests, Community portal) that is useful, but it's not really news in every sense of the word. The 888th Avatar - Talk 08:35, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Happy New Year

I just wanna say that, where I live (Belgium), It's new year tonight, so HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all Waterkai 17:41, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Poll

I think we should add a poll to the new page. What do you guys think? I have one on my userpage at the moment, and they are really handy and neat. Joey - Talk Contribs 08:22, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it's a great idea - as long as it doesn't get out of hand. The 888th Avatar - Talk 08:27, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fan Sites

I would like to make a proposal to attempt to increase site traffic. We should make a new section with links to the major fan sites, like they do on many Entertainment wikis. They will in turn link back to us. Everyone wins - we get more editors, they get more viewers. The 888th Avatar - Talk 12:05, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Help!

I'm worried about avatar fanon wiki, where I'm active on. We have problemes with vandals, votes for deletion and other things. The administrators haven't been online for a while, and I really need help in finding a user named 'Paperclipchains' on an other wikia. Please help me! Kai 14:28, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Uh huh. Finding him shouldn't be too hard. If he's on any Wikia wiki, he would see that you have posted on his talk page. In the meantime, I might stray to the Fanon wiki to clear some vandalism. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 00:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bullet Statements

Is is just me, or do the bullets on the main page sections look a little "askew"? Why is this? --Energybender 23:10, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I've reported the possible problem, it's pending. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 03:36, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. --Energybender 04:17, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

It's been happening for a week. I think they changed the code so that the bullet comes in the middle (hieghtwise) of the text it bullets. That is the problem. It should be at the top. - Zero - Talk 05:51, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Plus it's happening all over wikia. Not just this wiki but all the others as well. - Zero - Talk 06:18, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm...funny thing, it still hasn't been fixed. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 05:54, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
<HuggleBear>	uberfuzzy: Do you know what the problem is? http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Main_Page#Bullet_Statements
	<uberfuzzy>	are the centered?
	<uberfuzzy>	they*
	<HuggleBear>	No.
<uberfuzzy>	both of those have indeed been reported
<uberfuzzy>	i'll add a note to the ticket, see if it can get taken care of sooner

That's when I told him about it, so it's in process. Joey - Talk Contribs 06:03, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Recent Changes

Why was the "Recent Changes" notice moved? I like to know what changes the various articles are undergoing, to see if they have anything new to offer. I think this should be restored under the "Top Content" tab. Please consider.71.192.134.75 02:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

That little link was outdated and inefficient, on the left you may notice "Recent Changes" right under the sidebar, that will link you to Special:Recentchanges, a direct link to the last edits upon refresh. Both are easier to manage, more efficient, and show more than four or five articles. Thanks. Joey - Talk Contribs 02:54, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, if you only want to show article edits in "Recent changes", you can do that by selecting that option. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 02:56, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Completely true, and perhaps you should create an account so your preferences are saved. There should now be a link on your IP's talk page to do so, and this way you can keep track of your edits, be more part of the community, and have all preferences saved. Have a nice day. Joey - Talk Contribs 02:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Gap

Why is there a gap between the collapsible templates? I took a look at the source code for the page and there's no line skip or <br> that would account for the break. Anyone has any idea why that's happening? Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 22:23, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

I think I know why. I'll see what I can do. - Zero - Talk 05:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

There, Charitwo fixed it. On the AvatarAnimals template, it was just too spaced out, and that got called on. Joey - Talk Contribs 05:34, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Energybender's Changes

I'm really sorry, but I strongly disagree with moving the page to a template and protecting this page to sysop. First of all, using a template for this page is a waste of time. Also, protecting the page to sysop seems a little rude for visitors. It's also not needed, as this page has not been vandalised since December. Pages in the main namespace should only be protected if they are the target of persistent vandalism. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 21:20, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

But they can change the main page template if they want. It's very simple. I know several wikis that split up their main page components. --Energybender 21:23, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
But why do we need to do that? The 888th Avatar (Talk) 21:26, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
It looks more professional than having everything smooshed together on our front page, don't you think? --Energybender 21:28, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
..."I'll go along with whatever you feel is right." The 888th Avatar (Talk) 21:30, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Uh...watch out, you're stuffing it up. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 21:34, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Errors have been fixed. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 21:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Whew… thanks for that. --Energybender 21:48, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Any time. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 00:14, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Top Message

If you don't what I'm talking about, it is the message on the top of the wiki saying that if a user is autoblocked, they should let other users know ion their talk page. Yeah, well maybe it should be put on the main page in the Site News section. Vaznock - Talk 01:06, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we'll need to do that. I mean, everyone will read the new site notice at one point, they'll remember. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 01:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Alright. Vaznock - Talk 02:24, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] New Additions to Main Page

I've been doing minor design work for the main page for a while, as you have noticed, and in light of that, I want to make a few additions to the main page. Here are my ideas:

  • "Featured pic" - we have so many, it's not hard
  • "Featured quote" - especially to raise awareness of our quote pages
  • "Monthly poll" - I would like to move the one I've sandboxed at User:The 888th Avatar/Sandbox B

Adding these to the main column will mean I can lengthen the right column and allow more news blogs to be shown/more of the news blogs to be shown. It will also inject a bit more fun for the wiki.
At this stage however, I don't want a "did you know", seems pointless because no new content is coming in. We can probably try that next year. Let me know what you think here. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 14:52, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Good idea. I agree and support it. But, do you think to add polls about the wiki or about Avatar? Dcasawang1 - Talk 20:36, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - I agree. Phineas and Ferb Wiki has these, except for the poll, and it works fine! Agreed. —The Flash Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me bay-bay! 20:49, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
The polls could be on any subject. Most of the time about Avatar, but can be about the wiki where needed. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 23:35, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The featured pic and quote would be elected by vote? Dcasawang1 - Talk 18:19, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I think it's a grand idea. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 18:21, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, adding in now. Dcasawang: Definitely, I'll be setting up the page soon. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 12:37, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

About the polls, I was thinking that we can create a "page" where we'd move the polls and its statistics, add graphics for each poll and make a research analizing the results. What do you think? Dcasawang1 - Talk 15:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps. I don't intend the polls to be very important - they're just a bit of fun, and when we need it, a bit of community insight. The thing is, we have the formal votes for a reason, and polls might not be serious enough to warrant a whole page. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 16:20, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Ok. If they are for fun, that statistics aren't needed. Dcasawang1 - Talk 16:33, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Why I Can't Get My Account

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.46.217 (talkcontribs) 01:04, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

You're probably doing something wrong, there are no blocks for your IP. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 14:54, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
Most likely you're marking your birthdate as after 1997 which violates Wikia's ToS as all users must not violate COPPA (be older than 13.) Joey aa 06:21, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
