"I think she looks cute, like the time you put a sweater on your pet poodle monkey." |
— Star insulting Toph.[1] |
Star was born to one of the richest families in Ba Sing Se, and wore expensive clothes as a testimony to a life of wealth and privilege. She was arrogant, haughty, and inconsiderate, and while she and her friends teased each other about being soulless and lacking character, they were truly hollow and superficial inside,[2] and enjoyed making fun of those they considered inferior.[1]
History[]
As Star and her two friends were crossing a bridge in the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se, they encountered Katara and Toph, who had just enjoyed a complete makeover at the Fancy Lady Day Spa. The three friends began insulting Toph's make-up, though quickly moved onto her appearance in general, referring to her as a "clown" and a pet poodle monkey wearing a sweater. Although visibly upset by the remarks, Toph refused to be led away by Katara. Instead, she turned to face the girls, and laughing sarcastically as she complimented Star on her witty "poodle monkey" comment, Toph asked the girls if they knew "what else [was] a good one". Without waiting for an answer, she promptly earthbent the ground from under the surprised girls, making them fall into the river beneath them. Katara finished with her own parting shot by waterbending the girls downstream, causing them to scream in terror.[1]
