Singing Groundhog

From Avatar Wiki, the Avatar: The Last Airbender database

Singing Groundhogs

A Singing Groundhog is a small, brown, furry rodent. These creatures live in huge colonies on wide open prairies near the Si Wong Desert. With an ear for music, they will respond to single tones from a flute or other instrument by repeating that tone back to the player. These little critters attract tourists from all over the world. As Aang demonstrates, these creatures have an innate musical ability and will respond to any musical note by singing a pitch-perfect response, they even responded to Sokka's sarcastic "La de dah." Like ordinary groundhogs, they feed off insects and roots. Singing groundhogs have to hibernate.

Singing Groundhogs appear only in "The Library."

[edit] Connection

The Singing Groundhog seems most closely related to the real life prairie dog, who also enjoys popping up out of little holes in the ground, rather than the groundhog.
