Sela is Gansu's wife and the mother of Lee and his older brother, Sensu. She and her family run a farm in a small Earth Kingdom village.
Sela is a kind woman but is clearly very stressed with the burdens of her family and running a farm. She is very respectful and is willing to welcome strangers into her home if she believes them to be good enough people. As a mother Sela is very protective of her children, and though she appears to be a very strong woman, she is not above asking for help when she is in over her head. It would appear that she, like many others in the Earth Kingdom, also has a strong hatred for the Fire Nation.
[edit] History
Sela worried about her son
When her oldest son went to war against the Fire Nation, she was left with her second son, Lee, to care for.
When Zuko comes to the village and helps Lee out of a tough situation, Sela is happy to give him a place to stay. After Lee is captured by Gow and his followers, Zuko goes to get him back. Zuko is struggling at first because he can only use his swords. After Zuko defeats Gow with Firebending, Sela demands that he leaves as she stands in front of Lee, "protecting" him.
