Ruon-Jian and Chan have been best friends for a very long time. He is similarly confident and conceited and acts like a jaded rock star. He often communicates with just a flip of his hair or a subtle shrug. He is part of the Fire Nation elite on Ember Island. His name (pronounced Ron-John) is humorously derived from the name of the surfing company "Ron-Jon", as Ruon-Jian acts and looks like a stereotypical surfer.

Ruon-Jian and Chan are impressed by Ty Lee when she comes to Ember Island. The two decide to invite Ty Lee and Mai (who Ruon-Jian seems to like) to a party at Chan's house. Chan is then interrupted by Azula who insists that she and her brother are invited also. At the party, Zuko and Mai seem to be having trouble in their relationship. Zuko leaves to get Mai food and sees Ruon-Jian flirting with Mai. This angers Zuko and he pushes him into Chan's vase. He then calls Zuko a "loserboy" before Chan kicks him out.
