Pine was born Granville Whitelaw Pine in Scarsdale, New York, the son of a patent attorney. He is married to actress Gwynne Gilford, who made a couple of appearances on CHiPs as the wife of his starring character; Sgt. Joe Getraer. They are the parents of actors Chris Pine and Katie Pine.
