Not much is shown about prickle snakes. Aang used a lie that one was in Sokka's sleeping bag to get him to get up in The Southern Air Temple.

While camping in some areas of the world, especially outside of a tent, creatures such as snakes can hide inside sleeping bags, posing a danger to any human occupants.
