  • If you have the time, there has been a new nomination for A-class article :-)

  • Hey, Ziryerx, you forgot to add the licensing to File:Pik and Pak.png. Can you please fix this? :-)

  • Pathetic.

    • I beg your pardon? I was simply reverting the article until a consensus could be reached, as to not continue to constantly edit the page back and forth. I am more than willing to discuss the issue, that is simply the policy of doing so.

  • Hi,

I was wondering: could you please restore the pages for Major characters and Minor characters in Smoke and Shadow?

Lady Lostris gave her reason as 'unused category'.

So, if you would please restore them, I shall fill in those categories. I find them highly necessary and vital pages.

    Thank you,

    Justice

    • But, please, as a favour to me, can you please resotre them? Please? This time, at least, I'll be adding original content to the wiki. I meant every word I said to you on my apology statement. I really hope to be on better terms with you, Lady Lostris. Can you please give me permission to conduct this task? I beg of you.

    • You're not hearing me, Justiceforall17: the task you're so willing to do -which on itself is appreciated- is unnecessary due to the impending policy change. There is simply no need to create those categories. Doing that now will only create more work later, completely undoing what you would have done now.

  • I removed them because that is what I suggested in the first place. Having them in the general Water Tribe is redundant when there is a more specific category. Similar to how we don't list Avatars in each individual bender category. Right in the beginning of the proposal, what I put forward was to make those categories work like they do in the character image categories, which were already split in northern, southern, and Foggy Swamp. Whoever added the specific categories simply didn't remove the general WT character category. That still exists because it's a category where the three specific characters are, and because there are Water Tribe characters of indeterminate origins.

In regards to the consensus: it wasn't clear on the matter of "yay or nay removal of the Water Tribe category", as your proposal implied the removal of the category, but then I also said to keep the parent category. I did sort of meant it to keep the parent category in the category tree, but it could've easily been read as "keep it on the page".

Yeah, that was how I interpreted it.

To break it down easily, I think the reasons to keep it on the page are similar to why we have a general "characters" category on every page: compile a long list of all the people from the Water Tribe, regardless of which tribe.

I agree, I believe the point of subcategories is simply to narrow your search to be more specific, not to reveal an entirely different list of articles, though there are most likely some exceptions to this.

As for the Avatars, maybe we should have a review of the categorization guide in general - as we also still need to work out a better system for the graphic novel characters.

I think that would definitely be a good idea. For the Avatar situation and similar scenarios, I believe the reasoning behind not adding certain categories is to limit the number of categories on a given article, if I am not mistaken; however, this does not really seem like a solid argument. That would lend to the idea that we should limit how many categories an article can be in, consequently bringing up the question of which ones not to include, which is something seemingly very subjective. I believe it would be best to just allow an article to reside in whatever categories and subcategories it is directly a part of.

Omnibender wrote: My suggestion of merging all the different main/major/minor graphic novel character categories still stands, though lack of engagement in the original proposal means it has the "this hasn't been edited in x days, and is considered archived" notice. As much as I want that idea to go forward, I have little reason to believe simply making a new thread would get more traction than before.

Valid point. Why hasn't that change been executed yet? Just wondering.

Because there wasn't really a clear suggested change. People said one thing, then it was sort of agreed upon, but also altered slightly, and there never was a clear consensus. If we were to open a new debate, bring forth a clear change, like a breakdown of which categories would stay/go/be altered and how the new categorization system would work in the future in terms of main/major/minor characters for all such categories (change is most pressing needed for the graphic novels, but I maybe also for the series), then at least we could have a clear consensus even if it would only be from a handful of people. I apologize for not having done this myself, but I recently started my new job, so I've been a bit pressed for time for larger tasks like this ^^".

    • Typically, my writing consists of purely scholarly writing as that is my strength; however, I have written a bit of fanfiction, all of which is present on this wiki and can be found here and here, if you are interested. I must warn you though, I am really not a very good creative writer, so it is not the best :/ I hope you enjoy it though.

    • Did you ever put your stories on the actual fanfiction website? It's just annoying these pages can be viewed by anyone like Facebook. Thanks.

        Loading editor
    • That sounds interesting; although, I'm not really proud enough of my work to make it any more public than it is here, but thank you for letting me know.

    • I meant the wiki's pages, not the fanfiction site's pages, are annoying that they can be viewed by anyone like Facebook, although Fanfiction is quite similar; but its purpose is of writing creative stories that everyone (even without an account) can read.

Anyway, about my annoyance for wiki, I did not mean that it's annoying that anyone can view your pages of your stories; everyone should have the right to read your stories. Unlike story pages or a general discussion board, which are for everyone, I just mean when someone contacts another, like now, it is a little weird for anyone to view these types of pages without any privacy, instead of simply by the people texting each other and of course by the wiki's admins. I was wondering if you had a Fanfiction account so that, in order to not reveal something important about a story when asking you a grammar question by having to reveal the full sentence/phrase when absolutely necessary, which anyone could see when looking at the page, I could private message you instead on Fanfiction.

However, thank you greatly for the help you have given me for my stories.

  • Okay, maybe not, but I am still curious. Where'd you get your username from?

      Loading editor
    • Haha, excellent question. I was in middle school (so this was years ago), and I created an account for an online game and have basically just used it ever since. Honestly, the reasoning behind it is simply that I took the last three letters of the alphabet backwards and filled in some letters in between that were phonetically unusual, yet still comprehensible. Errr ... then again, I was only in middle school, so it could have just been that I liked words with odd letters in it :P

    • Cool. It's fun hearing where people got unique usernames from. If you're curious, 'Sorcerer Supreme' is a tribute to both Marvel and Harry Potter, two of my favorite franchises. Doctor Strange's title is the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, aka the most powerful sorcerer or magic-user on the planet who doesn't use their powers for destructive or malicious purposes. The 21 had a nice ring to it.

    • Thank you very much for the nomination m'Lady ^^"

Additionally, by reviewing the history of edits on the UotM page, I noticed that typically voting occurs to select the User of the Month for the following month, so I proceeded to update that. Hopefully I was correct in doing so, and I assumed that did not change either of the decisions to nominate users. And again, thank you; it means a lot.

    • Good call. Another reason why you would deserve to get the recognition: I for detail and a willingness to help out where needed, yey! :-)

Don't thank me, you did all the work. Writing down a name is easy. I really meant what I said. It's so nice to see that the transcripts are looked after again. I got started on this wiki by working on transcripts. Gradually my focus shifted to ... well, everything, but the transcripts often seemed to be on the short end of that, as I haven't been giving them a lot of attention lately. There is still so much scenery expansion that they need, so it's really nice to see someone taking up that care again :-)
