You tagged it for deletion - I removed it. You're reason was it was being used on fanon, but in the forum you specifically told us we were allowed to use three images specifically for fanon that were from the show, and the others had to be from somewhere else. Unfortunately, there's no tutorial on how to make templates. The best teacher for me was trial and error. Also, reading on parser functions never hurts. ― Thailog 22:51, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

The War - Aftermath Edit

Please remove the 'wishful thinking' parts of the Aftermath. We have no indication what will happen after the war. For all we know, the more powerful Fire Nation army might keep most of its territories, all of them, some of them, a few of them, none at all. We don't know.

Map of the Avatar World Edit

Hey, I just noticed a few things that seemed off with the map. I figured I'd leave them up to you since I've never edited a map before. But it looks like the Sun Warriors Ancient City is in the middle of the ocean in between the Fire Nation and the Western Air Temple. Fanon images Edit

Thailog, the images you replaced in my fanon pages don't "convey" the same idea that the past images. There are important details in the pictures; please undelete the images; Thanks. - Dcasawang1 - Talk 21:49, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Any importance that the details may have get lost in the absence of a caption. Infobox images usually showcase the general idea of the story, being something that the reader can associate with the title without having to read the entire story to understand why you chose that image. Case in point, "The Boy in the Iceberg," "The Avatar State," and "Nightmares and Daydreams," just to name a few. Fanon:Free as a Bird presumably refers to Azula, so I don't see how an image of her squatting from a high leap (if I recall correctly) is any better than the one I put there. As for the Fanon:Two of Us, you originally had an image of the Kyoshi Warriors, and since there weren't only two characters in it nor there were two of them standing out from the rest, I guessed that you weren't trying to make a correlation with the title, so any image of the group would suffice. I'm sorry but claiming that an image has important details is not sufficient to sidestep the policy regarding canon images used on fanon. Every other fanon editor would have liked to use the images they liked, but they bit the bullet and used the best next thing that was available. ― Thailog 22:59, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

What can I do to help?

Plenty! While the canon articles are fairly informative, there is so much you can do to help us prepare for the release of the film in July.

  • Write a blog post. That is one of the biggest ways you can help us. We want to hear what you think about the film or anything related. It doesn't have to agree with what we say - in fact we'd love to hear a different opinion! Or if the film doesn't interest you - write reviews of episodes, advertise fanon or fan fiction that you've written.
  • Jump into the forums and discuss the series and films with other Avatar fans! Ask your questions about the series, and answer others'! You can discuss anything about Avatar - your favourite characters, comparisons between characters and characters from other series, and much more!
  • We want to hear your concerns. What aren't we doing right? What do you want to see on Avatar Wiki? Do you have any brilliant new ideas you would like to see the light of day? Tell us.

I am just curious to a minor detail. You deleted an image of mine, and claimed it was hotlinking it, but if you clicked the URL you would have seen that the link provided a source, as all my personal images do that are used for fan-service reason. I am just curious, do I need to alter add the image to some directory of Azula's? Because I can't seem to locate her's. I just want to do it right, but I am just taken back because I cited the source ( I grabbed the screen shot myself using iMovie, and also copied the patent and such onto photobucket ).

I see. I figured since it was my personal account that provided the citation it was alright. I read over some FAQs, but honestly I can't seem to clarify something: If I want to use a already faceshot of Azula uploaded, do I need permission or as long as I do the correct formating its alright? Not sure if its sensitive to limits on its usage...
You can only use images on your userpage that are being used on canon articles. You can find images pertaining to Azula in her image category. ― Thailog 09:21, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
I got it. :) Sorry, I am transitioning from html to the wiki-policy, and I didn't realize they had their own mainframe -- which is nice I admit. I have tons of screen captures that I could upload, but I am confused on one fact that had no clarification: It seems to upload a picture I need to also insert it into a canon article. Okay, cool... But I don't really feel comfortable replacing pictures that someone else did just as much work for. As per our image policy you can only "upload up to three images for a specific fanon article that are not currently in use elsewhere". And you can't just go replacing images with no good reason. ― Thailog 09:51, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Can there be a blank Userbox? Edit

Basically a blank base that operates like the "Template:Story" {{Story|abbreviation|name}}. Something that allows people to add their own likes and dislikes without sticking to the standard Userbox template. Due to the many characters, objects and animals excreta, it would allow for more expression of what people like that currently isn't provided. I also posted this on the Userbox discussions.

For example

"Template:Yourbox" = {{Yourbox|Hama|she created bloodbending}}
Hama This user likes Hama because she created bloodbending.

Hama This user dislikes Hama because she created bloodbending.

Look man, I put the source on there, I stated that I had permission to use it, it's NOT copyrighted, and yeah i DID edit it in photoshop. Now, can you leave my pictures alone.

You see that long descriptive list you ignore and scroll down to get to the upload section? Well, that tells you how to properly provide a source and credit for the images you upload. Thanks for addressing the error in my inaccurate upload of the photo for my fanon I am writing, Eyes of Katara. I had this stuff in mind for awhile but hesitated putting it online, as I was unsure of what rules might apply. I tried to make sense of all the rules on the upload page, but ultimately it was a bit confusing; sorry for that.


Anyway, I visited your page and read the complaints on the same issue, and I think the explanation I needed was better worded here than it was on the upload page. So essentially, I cannot upload the photo I had in mind at all under any circumstance, because that particular order of pictures never appears in the series without my combining them/altering the originals. So that's impossible to use it.

What is acceptable? Must I draw them all myself by hand in order to make it my own work and upload that? If there are other methods of being able to achieve this besides just that, please let me know, so I can get a suitable image back in place for my fanon. I uploaded my new photo that I have drawn myself - it's not what it was by any means...I may go all the way and keep drawing more to try and perfect the image further to my liking, but I wanted something valid up for a notable photo in the meantime. Hi It's Ian again.
Again you decided to delete another one of my photos Hawky7.png. Maybe you could do everyone a favor and quit deleting their uploads immediately, warn the uploader, and fix the problem or at least help them fix the problem. I accidentally put the origin in the source field when I uploaded the image. You could have saved me the headache, and correct my mistake, or warned me instead of being impertinent and deleting it. This is not the first, second, or third time you have deleted my upload, but the fourth. I feel you misuse your power as an admin, and I would like to tell you that others as well are not pleased with you. I would not be as upset as I am if you would have warned me before the deletion, which would have brought to my attention that I uploaded it wrong, and I could have corrected the mistake. Could you please notice me, the next time I make a mistake, assist me if needed, and give me time to fix the problem, before you decide to delete the image. Another issue I would like to address with you, is the fact that you threatened to block me from making edits on pages. I will have you know that I am very dedicated to what I put my mind to. I am working on a fanon, The Chronicles of Ian, and I will not have all my hard work put to rest, because you feel that it is appropriate to block me from editing my fanon just because I make a mistake uploading an image. A proper admin would warn a user before deletion, assist the user if they need help correcting the mistake, and if the user is unable to fix the problem themselves, the admin would attempt to correct it for the user. I do not feel that you are a proper admin, and I will hope that you realize your mistake, and do you job properly. With that said, I would like to know if my uploading of Hawky7.png is acceptable. If their is sill an issue with the image, please let me know before you remove it, that away I can fix the problem at hand.

What you think of me is irrelevant for either of us to perform our work. What's relevant is that policy isn't being complied, therefore I'm upholding it. There's an array of reason to why I don't warn users before I delete their uncredited images, but the most important one is that when I used to do that, they expected me to do it all the time. They uploaded an image and made zero effort to learn how to provide due credit and expected someone else to do that for them. That someone was usually me, and I grew tired of it. Then, when I started deleting images without warning, users started to make an effort to learn how to comply with policy if they wanted their images to stay. I told you before and I'll tell you now, every time someone uploads an image they have to scroll down and pass over a very simple, albeit detailed, list telling how to fill in the template. There are also a plethora of images on the database that you can check out to see how it's done. As for the blocking, if you double-check the above conversation, I threatened to block you because you insisted to upload altered images, which is a breach of policy, and such persistence results in blocking. I'll admit that I jumped the gun pertaining Hawky7.png, but I can't go around leaving messages on everyone who messes up image credits. I will, however, flag them with a deletion template and wait for them to fix what needs fixing, and delete it a couple of days if nothing happens. ― Thailog 12:31, October 7, 2010 (UTC)
