Sorry to come here but I can't comment at the Sherlock Holmes wiki at the moment. I just wanted to say thanks so much for your support. It means a lot! :)
Well, I haven't been here for a while! I expected you couldn't comment at the other wiki, though, being blocked and all. Anyway, I'm glad to help, because it's clear to me that the admin is, unfortunately, unfit for her duties. I was always kind of irked at the way she deletes pages so suddenly and without warning, but seeing her handling of this situation only confirms it for me. I will comment on that complaint you made if I can find something helpful to add.
We can only hope. It's just been such a difference from the time I spent on this wiki in terms of both the activity of the wiki and the helpfulness of the administration that it really doesn't surprise me at all how dead the other wiki is.
I do have to say that this wiki really deserves a lot of Kudos for how well it's been run and for how active the community is. I always really enjoyed editing here, even if only in bits and pieces (though the translations and names turned out really well, and I'm quite proud of them.)
Well I got a reply from wiki staff, and they basically just told me that they don't get involved in matters like this. I left NancyDrew4ever a message at Community Central but if that doesn't work - and I can't imagine she'll change her mind - that's it. I didn't think this would upset me but it has.
I'm quite sorry to here that. As you may have noticed, she has at no point responded to anything I've written her, so it seems most likely that she'll just continue to ignore anything you send. I can imagine that it would be upsetting to you: it's upsetting to me to see how unfairly this is being handled. I can only imagine it's more so for you, especially after all the energy you've put into it.
Hello again. In case we get nowhere with our discussions with ND4e, would you be interested in us perhaps creating our own Sherlock Holmes wiki? I'll be around later todaytoday if you're interested in discussing it. :)
I'm not opposed to the idea, but I don't have the time or technical expertise to be much assistance on that front. If it were created, I would gladly move there. As it is, I don't see myself contributing more to that wiki without some serious structural changes. I've been very frustrated with her policies and I think it's completely ridiculous that her latest idea is to mark articles as "completed" and lock them to prevent further editing. telane (wall • contribs) 04:11, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
Hi, TLane. The image you uploaded to our database does not specify its source or licensing.
Source: You need to indicate where the image was taken from by using a {{imagebox}}. In case of screenshots, and if you didn't grab them yourself, you need to acknowledge the site/person who did it. Also, please add a description of the screencap;
Licensing: If you have not created this media yourself, then you need to indicate why it can be used here. For this, you need to include the proper image copyright designation on the license field of the {{imagebox}}. If you believe the media falls under the fair use doctrine, then consider reading up on it, and then use the proper fair use license (canon).
If you uploaded other media, consider checking whether you specified their source and licensing, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded here.
To comply with this request, go to the file's edit page, remove the notice and click on . Then, fill out the appropriate fields as exemplified here. Finally, save the change.
Note that it's your responsibility to properly credit the media you upload, and any unsourced and unlicensed image can be deleted if not correctly specified.
Hey PSU, my guess is that the image came from the Avatar art book, can't you source it as well? Just asking since TLane appears to be inactive and it would be a shame to delete the image.

Most of the non-hybrid creatures are not real, such as giant rhinocerous beetle, Se Tu, elbow leech, lop-eared rabbit, etc. It's a category for things that are just not hybrid, which a firefly is not.
Yes, a plain firefly is not, but from what we've seen they are quite different, so I am not sure if we could infer either hybridized or not, as you can find basic differences just by looking at it. Also, as the prickle snake doesn't exist in the real world, was never seen, and its name features the word "prickle", thorn, it is implied to be a hybrid creature.
The spirit world firefly looks much the same as a regular fireflies shown in the series, and doesn't seem to be crossed with anything else. As for the prickle snake, there are numerous spiny snakes in the world, which is what I would assume the name is referring to. Just because it isn't real doesn't mean it should go in that category unless it seems to be hybridized, like a spider snake. Since neither of them seem to be hybridized, they should be moved.
Depends on what you mean by "correct". While Hiroshi and Asami's last name is probably correct, and their first names seem likely, I don't think the characters for their names have been shown. Lin's last name is accurate, but her first name is just guessed. It's just speculation, as you can't really tell what the characters are without either knowing the tones or the meaning. Tenzin's name, on the other hand, is the usual Chinese transcription of that name.
As I said above, while they're likely, I don't think they've been officially confirmed, so they should be taken down, though for Lin, you could leave the first two characters. Chinese Wikipedia uses different characters for all their names, anyway.
I just pulled off the translations as a whole - it kind of doesn't make sense to have just the character for "Beifong" on Lin. I did keep the Tenzin one since you said it was the usual transcription.
Sorry, I accidentally refreshed the page and it deleted my rather long response. I'll shorten it to basically thank you, I'm glad you keep up with these things. It should be fine to leave Tenzin, though I'm actually kind of sad to see them go, since unlike most supposed "translations" of names, these were actually reasonable-sounding - it's a shame they weren't official.
On another note, would you mind heading over to the discussion forum and commenting on the "Goat Dog" rename thread? It's gotten no attention and nothing accomplished besides a two-way deadlocked debate between myself and another admin.
You're welcome. I was going to just reverse them straight up, but I wanted to ask you (and 888 as well in case you didn't catch it) to make sure I wasn't undoing a correct translation.
As for the goat dog forum...I'll have a look at it and see what I can offer.
I agree that it's usually polite to check first. One of my pet peeves is when people reverse things without asking first on the assumption they're wrong, because while this particular incident isn't my own work, someone put the effort into doing it with good intentions. It never hurts to ask!
Thanks for checking, too. It's not much, really just overly contentious debate over a very small point. I certainly expected it to be a lot easier!
I honestly didn't expect it to be such a controversial debate, mainly because had previously changed gharial hog to hog and gotten no such backlash. And I personally think in that case there was a much stronger argument to be made. (But don't tell you know who...)
Thank you for your message! It's great to see my work being appreciated. It doesn't usually take too long to do the translations if it's just one line or so, but if it's a longer piece, written in an unusual style, or I have to look up obscure characters, it can be quite time-consuming, and it's nice to hear that people notice my contributions.
