His work throughout the last one and a half years has been in the background, but the combined weight of the changes he has made has seen this wiki become an extremely reliable, authoritative and well-presented Avatar resource. News Story by Vaznock Change, change, change, it's all a normal part of growth in wikis, especially for Avatar Wiki. The year, 2009, will always be known as a crucial point in our wiki's history. There are many possible reasons for why are wiki suddenly blossomed into the great site it is today. Though one thing is completely clear, our wiki has changed for the better, and everyone is noticing the changes. But there are still questions to be asked, mainly the question of: what next? Currently, that's being discussed by the community, in which an IRC meeting was recently held regarding what new changes we can accomplish. Major changes our wiki has undergone are listed as follows: A new type of articles, A-class Articles, have been introduced into our wiki. Users have the ability to search for articles they believe our of quality standard, and then nominate articles that they think are worthy. A council of five users, called the A-class Article Council, then vote over whether an article should be A-classed. Currently, our wiki has a decent amount of A-class articles. As all you subscribers know, our wiki now has our own newspaper, called The Ba Sing Se Times, which you are reading right now. It keeps wiki users up to date on all events pertaining to our wiki and the Avatar media itself, such as the movie. The policy for Administrators has changed drastically. The misconceptions of "all mighty Administrators" ceased, and now our wiki decides on matters democratically (the entire community has a say) and the distinction between regular users and sysops is no longer blatantly obvious. All inactive administrators have also been stripped of their positions. Our wiki is now much funner. Users have the ability to create their own User Group about any Avatar Wiki topic they want, along with allowing any user on the wiki to join. Blogs have also been created, thanks to the Wikia Staff, where we can give proposals, review episodes, and more! But likely the biggest change our wiki has undergone is our merge with our sister wiki, Avatar Fanon Wiki. Because of this, a new user rank was created: Fanon Administrator, in which the four administrators of Avatar Fanon Wiki have been given the title. What have all these changes done? Well, if you're an older user, even just five months old, then think back to those days, where admins were considered "almighty" and our wiki had little to its name. Now just look at what we are now. So much good change in so little time, makes you wonder what our future will hold. Luckily, you can have a say in our wiki's future, by suggesting improvements and giving feedback! Filming for The Last Airbender has been going on for six months in a vast area of locations across the world. But now, with but a year to go, filming has ceased. "I personally find the Rich Text Editor rather annoying. I have disabled it in my preferences, because I find it very troublesome to work with it. Yet, I am quite fluent in the original editor. I use both, but the new editor often has issues. It is very hard to place and move pictures, so I use the original editor for that. The Rich text editor for the most part is very easy to use, but it has lots of bugs. However, if you struggle with wiki coding, it is highly advisable you continue editing the Rich Text Editor until you feel comfortable without it. The wiki we once called our sister wiki is no longer in existence. But there's still one more wiki relating to Avatar, and it's Foamipedia, the Official Avatar Humor Wiki. The wiki, created by Andftw, is aimed to provide a barrage of articles making fun of the Avatar Universe and parodying it. You can find out all general information on the actual site. However, despite being a laid back and humorous type of site, the wiki still has a documented policy that must be followed in order to maintain success. All in all, you must take on the wiki maturely, but still bring your sense of humor with you. So if you have a sense of humor and you specialize in making people laugh, Foamipedia is your kind of place! Manga adaptations for Avatar series and films by SuperFlash101 Last issue, I told you the exclusive story of The Last Airbender and it's new merchandise. But the tale doesn't stop there - you know good old Viacom, they're going to to milk this until it's dry, which is good for us. This time around we're delving deep into the stylistic influences on Avatar and touching upon the Japanese cult phenomenon: manga. At the end of last month, I reported on this for Wan Shi Tong's Library but left out some important details. That's because I want to keep you full of tension and anticipation for this issue XD. But seriously, folks, as you know, the Mangas will be adaptions of both the series and the Airbender film, drawn by actually Japanese Manga artist. The Last Airbender is set to be released in theaters on July 2, 2010. Filming has ceased and Shymalan and his crew on working on the post-production. As we look back to all the changes and great ideas that have helped our wiki grow and prosper, we can now only swim in the aftermath of these changes. From April to June, our wiki was put in to major refinement. Because of what happened during those months, we now have a newsletter, a new and better administrative policy, a wiki that allows fanon, and a path that gave way to some immense summer fun and more changes, which includes: An Avatar Wiki-wide contest was held by Joeyaa, in which users would win recognition on the Main Page every week for submitting outstanding pieces of fan-art, Avatar videos, and more! A fanon special was created by the fanon users of the site, in which the fanon creations of multiple authors was combined and put into a 5-6 part storyline. A new administrator and a new bureaucrat were chosen. Thailog, the first administrator who was chosen democratically, is known for being the creator of our wiki's outstanding skin and a user with very plentiful contributions. Joeyaa, the bureaucrat who was chosen, is known for his fantastic organization of our wiki through a bot, called JoeyaaBot. Avatar Wiki's articles have now been given an elaborate grading system: A-class, B-class, C-class, and Stub-class. The articles will be voted on by the members of the Standards Council. However, our adventures on Avatar Wiki are far from over. In fact, they've just begun, as this Summer marks the beginning of the new Avatar Wiki! For example, it has been said that our wiki is lacking in forums and news. If these aspects are covered, we will become the ultimate Avatar site! So come down and participate this Autumn! Dao Le, animatic director of Avatar, thinks Aang Ain't White! by SuperFlash101 That's right folks, Dao Le, who was an animatic director for Avatar: The Last Airbender and therefore a member of the crew, has officially announced he supports Racebending and finds the casting for Airbender to be racist. The official Racebending.com released this statement given to them by Dao Le himself: It’s been a huge disappointment to hear about the casting for Avatar’s live-action movie. The show was heavily influenced by Asian culture, some of the characters were even modeled after Asian members of the crew. But now, with the pre-dominantly white cast, it feels like all the Asian/Eastern influences, origins, what have you, were just a backdrop for these characters. But I always believed they were Asian, or even mixed Asian. And that belief added a little extra pride in working on such a great show. The appreciation Mike & Bryan had for Asian culture, the interest it generated in the fans, gave ME greater appreciation for my own culture. So it’s just hard to believe they couldn’t find one Asian actor to hold any of the lead protagonist parts. Not one? This film is going to feel like some other Avatar story. BuddyTV reports that Le finds it "hard to believe they couldn't find one Asian actor to hold any of the lead protagonist parts." While doing animatics on the series, Le reportedly "believed" the characters were Asian, or Asian-mixed, and confirms that the series itself is Asian influenced, like many others have stated before - "With the pre-dominantly white cast, it feels like all the Asian/Eastern influences, origins, what have you, were just a backdrop for these characters." Not only this, but several other staff members have stated that they're flabergasted and support Racebending. Like I reported back in June, Sifu Kisu mentioned that legally he's unable to state his opinion, but was able to say that he wants to "say something so bad" and that "some of [the fans] are SO right & [they] don't even know." So only time will tell if even the crew of the show will boycott the movie, or, dare I say, even the co-creators themselves. Make up a new feature! The comment reveals that they are expecting to theatrically release the full movie trailer in December, around Christmas time. His exact words were: "For those of you wondering about LAST AIRBENDER, all is well in post and we r working on a trailer for Xmas." It is unsure what December flick the long-awaited full trailer will be attached to. One website suggests the upcoming Sherlock Holmes film, starring Robert Downy, Jr. (Iron Man, Tropic Thunder) Another mentions Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones - one fan even wrote that it would be "deliciously ironic" if it were to be attached to Avatar, for which Airbender was forced to be renamed by. Fans stay on the edge of their seat for the trailer, and, most importantly, the film itself, to be released. New fanon by The avatar Hey guys, a section of our new fanon are the “newest fanon”. Our goal here is to let the fanon community hear about some new fanon, and their authors. This issue’s “newest fanon” is Avatar: Guardian. The fanon is written by The Bos, a new user at AW. So, in an effort to get some details of his new fanon, I interviewed him on IRC to give you guys some inside details. Guardian is all about Team Avatar against factions of the 3 nations who want to continue the war. The Air Nomads are back due to Aang’s energybending, Toph is helping rebuild Omashu, Sokka went back to Piandao to get a new sword, and Zuko married Mai. Of course, several new characters are coming including Mitros, Jiang Rha, and Cheng. Bos was inspired to write fanon when he and his friends started talking and knew the war would not end peacefully. The name came from the necessity to "Guard" the world peace they fought to get and the plot was from some history, video games and other stories that introduced family of main characters. Several of those were the Knights Templar, which will be more helpful in the future, and he based the entirety of Mitros off of Kratos from God of War. Bos has enjoyed the community at AW, and reads some other fanon including Kyoshi Revolts, Wanted, and the The Phoenix Chronicles to name a few. Bos plans on writing a full 61 chapters for his series; and has some ideas for a future series as well. He also hopes to release the chapters on a weekly basis, mostly on Fridays. Also, Bos has given us a special sneak preview of the next chapter: "Okay, what are we going to do about all the crazy people trying to destroy the world?" Aang and Katara sit up; Zuko and Sokka stop their petty argument and begin brainstorming. Aang tosses the first idea out, "Maybe we should go in the Avatar cycle: defeat the Water benders first, then the Dai Li, and then finish by finding the Fire benders." Training and romance drive latest 'Kyoshi' chapter by SuperFlash101 As most Fanon users know, the latest chapter of Kyoshi Revolts came out a couple of weeks ago. The chapter, tentatively entitled "Rebel Lessons, Part 2," continue where the previous chapter left off - Chen is training with Ray, while Giu tags along for the soul purpose of getting to touch Ray's but. But now we get to see Mina and Kaila getting a training lesson of there own, which made this chapter even better. We're so early into book two, but it's easy to say this is turning out to be as good as - or even better than - the first. "Rebel Lessons" was the perfect example of a good Kyoshi Revolts chapter: mixing comedy with action and drama, it reminded me of an actual Avatar episode. It was cool to see Kaila going all Naruto with her new kunai knives, which I'd guess will appear more in the series. Chen's Waterbending prowess is clearly mediocre, but like his predecessor, I'm sure he'll be better by the middle part of the book. Plus, he even bloodbended, which is always an awesome thing to see being included in any Avatar fanfic. Not to mention, he almost asked Kaila out - their relationship is shaping up to be one of the best parts of the whole story, so I can't wait to see what happens next. So if you haven't read "Rebel Lessons" or any chapter of Kyoshi Revolts, I recommend you do so pronto. The story is one of best Avatar fics out there and always delivers, especially with this new chap. Overall: A+

Admin advice for a specific situation Edit

Hey Flash,

I am sort of having an issue with some of my fanon articles and since I might need some advice in terms of wiki/fanon etiquette. Let me just tell the whole story and ask my questions at the end.

My fanon character Ban Zhengyi is an Avatar, so I had some red links on his page entitled Maiara (who was supposed to be the avatar before Zhengyi and is a minor character in the story like Roku in the series) and I also picked out a name for the Avatar after Zhengyi, entitled Ayatsu, (who may not show up in the story but I thought I might use him in an epilogue or something). So those were the two red links, Fanon:Maiara and Fanon:Ayatsu

So about two weeks ago I logged in and saw that these links were no longer red. I went to them and found that a new user named Alexdpny (I don't know if you know him) had written basically complete articles for both of them without my permission. Now obviously I don't want to hurt his feelings or anything, and I think he was new and just didn't know he wasn't supposed to do that, but I don't like what he did with the articles and I want the rights to them again. He didn't even use the few pieces of information about Avatar Maiara that I already included in the actual story I wrote--the "source material"--so his contributions really have no bearing on my story. He had also added succession boxes at the bottom that gave the two characters the title of "Avatar in the 'Heir of Ban' Continuity," which--from what I've seen on this wikia--implies he has the authority to decide what is and is not canonical to the Heir of Ban continuity which would only be true if he authored or co-authored the story. I was going to gently tell him that he can keep the stories if he either changes those characters names or disassociates them from my fanon continuity buy adding a parentheses after the title like so: Maiara (Such-and-such story), as you do when you write a fanon article about a canon character. I had finals that week so I just held off talking to him.

A few days ago he sent me the following message on my talk page: "Hello Manzai. I'm Alexdpny. I'm writing my own fanon, spirit destruction. i was wondering if i can use the names Maiara, Ban Zhengyi, and Ayatsu in the story. I created the pages for Maiara and Ayatsu as well as my own avatars linked to the pages. So, if you can reply as soon as possible thanx. I love your work."

So i logged on again to check the situation and he did indeed start his own story called Spirit Destruction. He has since changed the succession boxes to say "Avatar in the 'Spirit Destruction' Continuity", which guess implies the two characters were his creations. Now, I feel a little guilty because I haven't really decided what to do with those characters yet, so they would probably have to go back to being red links or very brief articles, but I know I'm not going to do anything like what Alexdpny wrote in the articles.

So that is what I want your advice on. I'm thinking I'm going to be very gracious and gentle, but basically tell him that what he's essentially done is make fan fiction of my fan fiction, so he should change the article titles to "Fanon:Maiara (Spirit Destruction)" instead of just "Fanon:Maiara". (and I realize that he'd have to create articles with those names and then copy paste the body text of the article in. I know users can't just re-title articles. Although an admin could rename them if he agrees and one of you feels like doing it). Or I'll tell him he can just come up with original names and they'd be fully his own characters. So as an admin, do you think I'm in the right to ask for those article back? Do you think I should tell him what I've summarized above? If not, what should I tell him? Oh and also, if he reacts badly or refuses I may need the support of admins. I'm not in a hurry or anything, but I'll wait for your response and before I reply to him.

Marshall posted this on Twitter: Not enough ILM shots finished, so LAST AIRBENDER trailer will not debut until Feb… While this is a little disappointing for many of us, it has been proved time and again that the delayed release of something truly spectacular is always better than the on-time release of something half-baked. Let's hope that the wait is worth it. For now then, we'll have to satisfy ourselves with the original trailer released on June 22, 2009, which is shown to the right for your enjoyment. Comments to be posted here. 'Kyoshi' serves up another helping of romance and humor by SuperFlash101 The latest chapter of Kyoshi Revolts, entitled "Just Friends," lives up to the series' usual brilliance in romance and humor. In this chapter, Giu and Ray, to huge surprise, begin dating after Giu saves a little girl from dying. The writing for the emotion of that scene, interestingly, was marvelous, as the portrayal of the characters' reaction to Giu's supposed death was top-notch. I enjoyed seeing their relationship, however short-lived, but think it could have been expanded; while what was seen was great, it just seems like it went by too quickly. That could always be the intention though. Meanwhile, we get to see some hilarious outbursts and ramblings from Kama. This whole chapter is constructed, really, on Kama shouting "You bastard!" Not that there's anything wrong with that. Kama was an excellent character to introduce to the series and helps lighten things up for readers who know that the destruction of the Spirit World might soon be realized. Speaking of which, we get to see a brief stint of Mitsuki, Quan Lee, and Tam Mee. It appears that they killed three rebels, but the scene was left as a cliffhanger of sorts. Still, I don't know if it was me, but they seemed to represent was Team Rebel would be like if they failed...well, dead. Overall, this was another great chapter of Kyoshi. A. Blood, Sand, and Religion, Always a Good Combination by Twilitlink Anyone who’s read the Better World chapter, Spare the Innocent, probably noticed a rather liberal use of blood, sand, and religion with an added bonus of innocence and dealing with guilt. The chapter begins as any good piece about the guilty conscious does with a lovely scene in a cemetery. From there it goes from the Earth Kingdom Palace to the Si Wong desert. Along the way more assassins attack Aang, though these ones seem to be religious nut jobs, and Lee witnesses some brutal interrogation provided by Slythrin. There’s a lot more worth mentioning in this chapter, but I won’t spoil anything for you. “Spare the Innocent” opens the door for a number of possibilities within Better World. It hints at several conspiracies against Aang and his friends. If you look beyond Slythrin’s, Rorschach inspired, torture scene you find a man who’s been hurt by something and has learned to give it back. Lee can be seen as a clean canvas and could be painted any color, but is currently being given a layer of red, the question is will he embrace Slythrin’s words, “May thou be sanctioned by the law and the people but sanctioned for redemption”, or reject them. All in all it is almost impossible to guess where the story will go from here. If you’ve yet to read “Spare the Innocent” or any of Better World, what are you doing here, I ask you, put it in gear and start reading. Overall: A

What can I do to help?

Plenty! While the canon articles are fairly informative, there is so much you can do to help us prepare for the release of the film in July.

• Write a blog post. That is one of the biggest ways you can help us. We want to hear what you think about the film or anything related. It doesn't have to agree with what we say - in fact we'd love to hear a different opinion! Or if the film doesn't interest you - write reviews of episodes, advertise fanon or fan fiction that you've written.
• Jump into the forums and discuss the series and films with other Avatar fans! Ask your questions about the series, and answer others'! You can discuss anything about Avatar - your favourite characters, comparisons between characters and characters from other series, and much more!
• We want to hear your concerns. What aren't we doing right? What do you want to see on Avatar Wiki? Do you have any brilliant new ideas you would like to see the light of day? Tell us.

Hey Flash. I do have an interest, although I'm not sure if I will be able to manage one. First off, there haven't been many new chapters released on the wiki in the past few months and I don't quite remember extraordinary details about some of the other good ones. I would love to re-read them, but my second point is that I leave for a vacation tomorrow and will not be back until next year, so should the blog be released before 2010? If it could be late, I will do it; otherwise I might be able to manage it. Reporting a fanon vandal Edit

Hi my name is Stormfire. I'm not sure if you're the person to direct this concern towards, but recently someone, 64.53.128.213‎, has been editing my fanon and altering the story without permission and recently left a threatening message on my user page, wrongly accusing me of editing his/her pages and telling me to basically change my story or get "bad reviews". This user is also expressing the belief that my story is the basis for a future series, despite the fact that all of my pages are clearly labeled as fanon. If you are not the right user to inform about this problem I apologize, and if you could direct me to another user who can help I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to collaborate with other users who would enjoy to make FANON Histories for various characters in the Avatar Series.More specifically Avatar Kyoshi,Kuruk,and Yangchen.It would also be nice if we could make up more Avatars extended beyond the 4 we have seen.ALSO we SHOULD make FANON stories for characters the series forgot to make special recognition or interest in.These characters include Long Feng,Ursa,Ozai,Lu Ten,a younger Iroh,and also create more Fire Lords extending past Sozin.I have made out some of these characters all ready but need COLLABORATION to make the BEST WORK EVER!!!! ;))) I'm available ALMOST EVERDAY,so ask me for my email.
