  • Hi there!

I was just wondering what page reveals Ozai's age in the Library Edition of The Search (per this edit).

    Thanks!

      Loading editor
    • Finally! Sorry it took so long to respond Fruipit, technical difficulties.

Anyway, it reveals Ozai's and Ursa's ages on page 232. It says that Ozai was thirty when he married Ursa and she was 21. Since we know Azulon's age I calculated the birth years of the other two from there, as it was revealed he was 85 as this all took place.

      Hope this helped. :)

  • Hello Corin, how have you been man? It's been a very long time, you still around old friend?

Hope we can touch base again soon. I've suddenly felt an urge to return to the AW and hoping some of you guys are still left around here. Wanted to come to you first, I hope you have been well this summer. Dunno how I intend to make a full return, but hopefully soon I can. I've caught up on Book 2 and almost all of Book 3 of Korra. Maybe we can discuss both more sometime.

Talk to you soon man if you get this message, take care.

    • I remember, oh man that episode just failed at every level.  *shudders*

I agree, they started off so low but rose so high.  I'm in love with the second half of the season.

Cool! What are your thoughts on Zaheer and his gang? How do you like Lin and her dynamic with her extended family?

        Loading editor
    • It was painful. I did not enjoy it. Too much of the stuff you know I hate about this second series.

Book 2 is definitely the season that won me back, mostly thanks to its second half. It really helped make Korra feel like a legit Avatar, because early on I had a hard time buying it. And that's speaking as someone who genuinely liked her even in Book 1.

Dangerous which is great, but their philosophy is inherently flawed and impossible to fully realize, people will inevitably look for leadership in times of crisis because that's a naturally occuring part of humanity to rely on leadership.

Yes, Lin and her family are one of the season's stronger points, and that's speaking as someone who despised Lin until this season finally aired. Finally seeing a more human side to her makes her easier to watch.

    • Yes, he is a major and complete raging d-bag, a-hole. I understood where he was coming from in Book 2, however, he should have joined when they asked again.  This season he has no reason to complain.  He should just go fly a kite.

    • =O Never got into Disney? That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. Frozen convinced me to actually watch Tangled, and I have to say I was impressed, but your right that Disney has just been up and down a lot. Disney owning LucasFilm (v_v) I don't want to talk about it.

        Loading editor
    • I mean I watched the movies, but I was a rather oblivious child.  I didn't really pay attention to who made them, I just knew they existed.  I would spend more time watching documentaries and reading than anything else, I'm stranged. :P

I'm not as concerned about them owning LucasFilm.  I know a lot of people are, but I am not.  Disney knows how to listen, and it is a very conscientious company.  I have no judgement to make on the films yet, but I'm not sweating it either.

  • Hi, Corin. I just wanted to drop by and let you know that edit summaries like this aren't really constructive or helpful. Aside from the fact that it wasn't terribly written, a simple 'inaccurate – prediction was *great* grandchild' would have sufficed. Just please be aware that edit summaries like the one you gave can come off as rude, or even hurtful. There's no need for anything but facts when undoing an edit made by another user in good faith.

    • I am aware of policy, I have certainly been here long enough to know the do's and dont's.  Sometimes I just lose my mind and don't really care.  But I would like the record to show I've never given an edit summary like that before in my entire time here.

        Loading editor
    • Well, one of the don't's of the wiki is 'don't ignore policy'. This wasn't a warning, just a reminder.

    • Sorry it took so long, I was ill when I got this last night and my brain was not going to function. hahah

Anyway, the politics of Avatar kind of fascinate me so I think about it a bit.  So here is what I think.

Like you said the Fire Nation values power and strength and the Royal family is suppose to be the epitome of power and firebending prowess. I think perhaps you might be confused with historically and presently in the nation.  Like in most countries that have, or had, monarchies the origin is usualy diffined by one thing.  The leader who united the different tribes or families or yadda yadda yadda.  The person who unites the fudeing sides, like what happened in England, becomes the king and usually the person who does the uniting is the strongest.

We know that the Fire Nation has gone through different dynastys and the royal family is the strongest line of benders, especially since Ursa introduced the Avatar blood line into the mix.  So the Fire Nation, in a round-about sort of way, still is based on the strength of its leader.

The Earth Kingdom is a different story, they have a totally different goverment system and we know very little about the history of the Earth Kingdom.  Like the Fire Nation the Earth Kingdom's monarchy could have been derived from power based leaders but eventually the prowess that they once had was genetically ousted, though most likely not intetionaly.  The Fire Nation went through dynastys, different families (though the exact nature is ambiguous,) This may not be the case with the Earth Kingdom, they may have never been different familes and it is a clear distinct line from the present, to the first rulers.  Also, since we do not know how the monarchy arised in the EK, it could be that they were elected leaders (kind of like the pope) but then their children took over after wards.  There are countries that have a hybrid between an elected monarchy and inherited monarchy.  This could be the EK.

Like the EK the Water Tribe could work similarly or it could work like the FN, straight on inherited positions but like the EK, we know very little.  We know this isn't the case for the Southern Water Tribe as it is my understanding Hakoda was elected and we know Tonraq was as well.  The North could be different.  It was hinted that Yue would inhiret after Arnook but her husband would be the chief, kind of like historic Scotland.  And Tonraq would have taken over for his father if he wasn't banished, but we know Unalaq did pick it up after the death of the father.   That hints to me that the North works like the FN, inherited and kept in the family.  Father, passes to child, and so on and so on.  We know the North tended to be sexist and valued males over women.  So for an example: Arnook passes, Yue marrys Han, they take over but Han is chief despite the Royalty being from Yue's blood.

Now the next logical step would be bridging the gap between Arnook to Korra's grandfather.  Since the North seems to inherit I could see Korra's grandfather being a nephew or a cousin of Arnook.  Like what happened in England, after Queen Elizabeth I death the crown went to her Aunt's great grandson as he was closest to the throne, as Elizabeth had no remaining siblings, nor did she have children.  The crown went from her to her father's (Henry VIII) sister Mary Tudor, who had married the King of Scotland, James IV, but since she and James IV, their son James V and their granddaughter Mary, Queen of Scots were dead the crown went to Elizabeth's 3rd cousin James VI, king of Scotland and now England and Wales as well.   Did you follow all that hahaha? I know the royal stuff can get confusing.

Oh my, you had a come to Zuko moment!? (Jesus pun intended) I've always liked Zuko but I understand where you come from about over crediting him more than the other characters.  Just between you and me I feel very similarly about Aang, that is kind of why I love the idea that he was a sucky dad, knocks down the Aang worshipers a lot. hahaha But that is awesome, personaly I think all the characters are delightful but some do over value some over the others, which is annoying.

    • It's okay lol :) In fact, I'm sorry for taking this long haha.

Perhaps that is true about the Fire Nation. But, also, even back before the Fire Nation went all evil, we saw in Roku's flashback that Sozin was a very good firebender, himself. In fact, Sozin attacked Roku, despite getting owned and the attack being a surprise, with a huge flame attack. I mean, that was a monstrous attack. Indeed, Roku countered it well, but Roku is also the Avatar. Also, when they were younger, before Roku knew that he was the Avatar, Sozin would always gain the upper hand on him in their friendly firebending practice. Thus, maybe your uniting thing is true, but I definitely think that they look at power in the Fire Nation. I mean, they did make a sport out of killing their own original source of firebending hehe.

Yes, yes, it is lol. I mean, before Sozin, the Fire Nation was obviously a peaceful place with people who loved the idea of balance. In fact, only Chin threatened the balance, so far as we know, before Sozin's time. So, I agree that unification was most probably a core value of becoming the leader of the Fire Nation haha.

To be honest, the Earth King, himself, so far as we've seen in A:TLAB, is quite oblivious, powerless, and dependent on his guards, like the Dai Li haha. I mean, remember how Kuei didn't know anything about the political issues in Ba Sing Se and Azula being a Kyoshi Warrior until it was too late? Even the Earth King during Kyoshi's time was pretty dependent, if you think about it. Do you get what I'm saying? He ordered the guards to seize Kyoshi and, after she effortlessly swatted them, he was helpless and pathetic against her. Power is definitely not a thing. I mean, otherwise, freaking Bumi would be ruling not his city, but the entire Earth Kingdom lol XD But, in short, I tend to agree with you that the Earth Kingdom hierarchy is rather ambiguous and esoteric in terms of how it actually works. Haha hopefully this season will give more insight :D Agreed?

Yes, the North did tend to be sexist. You know what I wonder, though? Does the North also value power in order to determine its leader the way that the Fire Nation does? Remember how Katara is the daughter of the Southern Chief? I mean, she's a pretty damn strong waterbender, although she's from the South Pole lol. I guess that, like how Combustion Man is the only firebender who can fight well against most members of the Fire Nation Royal Family, like the elite like Iroh, Azula, Ozai, etc., Tarrlok and Noatak are the few waterbenders who are stronger than Unalaq and Tonraq haha. I think that the North also functions on power, because, except for a few exceptions here and there, it seems that the Royal Family of the North consisted of the strongest waterbenders around, like Unalaq. So, I think that the North functions on power, like how the FN does. Just my two cents lol :) Hehe isn't it cool how the opposite elements, fire and water, function similarly? They parallel each other XD Like how Katara and Azula are parallel lol.

Haha I did follow :) No worries :D That does make sense. And I also think that Korra is a descendant of Arnook, because there's no reason to think that there is a new Royal Water Tribe Family. Know what I'm saying? I actually thought, for a while, that Tarrlok might be a distant cousin of Unalaq, because have you noticed their uncanny resemblance? I mean, I guess that, since they're both from the same part of the world, they look alike. Kind of like how Korra looks like young Katara and Noatak's and Tarrlok's mom looks like Katara's mom. But I kind of wish that we'd gotten to know whether Unalaq had any kind of association with Tarrlok, because the two looked alike, were both kind of devious in their roles, and both hailed from the Northern Water Tribe. Although Tarrlok is awesome, rather than devious, because he was just misled :P

I mean, I don't want to refer to it as that, because I'm still not crazy about Zuko. In all honesty, I still like him generally less in comparison to the other characters, especially since he's rather slow and dimwitted, but he's getting there. He's average imo. I don't see him as anything special. If I hear anyone put him down, then I won't rush to defend him, like how I would with Katara. Actually, you know what I hate? How a lot of fans don't like Katara and think that she's a bitch or something. Some people hate her for defeating Azula. And usually these people hate Zuko. It's funny, because, without Katara, the future Firelord would have been Azula -_- She saved him. Also, I ahte when they call her whiny, because her whininess is absolutely nothing in comparison to Zuko's. And her problems were pretty major. I mean, the girl was the last freaking waterbender of her tribe, had a ship haunting her tribe since her childhood, and had her mother literally scorched to death in order to keep her life safe. Zuko, on the other hand, grew up as a prince on the winning side of the war with some emotional problems. Thus, I don't exactly love Zuko, but, before, he was a 1 from 1-10 on my character list, but, now, he's a 5 haha.

Speaking of ratings from 1-10, what do you overall rate CN, Nick, and Disney? For me, it's: CN: 10 Nick: 10 Disney: 2 It really bothers me, though, that Disney makes more money and has more popularity than the other two combined -_-

  • Please include references on your newly created pages as to where you got the name confirmation from, thank you.

      Loading editor
    • I was getting there.

        Loading editor
    • Since pages are normally created with the references already on them and since they aren't added yet, it was easy to assume that you had forgotten about them, hence the message. If you hadn't, then that's great.

        Loading editor
    • No I had not forgotten, I just hate referencing, and I suck at it.  So whenever I create a new page I make the page then worry about the references.

        Loading editor
    • What I found helpful when I first started referencing was going to a similar page, copy and pasting the references from there and then just changing all the parameters. Because I found that trying to write them out from scratch was not gonna work xD

You could also just note the sources on the edit summary? I'm sure if referencing is something you don't enjoy, someone else would be willing to add them right on given the links and such :)
