Mako is a firebender from a multicultural family[2] who grew up on the streets of Republic City as an orphan with his younger brother, Bolin.[3] When his brother introduces him to Avatar Korra, his tightly controlled world gets a little more chaotic.[4]

History Edit

Background Edit

When Mako was eight, Mako's parents were killed by a firebending thug right in front of him, leaving Bolin as his only family, and his treasured red scarf as the only memento of his father.[5] He was forced to take on adult responsibilities from that point on, costing him his childhood. He had to often use his firebending to keep him and Bolin protected on the streets.[1]

As an orphan, Mako did whatever he felt he must in order to survive and protect his brother. This attitude brought him in contact with the Triple Threat Triad, for whom he was an accountant of sorts, though he never did anything outright illegal throughout his employment. After a while, the cooperation between the Triple Threats and the two brothers came to an end, and, acknowledging the dangerous nature and moral ambiguity of their past, Mako was determined never to return to that life and explicitly forbade Bolin from associating with the Triple Threats in any way.[6]

Mako and his brother first began competing in the pro-bending tournaments when a former pro-bender, Toza, discovered Mako fighting in the streets. Toza offered the brothers a place to live in the attic of the arena and let them work odd jobs to pay rent, which allowed them to focus on pro-bending. Mako eventually became the captain of their pro-bending team, the Fire Ferrets.[7][8][9]

Meeting Korra Edit

Initially, Mako scarcely acknowledged Korra, assuming her to be another of Bolin's "fangirls". This caused the two of them to get off on the wrong foot; however, he later impressed Korra when he single-handedly defeated the Golden Temple Tigerdillos in the third round of a pro-bending match. Still, he seemed indifferent to Korra's presence even after he learned that she was the Avatar.

When Hasook didn't show for the final match prior to the tournament, he rejected Korra's offer to join the team, saying he would rather be disqualified than made a fool. However, Korra and Bolin ignored Mako's objections and Korra joined the team, much to Mako's annoyance in the first two rounds as it took her a while to catch on to the pace of the game and its rules. However, after Korra held her own against a barrage in round three, enabling them to win the match with a knock-out, Mako thanked her, and for the first time truly accepted and complimented her.[10]

Saving Bolin Edit

Later, Mako, Bolin, and Korra were practicing for the tournament early in the morning when Butakha, the owner of the arena came to give the team their winnings of the last match. However, Mako saw this money disappear as swiftly as it came as Butakha immediately deducted their arrears and informed the team that they had to pay thirty thousand yuans for the championship's pot in order to play in the tournament or they would be disqualified. Bolin suggested that he could let Pabu perform circus tricks at Central City Station, but Mako shot this idea down, commenting that he'd figure something out as usual and found work in a power company. When he returned to the arena after a hard day's work, he could not find Bolin. Believing he was with Korra, he traveled to Air Temple Island to ask her for his location. At her negation, they decided to go looking for him through the city. In Central City Station, they met Skoochy, who told them he had been recruited to the Triple Threat Triad. When Mako and Korra made it to the gang's headquarters, they learned that Bolin had been captured by the Equalists in a raid and then set out to rescue him. However, their encounter with two Equalist chi blockers ended in their defeat. Due to Naga's intervention, they remained unharmed and traveled on to Republic City Park to find the protestor, who told them that Bolin was likely taken to the Equalist rally called "The Revelation".

At the rally, they discovered that Amon was going to demonstrate his power to take away bending forever on the kidnapped Triad members and Bolin. In order to save his brother, Mako ordered Korra to make a large sheet of steam erupt from devices in the side of the rally hall, which distracted the Equalists and allowed himself to rescue Bolin. When the brothers got outside, their escape was thwarted by the intervention of the Lieutenant, who attacked and overpowered them with his electrified kali sticks. Before he could do further damage, Korra disabled him with her earthbending and helped Mako and Bolin escape on Naga.[6]

Meeting the Satos Edit

A few days after the events of the Equalist rally, Mako was hit by a moped driven by Asami Sato when he ran across the street without looking. She quickly helped him to stand up and apologized. Although initially angered by the crash, Mako lost his train of thought and his temper the moment he laid eyes on Asami. After she recognized him as a pro-bender, she asked him on a date to Kuang's Cuisine as a part of her apology. Initially, Mako was hesitant, stating he did not have the proper attire for such a formal setting. However, Asami assured him that it would be taken care of, and Mako agreed, appearing love struck as Asami left.

Upon his arrival at the restaurant later that evening, Mako was given suitable clothes. When the waiter attempted to removed Mako's scarf, he immediately stopped him. The waiter complied with the order and showed Mako the table where Asami was already waiting for him. During their date, Mako learned she was the daughter of the successful industrialist, Hiroshi Sato, and was invited by her to personally meet him, an offer Mako gladly accepted. When Mako met Hiroshi the next day at Future Industries, the industrialist informed Mako that, after hearing Asami about his team and its financial problems, he had decided he would sponsor the Fire Ferrets' bid in the pro-bending tournament, provided that they would bear Future Industries' logo on their uniforms.

Mako later went with Asami to a gala in honor of Korra hosted by Councilman Tarrlok. Their relationship continued to blossom afterwards, and one of their dates took them to Republic City Park for a carriage ride. During this ride, Asami wondered why Mako never wore the scarf she had purchased for him. He confided in her the importance of his red scarf, being that it was the last reminder of his father he still possessed.[5]

Struggles Edit

On the eve of their first match of the pro-bending tournament, Bolin asked Mako's opinion about the idea of him dating Korra. Mako at first mistook the question as Bolin asking him what the former would think of dating the Avatar, but after Bolin inquired that the question was about himself and Korra, Mako was against it, contradictingly said it wasn't a good idea to date a teammate. Meanwhile, Mako continued to remain involved with Asami, leaving a training session early to spend time with her.

After the Fire Ferrets scored a convincing round one victory over the Red Sands Rabaroos, Korra spilled out her feelings to Mako, who apologized in return and stated that he didn't feel the same for her. Though she was discouraged, Bolin cheered her up and took her out for a night in Republic City. Although Asami was with him, Mako eyed them glumly as his teammates left the dressing room together. Following this, Korra returned to an irritated Mako, and they soon started an argument. Mako claimed that he was only worried about what Korra was doing with Bolin as he was looking out for him and didn't want to see his brother get his heart broken. However, Korra accused him of being jealous, and the two departed angrily.

Their conflict almost caused the Fire Ferrets to lose their next match due to lack of teamwork, as neither of them were focused on the task at hand. When the match was brought to a tiebreaker, Bolin overruled Mako's decision to fight it out, which proved to be a smart move. After the match, Mako approached Korra and admitted to having feelings for her, but that he was confused because he liked Asami as well. He was interrupted when Korra suddenly lunged forward and kissed him. Although surprised by her actions, Mako sincerely returned the kiss. However, their romantic moment was witnessed by Bolin, who quickly fled the scene tearfully with a broken heart. After blaming Korra for the entire situation as she was the instigator of the kiss, he gave chase.

The next day, Mako discovered that his brother had spent the night at Narook's Seaweed Noodlery. Bolin refused to come home with him, stating that he was no longer his brother, rather a "brother-betrayer"; however, Mako carried Bolin out of the establishment against his will. The older brother emphasized again that "dating a teammate was a bad idea", to which Bolin weakly responded, "You're a bad idea!".

The growing rift and mixed feelings began to divide the team, and they struggled valiantly in the semifinals. Mako even inadvertently hit Bolin in round two, and the team lost both rounds by a large margin. In round three, Mako was knocked out of the ring early for a second time, and an injured Bolin soon followed. Mako helped his brother out of the water, and as they ascended to the locker room with the elevator, they apologized for letting what happened with Korra divide them. They then watched Korra score an improbable hat trick to advance the team to the finals. When Korra joined them, Mako thanked her sincerely for not giving up on the team, and the team promised each other that they could still be friends despite of all the confusion.[11]

The championship Edit

As Mako and his teammates prepared for the final match, they heard Amon interrupt a radio broadcast and threaten the United Republic Council with "severe consequences" if they allowed the tournament to continue. Korra and the team rode to City Hall on Naga to try and stop the council from making this decision, but by the time they arrived, they learned that the council had unanimously agreed to do so, much to their disappointment. Fortunately, just before Tarrlok declared the decision final, Lin Beifong entered City Hall. Demanding the council show backbone and allow the tournament to continue, Lin offered the security of the Metalbending Police Force. The council agreed to Lin's offer, and to the Fire Ferrets' excitement, the match continued as planned.

The championship proved to be a closely contended but controversially officiated match. The White Falls Wolfbats committed a series of illegal moves, which even prompted Mako to suspect that they had paid off the match's official. The Fire Ferrets lost via knockout in round three. After the match, the Equalists attacked the arena, primarily through use of electrified kali sticks and electrified gloves. These attacks also stunned the still water-bound Fire Ferrets, who were then tied up to a wooden post supporting the ring.

Fortunately for the team, Pabu was lurking in the vicinity. Bolin called the fire ferret over and motioned him to bite through the rope, which Mako initially dismissed as his brother making childish animal talk. After Pabu's successful rescue, Mako and Bolin made their way to the arena's concourse and anxiously waited Korra's return from pursuing Amon and the Equalists. When Korra returned following her rescue by Lin, Mako was the first to greet Korra with a big hug. He also told her that he was glad she was safe.[12]

Personality Edit

Having a stoic and brooding personality, Mako is generally aloof and indifferent, though he is not incapable of genuine kindness and a protective demeanor. He tends to be critical and controlling, stemming from a life on the streets and a drive to protect his little brother, which forced him to take on adult responsibilities at a young age. In light of the brothers' pasts, he cares deeply for Bolin and is very protective of him.[10] Living on the streets has given him a "hard-edge".[7] He seems to loosen up a bit when he is with Bolin, Korra, or Asami, or when he achieves something. For instance, when Butakha gave him the winnings of the previous tournament, Mako had a large grin on his face.[6]

Abilities Edit

Firebending Edit

Water SpoutAdded by Water Spout

Mako has shown considerable skill in the art of firebending, implementing a modern style of fighting that he uses predominantly in the pro-bending arena. Critics of the sport note his use of a distinct "cool under fire" technique, primarily involving a series of defensive weaving and dodging followed by quick successive spurts of offense. This technique in combination with his superior agility proves to be extremely effective, rendering Mako capable of defeating an entire pro-bending team by himself.[10] Mako is also skilled enough to generate lightning, which he uses at his job at the city's power plant.[6]

Other skills Edit

Mako also has a considerable amount of raw physical strength, which was made evident when he effortlessly launched an Equalist agent across a great distance and when picking up Bolin by tossing him over his shoulder to take him home.[6][11]

Trivia Edit

  • Mako is named after Mako Iwamatsu, the man who voiced Iroh from Book 1: Water to Book 2: Earth, but died shortly after finishing his lines for Book 2.[2] His name is a shortened form of the Japanese name Makoto (信), meaning "faithfulness".
  • The creators commented that Mako reminded them of Zuko, but without the angst.[2]
  • Mako's "cool under fire" style of pro-bending bears similarities to the defensive styles of boxing, and the styles of iconic boxers such as Willie Pep and Muhammad Ali.
  • Mako's dark childhood is similar to that of Katara, Sokka, Amon, Jet, and Aang as all six of them have lost family members to firebenders. However, while Katara and Sokka only lost their mother, Mako and Jet's parents - and in Amon's case, his entire family - were murdered right in front of them, though on the other hand, Aang lost his entire people to firebenders while he was sealed in an iceberg. Jet and Mako also both lost their family at age eight.
  • Mako's history is similar to Batman's in the sense that both their parents were mugged and murdered in front of them at the age of eight.
  • Mako seems to show no regret for his powers, even though his parents were killed by a firebender.
  • Mako's scarf is very similar to Katara's necklace in the way that it is the sole memento of a deceased parent, although Mako's scarf came from his father while Katara's necklace came from her mother.

  • Why are some poeple comparing LOK with twilight! please people, LOK doesnt deserve this much of an insult! Twilight is such a cheap piece of writing that its not even worth calling 'literature'.

i really like LOK cause of its strong females and their equally badass personailities. not like silly bella swan who needs her 'bf' 24/7 to guard her! i dont think i wanna go back to the 19th century please!

also twilight has NO plot! LOK has a very strong storyline! dont give such an insult to such an awesome show!

    -MK

    • Agreed. Neither LoK nor Twilight are the first works of fiction to have love triangles, nor will they be the last. Comparing the two for just that reason isn't really fair.

    • I agree with you. Avatar should stay in the avatar world while twilight should stay in its vampire world. We shouldn't compare them. Besides that they are fiction, they're two different things. As far as I know, benders aren't vampires or werewolves. And vampires and werewolves can't bend

  • toph getting raped, zuko and mako related, Tahno and korra becoming a couple! (ewww... -.-)

seriously how stupid will some fans get!

  • Mako is related to Zuko through Ursa. When Ursa was banished she married another man who had a child who became one of Mako's parents.

  • does anyone else think that Mako is adopted and he is Zuko's grandson?

    • Nononononononononononononononononono. He is NOT his grandson. Just scrolll down a little bit and see my comment to another person who said the same thing, or I'll just re paste it here if you still don't believe me.

    • NO NO NO and NNNOOO!!!!

why are you guys so stupid as to believe that Mako and Zuko are related! its as stupid as saying that now in LOK katara will marry zuko now that Aang is dead! -.-

      -MK

  • ang=korra katara=makko sokka=bolin toph=tenzin appa=naga momo=pabu jet=asami amon=ozayi or azula

  • I have a theroy:

So we have five teenagers. Mako likes Asami and she likes him back and they are together. I'm feeling really strong that Korra will become tired of waiting for her prine charming(Mako) and well I think Tahno might have a little thing for Korra so I think Tahno will be Korra's rebound because it wouldn't be right if she dated Bolin because well I don't think I need to explain. What do you smart people think????

      • Facepalm* *Facepalm Facepalm Facepalm Facepalm* What the heck?!? Okay I'm sorry but Tahno and Korra, SERIOUSLY?!?!? NO! They are rivals! RIVALS!!!!!!!!!! That's almost as crazy as pairing Amon with Korra!!!
    • If you recall there is a "leak" episode title called Tahno's love triads (Hoping for that one), he might be a candidate for Makko's love rivals.

    • Tahno is just too little and too late to have any shot at Korra. Not to mention the implications if Korra gets together with him now. Talk about a pity date.

Tahno is just not the type of character to get romantically involved with a main character. He was a mid boss, an antagonist. Sure we can feel bad he lost his bending, and maybe he will turn over a new leaf now that he has lost it, but I doubt this will entirely eliminate the bad blood between them. Korra will always remember that the only reason Tahno changed at all was because he lost his bending, not exactly something that instills confidence in a person.

Now, this is not impossible, but again we are already more than half of the way through the season at this point, and this first season was originally meant to be self contained which means that Korra's pairing (if she gets one) will be determined by the end of the season. And Tahno just came in too late, has little character development other than "the jerk", and is only becoming more decent due to circumstances and not because he truly wanted to change. And frankly, if Korra DOES choose Tahno when she basically snubbed a much nicer and more likeable person like Bolin, she will be an utter moron and a rather poor example for young female viewers everywhere (on the same level as Bella Swan, and that is a very very low bar).

    • Hm, Tahno came before the brothers even entered our view... Now, i'm not a great shipper, sure Tahno was an antagonist but he could change (zuko in Atla). At the moment it would be wrong if Korra ended with Bolin as rebound, because the 3 put their friendship first.

    • The "leaked" episode titles have been positively disproven.

  • This is adorable but if you go onto "the spirt of competion" page and look at character relations or whatever it's called and it says mako is trying to keep his love for Korra a secret from Asami and Bolin

  • I think it would be very interesting that in the second season or one of the final episodes in this season, we could see a flashback or memory of Mako and Bolin's parents and the life they had. That would be so interesting.

  • Don't judge a girl by her cover even though you've met the girl font judge her by the cloths she wears or by the way she looks. That is to mako about asami if you object leave a reply BFFL if your out there email me at 8:00 on gmail

  • why do people think Mako and zuko are related! there not! no chance in history! never never never!!!! im not being harsh, but, you guys need to no that we would no if they were related by now! so please know that there NOT RELATED!!!!!!

  • Mako has a red scarf that he carries around very dearly resembles the scarf that belongs to Zuko's mother which he finds in their old home in "The Last Airbender". Zuko may have had 2 kids, one who went to the city and the other went to be the heir to the Fire kingdom. The one that went to Republic City met and fell in love with an Earthbender and bore two children, Mako and Bolin. Though the series has not introduced Zuko's family line yet, im willing to bet we'll meet Zuko's other son who turns out to be Mako and Bolin's uncle after he discovers the scarf Mako is wearing. Another justification is the absense of talk of Zuko's family. After the mention of Zuko's mother, we are immediately abrupted by Tenzin's daughter further leaving mystery to what may have happened.

    • that sounds VERY realistic, but we'll see. ( nice theory!)

    • Its a scarf, not a family heirloom. You can buy one at any store that sells clothing. If they were Zuko's grandchildren, they'd be closer to Tenzin's children's ages.

    • well for one Dragonfire333, Mako got the scarf from his father, so it's not just any scarf to Mako.

    • I feel like I'm such a broken record with this, but I'll say it all again. There is no chance that he is Zuko's grandson or related to him in any way, and definetely not his child. He would be, at the youngest, fourty years old, and it's also been confirmed on Nick that Zuko only had one child: a daughter. And the scarf was his father's not some some long-lost family heirloom it was his father's. Not only did the directors say that that no one in this series would have any royal roots (they don't want to just repeat the same story as A:TLA), but it doesn't work with the story line. And before you start saying that maybe he could be Zuko's grandchild, Mako's parents were a firebender and an earthbender (or at least from those nations) so then they had Bolin and Mako; they look to much alike not to be related and we don't even know if Zuko's daughter is a bender at all. And we all know that it's impossible for Azula to have a daughter. She probably rotted in jail for the rest of her natural days.

Plus if you come back with, well maybe they're not dead they just went missing! If Mako went missing don't you think that they would've sent a massive search out for him, and how far could he really only a small child go since he's on the island where the Fire Nation capital is? And the palace is a closed-off place with anything a royal would need, so I don't think Zuko's daughter would have just plopped him outside of the walls and then walked all the way back into the palace. And if she did, she would have left a guard/s there to watch over him. Not much place to really travel. And everyone on that isand would most likely know what he looks like, and he'd be dressed in royal, well-dressed clothing so obviously he's a wealthy baby's family so I don't think some family would just pick him up and take him like he's their own child. They'd probably take him to an orphanage or know who he was right away and give him back.

And, if all of those coincidences SOMEHOW managed to happen, then don't you think we would have at least gotten a hint of that yet? Maybe Mako and/or Bolin feeling like he doesn't belong or him having suspicions about his true heritage, or some murmur of the still on-going search for the Prince even after 17+ years that was coming to Republic City? And, like I said earlier, Zuko had only one daughter and she's still alive being the firelord while both of Mako's parents are dead. There is no other person to pass along his genes to but through his daughter and I highly doubt that she would have married an Earthbender since one of Bolin's parents has to be an Earthbender in order for it to work. Besides, there's already so much going on in this 26-episode (although there is talk for more) series that not only can they not fit that in and that Mako is still interesting enough on his own, but the directors are smart enough to not follow the same mantra as A:TLA. They're continuing it, sure, but they want it to stand on its own.

I hope this is the last time I ever have to say this.

    • yeah i know there not related thats what i was saying about the scarf, theres no single way there related, because if they were we would know by now!

    • I know the scarf is like a family heirloom for Mako but its not from Zuko's family or anything like that

    • yeah, ok, but please no that Mako and Zuko ARE NOT related!

    • Interesting, very interesting, but in Zuko's file it only says that he had an unamed daughter and passed the throne to her and then retired and spent his last days traveling the world.

    • Think about it. Dante Basco (voice actor who played Zuko for those who do not know) has been confirmed to be in LOK and he will be playing a person related to zuko in someway. Mako has a different voice actor so that proves that mako is not the person related to zuko.

    • Given that we know that Zuko is alive in the current timeline, Dante Basco playing a character "tied" to Zuko likely is a coy way of the writers saying that he will be playing Zuko. They, of course, didn't want to tip their hand too early, hence the misleading 'tied to' remark, but now that we know that Zuko is currently alive, it seems pretty obvious that Basco will be playing Zuko himself.

    • They are not related the way that people say they are. The only POSSIBLE way they could be is if Zuko's mother had another child after she was exiled, and that child was Mako and Bolin parent. Unlikly just becasue I think that Zuko would seek out his family mebers and help them, proving that he knows they exist. I think people are reading into the scaf so much honestly.

    • Or Azulas... If they ever let her out of the mental facility.

    • It is a pretty good theory but I HIGHLY doubt that Mako and Zuko are related. In the beginning I thought they were but now I can see that they are not related.

  • Mako, taco, what's the diff?

    🐙🐙 zukospickledhead

  • He's so much like Zuko. There's probably no relation, though.

    • NONONONO. There is absoltely NO relation between them, so please don't go there.

    • Isote^ I know that you've had to say that every time someone has brought that up

    • Nooo Mako actually smiles and isnt socially awkward. (No offense Zuko I love u)

    • Ugh I know. There is really no way they could be related. If people just thought about it then it'd be pretty obvious to them as much as it is to me.

  • Why didn't Mako and the other benders in the stands have no action in episode 6 against the equalists after the metal-benders were shocked, i am pretty sure there are benders in the crowd watching pro-bending, it's like watching a policeman getting beat up and walking past him as thugs beat the crap out of them.( That would be funny)

    • First off Mako and Bolin were shocked unconscious, and even when they were released, stuck under the stadium. And it's not that hard to figure out. If you're a bender and you see people who have just shocked and taken down, arguably, THE MOST EFFICENT FIGHTING FORCE IN REPUBLIC CITY, in a matter of seconds and there's a man down there yelling about how he's going to take away bending permanently are you really going to stand up and try and fight them and risk losing something as precious to you as an arm or a leg, maybe even more? No, you're going to book your butt out of there with everyone else when they allow you to leave.

    • yeah im with isolte here, and why would bolin and mako want to lose there bending!

    • i know what your saying and you have valid points, but just says there is only one man out of all the Equalists who can take away your bending, and from what can be concluded bending means you have some form of martial arts so i would guess the people in the stands *could* had helped. Also, united they stand against a handful of Equalists.

    • So If a large group of people showed up attacking several a sports team at a game you were at your first thought would be, "I need to go fight them"

    • While maybe united they could have done something ( I still don't think they could've beated the Equalists) they didn't have the backup plan that you're suggesting of, "Hey! If we all get taken down then we'll attack them instead!" and they had no set plan, no way of attack or who goes where and does what against whom. These people were watching a pro-bending match, not ready to fight themselves, espically with Amon's threat looming over their heads. Even if he's one man, it's like if a man in a group of people started waving a gun around. Sure it might be him against 100 other people, which should be a disadvantage, but he has the gun so he wins. When people are in a group and something like that happens, then the mob mentality of "oh crap I gotta get out of here!" (basically flight) takes over instead of the individual "oh crap I should fight these guys!" Really there was nothing they could have done.

    • ^ That was me

  • Mako is a boss, keeps going no matter what.

  • Eh, just because Mako's an introvert, doesn't mean he doesn't have a personality. He's more repressed, to ~balance out Bolin and Korra. Mai often got the same kind of criticism just because she was the 'quiet' one.

  • I can't believe the creators are going to have Mako's character do that. It's a really sick twist and if true, would really make me stop watching the series. Aborting Amon's spirit baby wtf???? That's really messed up.

  • is it me or did these characters recovered really quickly from their heartbreak even for a cartoon character? O.o i know these series are supposed to be rushed but still, this quick! one moment they cant even face each other and the other they are now hugging each other as friends! one user was right when he said that one thing just disappears and then suddenly appears some epis later! its not making sense!

one of the reasons i am in love with LOK and ATLA and like Bryke so much is that they are very realistic in their approach in these cartoons, yes bending and other stuff is there but the character development and other emotions shown in ATLA almost made it realistic. but LOK with every passing moment is loosing that grace of ATLA.

please dont get me wrong! i love LOK but its things like these which are being miraculously being cleared up that is making this show silly in some sense

    • MK, it's not losing that grace, it's just becoming a new show. It's trying to be its own name in the Avatar series and they can't do that without walking that thin line. And losing its grace? Did we even watch the same episode last week? That was, arguably, the best of the season so far and had some beautiful action scenes and really is getting in depth with its themes and plots. You're suffering from something I like to call, The End of A:TLA syndrome and making it unfair to this new series. You're looking at the end TLA with all of the nostalgia that comes with it and comparing it to the beginning of this one when you should be comparing the beginning of A:TLA to the start of Korra. Once you do that, you can clearly see how much better Korra already is in basically everything: animation, music, charater development, themes, everything. Give it more of a chance.

    • The 3 put their Friendship first, and that's all we're gonna see for now. Besides, it must be painful to see the guy who kissed you and told you he liked you, going back to the other woman. So it's sure a bit weird but i don't see how showing it would help the story at the moment.

    • @Isolte, woah! stop! i am NOT suffering from any ATLA syndrome! i never was obsessed with that show! im with LOK however!! what i meant by losing its 'grace' is not that its losing its overall any charm with me but instead that only the character development is a bit confusing. just as i pointed out, in one scene they cant even face each other and the other, they are so friendly again. its a bit wayy too rushed. no one can recover this quickly even if they wanted to!

however over all i DO agree that music, graphics etc, everything is better than the previous show. (plus i am sooo glad they had a female badass protagonist for once and not a girly damsel in distress female character) just as i said above, only the character development is not what i like

also i am NOT comparing LOK with the end of ATLA; if i was then i would be saying 'why cant they bend properly. i like the previous show's bending better' and other such comments that some fans here are saying. I know that they need time and you cant just compare the beginning of one show with the end of its successor. it took katare almost two books to become a proper bender.
