Avatar Comics are official comics released in Nick's magazine and later in nickmag.com. They are visual publications that depict events and situations not seen in the series, but that occur during pauses between episodes.
Some reveal certain key information pertaining to the story, such as Joo Dee's immediate appointment as the Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se and the exact method of how Team Avatar obtained a Fire Nation vessel, which they utilized in the early stages of the third book.
Several other comics also release new information on canonical characters. A draft of one of the comics, for example, shows an image of Kuzon, a character previously mentioned by Aang, but was never seen during the series. The image leaked in this draft remains as the only official image of Kuzon.
To date, there are twenty-nine comics that have been released to the public. All but two comics, which are listed at the bottom of this page, are considered canon.

Book One: Water
"Bee Calm" bee calm
- Story: Josh Hamilton and John O'Bryan.

Team Avatar is lost in the forest, with only a broad knowledge of where they are, when all of a sudden a scorpion bee flies onto Aang's nose. Aang states he has a special connection with nature, then has some more "nature" cover his entire body. Katara says that Scorpion bees are not the friendliest of insects, but, convinced the Scorpion bees will not sting him, he does not move or make any loud noises. Until Momo, frightened by Aang now covered by Scorpion bees, yells causing them to prepare to sting Aang. Aang quickly uses airbending to get the bees off of him, but they then chase him while on his air scooter. After getting them off of his trail with airbending and some tactics, he then runs into a Fire Nation soldier. The soldier threatens Aang with a sword, until he and Aang notice Aang has another Scorpion bee on his shirt. The insect then flies onto the soldier's nose, leaving the soldier scared, while Aang runs away.
"Water War"

After watching two boys soak innocent pedestrians at an Earth Kingdom market, Katara decides to use her waterbending to teach the boys a lesson. After pretending to be another innocent passerby, Katara waited for the boys to throw water balloons. She quickly returns them, surprising both the boys and the villagers. With another swift move, she sends a large blob of water toward the boys, and uses it to drench them in water. Katara, now being applauded by the other citizens in the market, exclaims that only a moron would challenge a waterbender to a water war. As she says this, Sokka is seen sneaking behind her, carrying a loaded water balloon.
Goofs
- Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Lost Adventures groups this comic under the Book 1 section despite the fact that Katara and Sokka are wearing their Book 2 outfits.
"Don't Blow It!"

Aang wakes up with a case of sniffles, causing him to sneeze and blow himself into the air every time it happens. Katara offers Aang a solution, a special slime, that helped her when she was a little girl. Aang refuses, after hearing from Sokka that the paste was quite gross, and says that monks let these "blow themselves out". While sneezing one time, nearby Fire Nation soldiers spot Aang and launch a fireball, barely missing him. The soldiers track him to the gang's camp, and they barely make their escape. That night, Aang is seen strapped down with the slime on his chest. Sokka starts to make fun of Aang, but then sneezes himself. Resigned, he asks for the slime.
"Relics"

Team Avatar arrives at a small Earth Kingdom trading village during their journey to the North Pole in order to get supplies. While there, Aang meets a Merchant who attempts to sell him an ancient Air Nomad necklace. The Merchant informs him that the necklace is in fact not ancient, and the seller had recently traded it for medicinal supplies. Aang finds out that the necklace comes from caves in the mountains and, while Katara and Sokka are sleeping, sneaks off in order to investigate. In the cave, Aang finds many Air Nomad artifacts, but also finds the Fire Nation Admiral, Zhao. Zhao quickly captures Aang and shows him the Merchant helped lure him into the cave, much like some of the Air Nomad Genocide survivors were lured into the caves and killed by Sozin. However, using the artifacts in the cave, Aang manages to free himself and get back to Katara and Sokka, who have been searching for him. The comic ends with a short conversation between Aang and Katara:
"This place reminds you of home, right? All these mountains... Airbenders would have loved to stay here. They would have been attracted to the place."

"Fruit Stand Freestyle"

Momo comes across a fruit stand filled with fresh fruit. In his attempts to retrieve some, he gets chased around by the owner's crazed boar-q-pine. Momo eventually outwits the beast and gets his fruit.
Book Two: Earth
"Sleepbending"

While Team Avatar is asleep camping in the forest, Aang starts to dream about riding an animal in the sky, and on the ocean. This ends up causing his body to bend, and he starts to manipulate the earth, air, and water around him. The group wakes up, and tries to overcome the power of his bending, until Aang wakes up, unaware of what had happened.
"Lessons"

Toph tries to teach Aang to listen to the earth while trying to get Sokka to stay out of their way. Sokka complies, but eventually gets in a squabble with Momo and Appa which causes him to chase after the two, and through Toph's ability, this starts to deafen her. She then earthbends a huge column of rock underneath him causing him to be stuck tens of feet up. Later that day, it is shown he is still stuck, and Toph will not let him down until his 'lesson' is learned.
"Sokka, the Avatar"

While visiting a village, Sokka pretends to be the Avatar in order to impress a girl. The girl exclaims to her fellow villagers that she has met the Avatar, and soon, the village is aware of the Avatar's presence. But later, the Rough Rhinos arrive, seeking to capture the Avatar. Aang, Katara and Toph's bending quickly defeat the Rough Rhinos, and Sokka is quick to take credit for the victory. His "skills" impress the girl even more. The comic ends with Katara, Toph, and Aang angry and ready to expose Sokka as a fraud, by attacking him with bending.
"Dirty Is Only Skin Deep"

Sometime during their journey, Team Avatar decides to lounge in a secluded Earth Kingdom lagoon. While there, Katara, Sokka and Aang use the opportunity to bathe themselves and wash their soiled clothes, though Toph simply sings melodies about badgermoles, refusing to wash herself. Katara urges Toph to join the rest of them relax in the water, but Toph declines the offer, stating that a healthy coating of earth is beneficial for any earthbender. Leaving her no choice, Katara waterbends, suspending Toph in the air before placing her in the water to soak. Toph panics, exclaiming that she was not proficient in swimming, and that she was drowning. Katara splits the water to allow Toph to feel solid ground. Toph wriggles in the mud, soiling everybody's clean attire, much to Katara's dissatisfaction.
"Divided We Fall"

Team Avatar is separated on their journey to Hiroku Canyon when they meet several orphans.
"Reach for the Toph"

A training session occurs between the members of Team Avatar. Aang, Katara, and Sokka train against Toph, but, in the end, Toph wins.
"It's Only Natural"

After the fall of Ba Sing Se, Team Avatar (with Aang in a coma), Earth King Kuei and Bosco are camping out in the woods. Sokka, starting to get annoyed with how spoiled Bosco is, tries to teach the bear how to survive in the woods like a bear. After many failed attempts at collecting honey, fishing, and finding shelter, Earth King Kuei decides for him and the bear to set off on an adventure in disguise so he may learn some things about the world.
"Going Home Again"

After Ba Sing Se's fall, Princess Azula decides to return home to the Fire Nation with Prince Zuko and their imprisoned Uncle Iroh. Zuko, however, refuses. Azula and Ty Lee form a plan to convince him to leave with them.
"The Bridge"

Katara writes in her diary, detailing the events that happened to her and the gang after the fall of Ba Sing Se and Earth Kingdom.
Book Three: Fire

In order to get inside information on the Fire Nation, Sokka decides to join the Fire Nation Army, adopting his Wang Fire persona. Upon learning that new recruits were to be shipped to the front line, he runs back to the cave where Aang and the rest are hiding, pursued by soldiers. Ultimately, Katara, Sokka, and Aang make it sound like a fight is going on in the cave, while Toph bends a hole so they can escape on Appa. The cave caves in, and the soldiers mourn "Wang Fire", whom they believe is dead.
"Night Animals"

Momo wakes Appa to go on a midnight mango run only to be discovered by two Fire Nation soldiers. Appa and Momo scare away the two and feast on the bounty they collected. The next morning Team Avatar starts eating the left-overs that Appa and Momo left, and thanks a bewildered Sokka for collecting them. Sokka then scolds the pair for still being asleep.
"Boys' Day Out"

Toph and Katara, disguised as boys, sneak into a rowdy Fire Nation bar in an attempt to prove Katara's toughness to Toph. Things get out of hand, however, when Katara starts picking fights with other people, and Toph has to drag her out of the bar.
"Ember Island Arcade"

"Monster Slayer"

Trying to win money for dinner, Sokka agrees to "slay" Appa, whom the local villagers think is a monster; however, he ends up confronting a giant armadillo bear instead. Fleeing to cower in fear, it is Appa who saves the day and wins the goodies in the end.
"Combustion Man on a Train"

Aang and Sokka agree to accompany young Sho on a train ride to her Grandma's house. They get more than what they bargained for, however, when the deadly assassin known as Combustion Man shows up. As Sokka heads to the engine to stop the train, Aang instructs Sho to breathe calmly while he confronts the hitman atop the train. Having washed Combustion Man away, Aang whistles for Appa to take Sho to her destination.
"Swordbending"

While Team Avatar is hiding in the Western Air Temple, Sokka challenges Zuko to a "Swordbending Kai", a term Sokka made to refer to a swordfight, or (in this case) a sword sparring session. In their sparring session, Sokka is repeatedly humiliated by losing to Zuko. Sokka is sick of it, and pulls out and throws his boomerang. Zuko dodges, but the boomerang comes back and hits him hard in the head. Aang declares Zuko the winner of the last round (as Sokka cheated by using his boomerang). This does not matter to Sokka, who says "I may have lost the battle of swords... but I won the battle of words."
"No Benders Allowed"

At the Western Air Temple, the benders of Team Avatar and Haru leave Sokka, Teo, and The Duke behind to do some household chores, while they go practice their bending. Feeling excluded, Sokka comes up with a new club, the "Bendless Boomerang Club", founded specifically to exclude benders, since only non-benders can join.
"Love Is a Battlefield"

At the Western Air Temple, Aang wishes to speak to Katara about the kiss the two shared during the Day of Black Sun, but she is hesitant.
"Dragon Days"

Aang tells Zuko of his adventures with Kuzon searching for dragons one hundred years before the events of the series, when the duo saved a dragon egg from poachers.
"Game Time"

Team Avatar tries to pass the time when Sokka suggests playing hide-and-seek, to which Zuko says he hates games. Sokka dons his detective uniform as the gang run to find a hiding location. Sokka tricks Momo out of his hiding spot with a melon and adds him to the search party. Then starts using Momo to find the rest of the team. Zuko ambushes Sokka thinking the game is "hide-and-shriek" then Sokka corrects Zuko, to which Zuko says he hates games. As dusk falls Sokka becomes intrigued as he cannot find Toph. Sokka stands on a rock pondering his situation when Toph shatters the boulder beneath him and cries out, "I can't stand it any longer! Sorry... But you really need to clean those feet of yours... they stink!"
"Bumi vs. Toph, Round One"

In the Order of the White Lotus camp, Bumi and Toph have an earthbending duel to decide the "Greatest earthbender of all time". While fighting with Sokka as referee, the order and Zuko hear destructive sounds and assume it is an attack. They see the duel and stop it by saying that their objective whilst they were at the camp was to stay hidden from the Fire Nation.
The Promise Trilogy

A tale of a world learning the ways of peace after a century of war. It is a difficult lesson, one that will threaten to tear the friendship of Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko apart, and plunge the world back into war.
The Promise Part 2

Zuko attempts to use the knowledge he gained while speaking with Ozai in the first novel of the trilogy. Aang tries to prevent a looming war while Sokka attempts to deal with his "oogies".
The Promise Part 3

The Harmony Restoration Movement fails to bring peace, and the four nations are plunged back into war. Aang has to somehow mend the rift between himself and Zuko during the midst of the battle, or risk being pressured into killing the apparently renegade Zuko. The fate of Yu Dao and the Fire Nation colonies hangs in the balance.
The Search Trilogy

The Search trilogy is an upcoming set of comics that will explore the fate of Ursa, Zuko and Azula's mother. It will also reveal what effect imprisonment in a Fire Nation mental institution had on Azula.
Non-canonical stories
New Recruits

The gang goes to a local Earth Kingdom tavern in search for some new recruits and allies to join them in their fight against the Fire Nation. While there, their contact, Old Man Yahshi, introduces the gang to four unique benders:
- Analay, the shadowbender.
- Hiroshi, an earthbender with a special tunneling attack. He has a stone dragon named Genji.
- Visola, a waterbender and weapons specialist. She surfs on an artificial wave ring.
- Riley, the cookie dough bender.
The group discusses whether to accept these new members, only to see the four kids leave to form their own gang.

- The characters in this comic were winners of a Nick Magazine contest in which readers designed their own Avatar characters.
- This comic is not considered canon as it was listed under the "Bonus stories" section of Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Lost Adventures.
Gym Time

In this super-deformed short, the members of Team Avatar (Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Suki, and Zuko) along with Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, Haru, and Jet are in gym class, with their teacher, Avatar Kyoshi. Their teacher then announces that they will be playing dodgeball, and that they need to make teams. Aang and Azula are the team captains and they start to choose. Aang picks Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Suki, whilst Azula chose Ty Lee, Haru, and Jet. Then there were only two people left, Mai and Zuko. Zuko, who wanted to be on Azula's team, used firebending to try to tell her to pick him, but she chose the uncaring Mai instead. Since all the teams were done picking, Zuko asked what he was supposed to do, and to his surprise, Kyoshi said that he was going to be the ball, and hit him in the air with earthbending and pushed him into the game with airbending.
